l3: Lunch, Learn, Lead 04.26.12 Ignite Leadership Network of Portage County members attended, Lunch, Learn, Lead (L3), on April 26 with featured speaker, Brant Bergeron of Ministry Health Care. Brant dedicated his presentation to his ‘Thoughts on Leadership’. Attendees were asked to define characteristics of leaders while also considering which characteristics people dislike about leaders. He emphasized the importance of listening in a world that is full of distractions. Recognizing the importance of listening, and taking the time to truly listen, is a quality of great leader. Brant recommended three books to the group
as well. The first being “Good to Great” by Jim Collins, discussing credibility—Initial credibility (what do I bring to the table), derived credibility (what credibility have I earned) and terminal credibility (what credibility do I have when I leave an organization, friendship, family or business). His other recommendations included “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch and “Drive” by Daniel H. Pink. Brant encouraged the group with stories of others’ success in our area, many whose projects started over a cup of coffee and a conversation, and using their passion and leadership to create something for generations
to build upon. L3: Lunch, Learn, Lead is a program of the Ignite Leadership Network of Portage County. Luncheons are held every other month with various speakers at various locations. For more information on L3, or other Ignite programming, contact Sarah at fdn@portagecountybiz.com \\\\\
