Stanley Gold Collection . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1
On Saturday March 22 this year, we had a rare opportunity to view the Porsche collection of LA Region member Stanley Gold. In the time left between being the President of a large investment company and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for USC, Stanley Gold has long been an avid and active Porschephile. We were greeted by our gracious and enthusiastic host in front of what at first appears to be a relatively normal three car garage, where the LA portion of his Porsche stable live an active, wellexercised and well cared-for life. Normal, that is, except for the white 908 poised on the brick access area in front of the tastefully and beautifully constructed building. Soon we learn more

about the cars here and the facility that houses them. Within this dream garage are ten Porsches of various origins, each ready to drive, as confirmed by the demonstration start-up of the 908 for our listening and fantasizing pleasure. The custom-built “car house” (garage seems a woefully inadequate word to describe this place) features a full kitchen, an upstairs loft area, and an underground pit for performing regular under-the-car maintenance tasks.

The event was made even more special by the presence of Jack & Ginny Case, who are among the actual founders of our region of the Porsche Club of America. They live in the San Diego area now and we want to thank them for attending. Thanks also to Stanley Gold for his very cordial hospitality and knowledgeable, good-natured commentary on the cars and their home. On the 16th of February, we held a Tech Session at The Auto Gallery. Their new building was not quite completely finished, but the new look is great and by now should be completely ready. The photos here are by Martin Holford.

We were greeted by the 908 peacefully displayed in front of the “car house.”
The tour continues. The space is light, airy and substantial, surrounded by memorabilia, photos, posters and trophies. The 908 goes in that open space.
The start-up sequence begins ... Everything is very clean and orderly. And I don’t think they had to clean up for our arrival.
The front of the 356 Carrera, 4-cam. Very nice.
Even nicer. The 4-cam Carrera engine of the 356.
... and then is complete as the tranquility is shattered when the 908 bursts to life, under the direction of Stanley Gold in the cockpit.
You can see the underground pit beneath the 959.
This is a special-bodied 356. Very rare. 356 chassis were supplied to the coach builder by Porsche.
We move inside the facility and are introduced to each of the cars and their stories by Mr. Gold.
A view from the loft above. Tile pavers are easy to keep clean and there’s lots of room.
A late 356 Cab in the greatest “Fiesta Ware” color. I believe it’s called “Fjord Green,” but I’m not sure.
