Old Creek Ranch Winery Fun Run & Lunch
Excerpted Porsche Motorsports Press Release
The weather seemed to think that the weekend of April 22 was not a good time for our fun run and lunch at the Old Creek Winery in Ojai. But the group disagreed, and it was a fine day.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - April 14 - Romain Dumas (France) and Timo Bernhard (Germany) brought their Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 prototype, prepared by Penske Motorsports, to a first place finish overall and class win at Saturday's American Le Mans Series race through the streets of Long Beach.
So at 9:00 am from the Taft High School parking lot, 55 people riding in 29 cars set off for the
Bernhard, who started the car from the front row, ran second to the Franchitti/Herta Acura for the first 30 minutes of the 100-minute event, and turned the car over to Dumas, who took the lead when the Acura pitted for a driver change. The Sascha Maassen (Germany)/Ryan Briscoe (Australia) Penske Porsche RS Spyder was second, and the Andy Wallace (England)/Butch Leitzinger (USA) Dyson Racing Porsche RS Spyder was third. It was the first time the Audi R-10 diesel LMP1 Continued on Page 3.

Long Beach (cont.) has not won an ALMS race that it entered. For Porsche, this was the second one-two overall finish in the American Le Mans Series (the same Dumas/Bernhard combination accomplished the feat at Mid-Ohio last year), and it was the first time any manufacturer has swept the overall podium in ALMS. "How can you top this?" declared Penske Racing President Tim Cindric, who called the strategy on the radio for the winning car.
Bernhard/Dumas Score Overall Victory At Houston ALMS Race. Excerpted Porsche Motorsports Press Release HOUSTON, Texas - April 21, 2007 - Timo Bernhard (Germany) and Romain Dumas (France) held off the late charge of the Herta/Franchitti Acura to score a four-tenths of a second overall victory for the second week in a row, at the Lone Star Grand Prix of Houston - the first time in American Le Mans Series history an LMP2 car has won overall twice in a row.
Dumas took the lead from the McNish/Capello Audi LMP1 car on lap #54 48 minutes into the event - and kept the top position all the way to the end, losing the lead to the team Maassen/Briscoe car just briefly when both cars pitted in the middle of the race. When Bernhard took the wheel, he knew the finish would not be easy.

It takes a lot of folks to make winning races look so effortless. Here are only some of the Penske Porsche RS Spyder crew just before moving to the starting grid. Joe Shubitowski photo.
"The RS Spyder was handling perfectly, and we had an advantage over the Acura with fresh tires, but the last 30 minutes were the hardest of my racing career. We had the lead up to seven seconds with a good re-start after the yellow flag, but I lost half that time in slower traffic, and we had to push hard in the end to hold off the Acura. Tim Cindric kept me informed lap-by-lap on the radio, and I knew exactly where the second-place car was," said Bernhard.
