A Trip To Car Heaven
New Turbo Cabriolet
Or Is It Car Paradise
Introduction Event At Beverly Hills Porsche
Story & Photos By Martin Holford For some, the ownership of a Porsche is the very definition of car heaven. However for six members of the Porsche club this definition needed to be taken a step further. Thus a trip to Pebble Beach, California was conceived and David Altemus, Roger Ignon and Martin Holford set off with their wives for three days in paradise.
On the morning of Sunday September 9th, more than 70 people converged on Beverly Hills Porsche for the introduction of the new Turbo Cabriolet. Starting at 9:00 am and going through Noon, members came from near and far to inspect, ogle and otherwise become familiar with the new offering from Porsche.

N.A.R.W. Tech Session
Day one was spent at the Concorso Italiano where the sense of Italian flair and love of exotic automobiles was on full display.
Turbo Cabriolet Introduction. It looks good from any angle you choose.
Weather-wise, the morning of Saturday September 29th was one of those days that make for population explosions here in our Los Angeles basin. Blue sky, scattered white clouds, not hot, not cold, just right. So conditions were perfect for a chance to learn more about your Porsche in order to keep it at your disposal for sporty drives on days like this one. Along with his wife, Susan, and his son, Marc,
One of the striking cars at the Concorso Italiano was this Siata.
The Old World setting of Beverly Hills Porsche provides a pleasant palette for the rolling Porsche creations. Weather was beautiful for the N.A.R.W. Tech Session on September 29th.
Klaus Holthaus has operated N.A.R.W. — an independent Porsche specialty shop in Reseda for more than 20 years. Before establishing his own facility, Klaus was a factory-trained dealer technician and then worked with Richie Ginther Racing during the “914 as S.C.C.A Production Car Champion” era of the seventies.
Fiats, Ferraris and Fun prevail at the Concorso Italiano. Doesn’t this look like fun. Continued on Page 4.

When you open an email from one of our board members it will look just like this. It is notification of an up-coming event and an invitation to join us. Response, contact info and other pertinent data about the event is included. It’s like suddenly seeing Sophia Loren every time you turn around – stunning beauties everywhere. Continued on Page 4.
Sometimes events grow from concept to reality in a short period of time. When that happens, as with the September 9th Turbo Cab debut at Beverly Hills Porsche, these email notices may be the only way we have of contacting you in time. All the more reason to be sure your email info is up-to-date. Make your updates at www.pca.org.

Turbo Cab Intro (cont.)
Car Heaven (cont.)
Once upon a time . . . A brace of Ferraris perched on the hill at Concorso Italiano.
Day two was spent at the Monterey Historic Races at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Here some of the worlds finest drivers and racing cars were not only on display but seen and heard on the race track.

The Beverly Hills Porsche facility provides a lovely backdrop combining Old World architecture with the high-tech machinery that resides inside (hopefully for not too long) . They also were excellent hosts for the event and provided fine refreshments in the form of food and drink appropriate for a lovely Sunday morning in the big city.
Day Three was perhaps the cherry on the top of three wonderful days. There on hole 18 of the world famous Pebble Beach golf course were some of the most spectacular cars to be seen anywhere.
Thrilling !!
No detail was left uninspected.
Indianapolis Roadsters line up on the grid in preparation for their race.
These are the kinds of cars perhaps one most associates with Pebble Beach. Very pretty.
Participation in the driving portion of the Pebble Beach Concours weighs heavily in the judging. Emerson Fittipaldi, Bobby Rahal, Vic Elford, Derek Bell, Johnny Rutherford, Al Unser and Bobby Unser signing autographs at Laguna Seca.
Beverly Hills Porsche made everyone feel welcome and provided some fine food.
A good sized crowd infiltrated all open areas of Beverly Hills Porsche during the Turbo Cab intro. A “fully-skirted” Speedster at Laguna Seca.
The obligatory “Coastal Shot.” California is a beautiful place. The Monterey coast is fine evidence of that.
In addition to the cars and of course the glorious California weather, the team enjoyed the usual Porsche camaraderie along with the odd glass of wine or two.
356s were well-represented at the Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca.
The cars are nothing without the people.
A GT3 RS was also on display during the Turbo Cab introduction at Beverly Hills Porsche. If you were driving something else, would you want to see this behind you?

Recent News
Few people possess the experience and expertise regarding the technical aspects of Porsche cars both past and present. That’s a very abbreviated synopsis of Klaus’s experience. Let’s just say Klaus is a very qualified Porsche technician. He’s also very good at making things understandable.
New Porsche Cayenne GTS Debuts at the IAA in Frankfurt
So it was a real treat to have virtually unlimited access to this wealth of knowledge and advise for a couple of hours on this beautiful Southern California Saturday morning.
Cayenne SUV Gets Sports Car Upgrades From PCNA ATLANTA, SEPTEMBER 7, 2007 - Porsche underlines the real sporty edge of its successful Cayenne series with the addition of a new model which was unveiled at the Frankfurt International Auto Show in mid September. The Cayenne GTS boasts a specially developed chassis with permanent all-wheel drive, a V8 engine that offers a sizeable increase in horsepower and for the first time in North America will be available with a six-speed manual transmission.
Klaus and his son Marc (arms folded) enlightened all attendees regarding all matters Porsche.
The new Cayenne GTS.
Klaus Holthaus addressing the group during the Tech Session on September 29th.
For more than two hours Klaus fielded questions ranging from rudimentary to extremely complex. After exhausting the bulk of the questions, Klaus’s son, Marc, hooked up one the cars to the laptop diagnostic equipment that they use at N.A.R.W. This was very interesting and informative — a complete demonstration of the wealth of diagnostic data available from within the deepest digital confines of the newer cars. There were between 35 and 40 people in attendance and everyone was glad they came and learned a great deal. One helpful hint regarding valve adjustment on 911 engines that Klaus mentioned was to not remove the spark plugs while adjusting the exhaust valve lash, even though it makes rotating the engine more difficult. The reason for this is that sometimes when removing the spark plugs a small piece of carbon or anything can drop off the end of the plug and become lodged in a place between the valve seat and a partially- open valve. If this were to occur, you would be adjusting the clearance on a not fully closed exhaust valve, creating a very non-optimum situation upon start up. And that was just one thing we all learned that day. Thanks very much to Klaus.
With its lowered body, the new Cayenne GTS reveals a distinctive front and rear look combined with striking wheel-arch extensions that provide plenty of space for the standard 21-inch alloy rims with 295/35 R21 tires. Redesigned front and rear seats reflect the sportier personality of the new model. Two new paint finishes will be introduced with the Cayenne GTS: Nordic Gold Metallic and GTS Red.

Production models will include those marketed by Porsche as distinct models. For example, in the early-nineties 911 (964) line, the C4, C2 and Turbo will each be represented. Vehicles chosen to represent the different models will include a variety of body styles (Cabriolet, Targa, Coupe). The PCA Rennsport committee will make the final vehicle selections. Please contact the display chairman, Steve Gaglione nine.fourteen@verizon.net or 813 978-3433 for an application if you are interested in participating in this unique display. In the United States and Canada the Cayenne GTS will come with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an electronically controlled damping system and complete with air suspension as standard. The 2009 Cayenne GTS is scheduled to make its North American debut in March of 2008 at a U.S. price of $69,300.
