hot dogs 24 The first thin~ that will happen at the August Membership M~eting on Thursday night the 21st will be a HOT DOG BARBEQUE. So, don’t eat in advance. We will start eating at 7~00 PM and the bar will open at 7:00 PM. The business meeting will begin around 8:00. Entertainment for the evening will be XX PORSCHE PARADE REPORT and PHOTOS. Also possibly a film taken at the 2nd Annual Monterey Historic Auto Races at Laguna Seca last weekend. We have a lot to say about the Parade. Many LA Region members did outstanding jobs there. C~ae and see what happened way up in Seattle. The August meeting will be held at the SOUTH COAST CORINTHIAN YACHT CLUB, 1362~5 Mindanao Way, in the Marina Del Rey. Those of you who have never been to a PCA meeting they are fun, free and have very reasonably priced hot dogs.

Yes Virginia, there is a POC. And there is also a LAPD training course on Terminal Island in San. Pedro. Right there where the big white ships drop off the Porsches frnm the fatherland is where the PCA and the POC will have there 3rd annual Challenge Cup Slalom. This year it’s our event and Rick has pr~mlsed not to let more tham-85 cars on the track at one time. No Kidding, this is a fun place to drive your car fast. A track less than a mile long with a whole bunch of right and left turns in it. Straights and esses and nice cool sea breezes, an occasional passing fish boat and stuff like that. PRESIDENTIAL RHETORIC ~^Jell Kiddies, a lot has happened since the last Porscherama was sent out, at least that’s how it seems to me. Those 350 some odd members who didn’t go to Colwell’s WHATEVERYACALLIT Rallye in July missed a fun day. l~aybe your lunch didn’t have sand in it and you weren’t always looking over your shoulder to see who was gonna throw you in. Anyway, we were all safe with Tore around ’cause we all knew that JAWS would go for him first .... I don’t know if anyone has heard from Paul and Carol ~-dwards but I just received my second letter from Ann and Sam ~ang in England. It sounds so typical of a ~uy who owns 3 Porsches and is half way round the world from them..reminds me of my friend comolaining of being trapped in a VW for 2 months with a confessed Porsche chauvanist whilst in Porsche Country. They’ll be back for Riverside on Sept. 13th ........ on Riverside, there will be a RIVERSIDE WORKERS meeting on tuesday night August 19th at 30B Si’~ITI.{ PORSCHE AUDI in Hollywood, 1751 N. Cahuenga getting down to the wire will require some detailed planning .......... For several months this year and a while last year I’ve been telling people at the meetings about the Monterey Auto Races featuring Antique and Classic cars, last weekend Carola and I went, along with Dennis and Louise Jackson (B.Smith service manager), we serviced as cheering section~ pit crew and back slappers for Pete Smith and his red ’56 Speedster in actual wheel to wheel competition of Concours or near that type cars. Laguna Seca was great with about 2500 persons there and 105 cars entered, ranted from 1924 Bugatti to 72 i,]cLaren in exhibition, Cad Allards, XK-i2Os, ~-~G-FD ~pecial, 3 550 Spyders, an Rs-60, an Abarth Carrera, many Ferraris and a whole bunch of fun. Just like an old road race. I’d like this to be a monthly tour event next year. iVe found a motel in Carmel for .~14/n~ght. A great dinner Saturday night with Cece and Nick Friesen returning from the parade and the Pebble Beach Concours os Sun ......

A quick report on the national board meeting at the XX Parade in Seattle. Of most importance is that there is going to be a national dues increase that will become effective on October I, 75. The current dues is $18/year with $5.00 going to regions and the rest going to National. The dues increase will be to a $24 / y~ar with $6.75 returned to regions. This is the same percentage of dues going to the two destinations. The last dues increase was in 1969 from 15 tO 18/year. We all know what’s happened to prices since then and after sitting through a 5 hour board meeting I can very easily see why this increase is necessary. Other topics were very far removed from our region, such as discussion and ultimate reinstatement of a PCA member who was not allowed a membership because of misuse of a PCA card, purchase of a copy machine. Interesting was discussion for other regions. For example, " Chicago Region requires an additional $25./year dues, that a member should attend 4 of every . 6 events and should work 2 of those events. Kind of extreme but there they claim it helps attendance and exclusiveness of region. Also ALL M~2dB~ are active so instead of a really phony figure of non-active, they have (again) ALL MEMB~2{S active. How about that. I was fortunate to attend 2 evenings an~ 1 day of the Parade and there is really nothing else quite like it. The atmosphere of a convention with a HUGE hotel parking lot full of Porsches once again reminds us of what we really enjoy about the car. In 77 the Parade is in San Diego and if LA Region doesn’t have 100 cars participating in that event I really don’t know what it would take. C6me on folks: There must be a reason why you spend that $18 ($24). Come and see what we’re like.
