Matthias Müller Takes Wraps Off New Porsche Speedster
PCNA Photo.
From PCNA Stuttgart - September 29, 2010 - Matthias Müller, the new Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, will be unveiling the new Porsche 911 Speedster as well as the
911 Carrera GTS Coupé and Cabriolet models at the Paris Motor Show on Thursday, September 30. An event organised by the Volkswagen Group on the evening before this autumn's leading motor show opens its doors will also see the official handover of responsibilities on the Porsche AG Board of Management. After a successful tenure Michael Macht will symbolically hand the Porsche steering wheel to his successor Matthias Müller. Matthias Müller's assumption of office as Chief Executive Officer coincides with three world debuts. Only the fourth Speedster to have been built in Porsche’s history is a model steeped in purist tradition and reflects the forward-looking nature of the brand, while the new Carrera GTS range with wide body and rearwheel drive underscores all this.

My Journey To Porsche Parade, 2010 By Robert Vincent It has been a goal of mine, over the past few years, to drive Route 66 over a 4th of July week. Finally I get my chance. Porsche Parade 2010 is being held at the Peasant Run Inn this year just outside of Chicago the end of Route 66. Perfect timing. I programmed my GPS to follow the route easily. Who wants to be examining a map in the middle of a trip? There are only a few hundred miles of Route 66 left these days that are continuous for travel. Everything else has disappeared, been paved over or bypassed. The two best areas are Oatman AZ, and Oklahoma.
PCNA Photo.
I started from LA taking the 15 Fwy. to Hwy. 40 then just past Needles I took Hwy. 10 North which was the Old Route 66. Very little traffic, 2lane Hwy. Oatman is an interesting little town with Donkeys as natural residents, and they roam around sometimes on the streets. They just come up to your window, and stick their nose inside. I guess just looking for food. Friendly animals. Continued on Page 4.

Newcomb’s Ranch Drive And Eat By Robert Vincent September 26, 2010. Total success. 22 cars, 35 people. Lots of new and some familiar faces. Excellent weather and exhilarating driving. Photos from Joe Duerr.
Journey To Parade (cont.) Going through the mountains with tight turns, and lined with mine shafts, I know this was definitely an old road. Continuing on the road it lead back to east-bound Hwy. 40. Not too much of a detour.
reaching the end of Route 66. Amazing! 92 degrees, humid, and wind blowing from the south at 20 mph. I’m so thankful to live in LA. The Porsche Parade Peasant Run Inn was an absolutely beautiful, and accommodating destination.
There were street to full race cars, and everything in between racing against the clock. I had to leave Thursday morning so I missed the Tech Sessions. On my way back to LA I took the northern route, cutting through states like Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, and Idaho. Mt. Rushmore is still something to behold. Do you know Oregon has a desert, a salt lake, and Hwy 395 actually begins that far north? Get out there, and drive these wonderful machines. That’s what they’re for.

Spent the night in Tucumcari, NM. Being 4th of July and all, the local newspaper published an article about Route 66 from a very old man’s perspective. He said back around 1915 before Route 66 was completed, Route 66 was made up of dirt roads with no signs. People traveling would stop and get directions from locals, and a lot of navigating was done by landmarks. Imagine that no maps?

It was Monday night when I arrived, so I missed the concours which is the core of the event. I was able to be present for the Auto Cross events.
I continued on Hwy 40 through Texas, and into the town of El Reno, OK, to start Route 66, which pretty much covered the whole state. Lots of old towns scattered across the state just like in old photographs. The fireworks stands are awesome. Beautifully decorated.
Mt. Rushmore. Bob Vincent photo.
Spent the next night in Lebanon, Missouri. I learned that some parts of the state as of 10 years ago, still had a party line telephones. Made it into Chicago about noon the next day,

By Bruce Pollock A new contender in my "over-used, meaningless phrase" competition is "take it to the next level," as in, "We want to take the company to the next level." Upon mild inspection it can be found that this usually means they just want more money and are not sure about how, precisely, to go about obtaining that. Not to be confused with Emeril Legasse "kicking it up a notch," which is usually a good thing. It’s interesting to me that while we live in "the information age," we need be more and more able to discern between actual information, and opinion or casual observation, represented as information. We all have opinions based upon what we’ve seen or experienced. Actual information, however, is that which is absolutely true and verifiable by inspection and disciplined proof — that which scientists refer to as empirical data. As you read and listen out there, take a moment to separate actual information from "the rest." By way of cautionary warning, however, don’t try this while watching any Network News. That’s pretty much all just "the rest." Now you see, THAT is an opinion. In this case, mine.

And another thing. Let's Talk Traffic. More precisely, Traffic Lights. Have you yet experienced what at first glance seems to be a non-functioning (appears to not be lit) red or green traffic light, only to find, as you travel closer, that it is, in fact, red or green. My speculation is that these are Flat-Lens, LED lamps which are discernible from NOWHERE beyond a distance of what appears to be about 5 or 10 feet. Something or someone is at work out there helping to make our environment more dangerous in the guise of the opposite. Another in a long line of newtechnology inventions marketed as better, while all the while just being different. And in this case not only different but worse, and deeply into the “Unsafe-if-not-down-right-Dangerous” category. Further, it is my contention that the lack of public outrage regarding this development has to do with the amount of forward distance upon which the average driver is usually focused. That is to say, most are not perceiving upcoming lights (or much of anything else) far enough in advance of their arrival on the scene anyway, so do not notice any change from before with these lights. OK - that’s what I have to say about that.

Now for some Porsche stuff. Thanks to a tip from Jeff Peck, I recently have read in Autoweek & AutoSport that there are what might be regarded as rumors about Porsche involving itself in the Formula One, Grand Prix arena as soon as the 2013 season. Engines will be entirely new for 2013, and what I’ve read suggests that Porsche might most likely participate as an engine supplier as they did in 1984-86 with McLaren and TAG. If you read the first part of this, you should know that this is neither empirical data nor opinion. It’s unverified speculation. It is fun, though. Eh? See you next time.
