Unless you have a lot of time to

spare, don’t ask me about it, because I can talk for hours. If my slides prove to be decent, I might try to put on a little presentation for one of the upcoming membership meetings. But

AS~ OUR 4105 R~wood He.

don’t hold your breath. Sounds as if we have a neat meeting planned for this month¯ On July 21 we’ll rally to Don Ricardo’s home in Pasadena to ogle some beautiful cars and relax with some good food and drink. See the map for directions and time for the start of the rally. On the 28th, we’ll have the Northridge Malibu Grand Prix all to ourselves for 2½ hours ¯ This event was a big success last year; hope to see lots of you out there. Next month we’re planning to caravan to Monterey for the Pebble Beach Concours and Historic Auto Races at Laguna Seca. As yet we don’t have a starting point, but l’m sure we’ll con someone into providing coffee and doughnuts for us before we leave. See next month’s newsletter for details, It’s good to be home¯

A couple of weeks ago Mac McKee and I drove out to Don Ricardo’s house. We went to plan our July meeting which will take place there. For those of you who have never heard of Don Ricardo, he’s best known for his two greatest interests. The first is music: he was the leader of the NBC orchestra. And the second is cars, primarily Mercedes-Benzo Actually, Don Ricardo is considered to be THE source for information on MB Gullwings. The MB factory even refers Gullwing questions to him. So, one of the reasons our July meeting will take place at his house is so we can see his garage. This may not seem like a big deal to you, but then only Mac and I have seen his garage. If memory serves me well, I believe it housed seven Gullwings, a few Mercedes roadsters, a couple of pre-war Mercedes touring cars, about half a dozen vintage or one-off automobiles, plus a complete shop set up to keep the cars in excellent running and displayable condition. If you’ve been to the Auto Expo at all in the last couple of years, you’ve seen at least one of his cars on display. In addition to his amazing garage, he also has a huge tri-level patio in his backya~d. This patio also just happens to be a perfect place for a party. So that’s what our July .meeting will be. Actually, we’ll start off with a John Wmson designed poker rally -- no skill, experience, or partner necessary -- which will get us all to Don Ricardo’s house. We’ll have plenty of time to see all of his cars, and the possible surprise car or two he’s trying to arrange for us. And then we’ll spend the rest of the day eating and talking. We plan to make full use of the patio with a barbeque. This is going to be a low-key, easy going, strictly fun meeting. It also promises to be the one meeting that no one should miss. David Kozak

To get to Don Ricardo’s, we’ll meet in the parking lot of the Automobile Club in downtown LA, 2601 S. Figueroa (at the corner of Adams and Figueroa). The meeting time is 2 PM. The route to Don’s house is complicated; so don’t be late. John Wmson has planned a fun poker rally to get us there.
