PCA’LA AT A GLANCE PCA-LA is 350 diverse ~orsche owners. We are young and old, novice and expert, slow and fast. PCA-LA is also a "region" of Porsche Club of America, the largest one marque non-factory club in the world. On a national level, PCA publishes an excellent monthly magazine ("Porsche Panorama") and generally provides a forum for learning. But the club part is local. And what PCA-LA bffers is an opportunity to share the exhilirating (and sometimes frustrating) experience of understanding, maintaining and driving one of the most unique automobiles of all time. ~~~~/~ The April membrship meeting will be held at the South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club, 13445 Mindanao, Marina Del Rey at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 17. For those of you who missed a great meeting, both in the number of people and location, PCA-LA is now meeting at a new time (the THIRD Thursday of the month) and a new place. Once you find Mindanao it’s the last place on the right before you get to Cyrano’s; on the North side of the street, which makes it about 1/4 mile West of Lincoln Blvd. No dinner or food will be available. However, alcoholic beverages, beer and soft drinks will be available at a nominal fee. See you all at the NEW meeting place folks, you gotta see it to believe it~ There is protected private parking for your Porsche also. ~ /~o~;~ ~y~

The first Zbne 8 R&llye of the year is being hosted by PCA-LA. For you rallye freaks this will be a super event, since we will be gone for two days! The rallye is on April 12 & 13 and will originate at Cutright Porsche/Audi at their brand new location on llth. St. & Santa Monica Blvd. in Santa Monica. First car out at i0:01 in the morning. PCA memb ers, $7.00. non-members $9.00. Lunch break Saturday will be in the town of Elsinore, but since the eating establishments there are of doubtful quality, you may want to bring a picnic lunch to munch on the beautiful shores of Lake Elsinore. This will be an overnight event, so you must make your own reservations. It is planned that Saturday night will be spent in Vista, Ca. (near Oceanside) at rallye headquarters which will be located at the Franciscan Inn, 955 So. Santa Fe Ave., Vista (Zip 92083, phone 714-724-9333). Room rates are singles, $12.50, Doubles, $15.50. Sunday, March 2, was the day for our Fourth Annual Concours D’elegance at Santa Anita. This event was the first of four Zone 8 concours to be held during the year. The turnout was outstanding with 36 cars entered in competition. Entrants started arriving about 8:00 with the last one on the grass by 10:30. Judging started at 12.30 and ended about 3.30. Many entrants were present from Orange and Riverside Regions. 20 years of Porsches, from a ’54 Cabriolet to a ’74 Carrera were represented in the street category. There were entries in every street class, with street 911’s being the most popular. All four 356 classes were well represented with the closest competition in the "B" class. There were six entries in the concours category. Trophies sponsored by Bozzani Porsche/Audi went to all first placers, as well as an overall street trophy and overall concours trophy. Judging all the entries were: Vern Covert -Engines; Nick Friesen - interior; Gene Babow (Monterey Parade Concours Chairman) - exterior; Tony Maich - trunk compartment; and John Cesareo - bonus points, Judging concours cars were: Tore Johnson - undercarriage (front); and Don Colwell - ~ndercarriage (rean). Many thanks are in order for these judges and to other helpers such as Carol Edwards and Linda Dusckett for registration and to Dean Goings for points accumulation and time. Thanks also to Dave Anderson and Alan Balch of Santa Anita, they were most cooperative and in turn thanked us for our cooperation in having a smooth running event and a smooth departure. Hope to see all of you next year or better yet, at the second concours of the series in April with the Orange Coast Region. John Dusckett, Event Chrman.

The fourth annual POC/PCA Challenge Cup Destination Solvang Rally got a very early start from Merlin Olson Porsche/ Audi on February 23rd. A total of 42 PCA/POC cars plus i0 guest cars started out on a course which led North on the San Diego Fwy., off for Odo, Ca. and then into a quick checkpoint. Then back onto Interstate 5 North, with a loop through the Val Verde area and then North again to the old Ridge Route. Another checkpoint, which logged only 19 cars, was located there. Back onto Interstate 5 to Gorman for a short break. A NOTE, which had participants counting MERGING TRAFFIC signs, was not used if you were on-course. After the break, the route continued North into the Fraiser Park area for a DYS checkpoint. Then the route headed West to ~ighway 33 with a leg that contained a phantom car problem ending in a checkpoiht in the Ojai area. From there the course followed Highway 150 to U.S. 101 and then North past Santa Barbara to the San Marcos Pass Road. If the + sign was used, you were oncourse up Painted Cave road; but if the hill sign was used, you were very early into the next checkpoint. From there, the route went back to the San Marcos Pass Road past Lake Cachuma and into Solvang after another checkpoint. Following a 90-minute break, the course picked up West of Solvang and looped back into town going past.another quick check point in the process. The last leg headed back toward Santa Barbara with several timed turns to execute. The last checkpoint was a welcome sight after a 238.61 mile course which 45 cars survived. We wish to thank our sponsor, Merlin Olson Porsche/Audi for their support and all the workers and participants for a great day. Congratulations to Del and Arda Jackson for their win of the Challenge Cup and to PCA members from Orange Coast and Santa Barbara Regions for their excellent times. Bill LeFlang,Event Chrman.

M~BERSHIP MEETING MINUTES - MARCH 1975

The meeting opened at 8.30 P.M. at the Original Bar-B-Que in Los Angeles. President Run Ramage welcomed everyone and JohD L~rson introduced guests in the abmence of Jose Ochoa. To up-date the activities, Rick Putts gave a run-down on the PCA/POC rallye scheduled for Feb. 23 and Bill LeFlang urged everyone participating to get there early. Bill also gave some information on the less expensive motels to stay at during the Seattle Parade. After John Williamson presented trophys for the TRW slalom, Run told about our tour to Las Vegas. It was a great event with perfect weather in spite of a couple of tickets for 65 in a 55. John Larson gave the particulars on Willow Springs March 15 & 16 and warned that it will be cold out there. We also need corner workers, so come prepared. The Datsun "Z" club has been invited to participate on Saturday only. Run announced the Fasching party at the German Phoenix Club this weekend. It celebrates the beginning of Lent with a costume ball were everyone really lets it all hang out: Kurt Sweickhard intro~uced our speaker for the evening, Vern Covert, who talked about his 904 and its restoration. He said that there was a big difference between an original car and a "restored to original" car and there should be some designated allowance for this. He described the variuos parade concours and the different castrophies that can befall a participant such as rain, mud, dust storms, crop spraying, etc.. He talked about the warping and irregularities of the 904 body. Judges inspection techniques were discussed and the little items that can be over looked after slaving on your car for weeks prior to an event. The meeting was adjourned at 10.30 P.M.

A very largely attended meeting was onened March 20th at 8:25 p.m. by President hun Ramage at our new Marina Del Ray clubhouse overlooking the small craft in the harbor. The meeting started with business at hand 8_rid the officers gave rather short reports due to the number of people visiting with one another in the room. John Willlar~son said he is trying to contact Dan Gurney for a technical meeting and asked for members to tell him what they would like to have for f~ture tech meetings. Jose 0ehoa asked for T-shirt orders so he would k~ow what sizes to order. Rick Putts announced the Zone 8, two-day rally, April 12 and 13 and said we would be staying in 0ceanside. Bill Leflang, event ehairms_n for the PCAP0C Rally, presented the trophys for that event; and again, PCA won the Challenge Cup, with honors going to Del and A~da Jackson. John ~!sckett, event chail~ns_n for the Santa Anita Contours, thanked the judges sad all the others who worked to make it a successful event. In a very informal atmosphere, many of the members and guests enjoyed asllde session of the Willow Springs Time Trials provided by John Lateen. This cozy setting was enhanced by our speakers for the evening, two of Vasek Polakls mechanics, Alvin Springer (ala Milt Minter) and Dieter Inze~offer who answered many questions about the turbo Porsehe. After "for sale" items were announced, more slides of Willow were show~ and the meeti~ ended about IU:5~ p.~.~.
