The theme for this year’s event is “Technology and Automation”. The event begins at noon with a picnic lunch featuring grilled hamburgers, brats, potato salad, calico beans, dessert and more. During lunch we will hear from Jeremie Pavelski, co-chair of the Groundwater Task Force. Jeremie’s presentation is entitled “Agriculture Water Use - The Facts: Where we were, Where we are, and the Technological Revolution”. Agriculture is a key component in our economy when it comes to jobs, services, and community support. Wisconsin Growers are using some of the latest technology to help ensure water stewardship. Jeremie will deliver a brief overview of the technology that was used in the past, is used now and emerging technologies on the horizon. He will interact with attendees and test our knowledge on agriculture and water. After lunch, we will head to an irrigated field in Plover where Paul Roberts, owner of Roberts Irrigation will lead the group. In the early days at Roberts Irrigation the normal irrigation pipeline was made of steel, they were heavy, and they were carried from place to place in the field. Simple “big gun” sprinklers were used to irrigate large areas and required a tremendous amount of hand labor. Technology and high tech were not words in anyone’s vocabulary.

Since the beginning of the company in 1957, the state of water application devices has changed dramatically. Attendees at our Ag Tour event will see first-hand how farms truly are high-tech and how that has allowed farms to produce more food with less resources, in particular water. We will see a complete install, discuss the water saving technologies that are employed and view a variety of major new advancements. Then it’s off to Groshek Farms in Amherst Junction, operated by the Groshek Family -- Henry (Father), Wayne, Casey and Delroy (Sons) and Keith (Grandson) to experience for yourself the care taken in robotic milking of cows and the barn setup. Managing a farm with milking robots requires a different approach compared to conventional milking. Attendees will tour the farm and experience the process of robotic milking and what it involves in terms of farm management. The event includes tours, bus transportation, a picnic lunch, socializing and education. Registration is now open. Register soon as space is limited.

AGENDA Noon:

Picnic lunch and guest speaker Jeremie Pavelski at WPS Corporation 1:30 pm: Arrive at Irrigated Field in Plover 3:15 pm: Arrive at Groshek Farms 5:00 pm: Return to WPS Corporation Cost is only $20 person. For questions contact Karen Schanock at 715344-1940 or kschanoc@portagecountybiz.com.

What they have to say \\ The Humane Society of Portage County (HSPC) is having a very exciting year! We have hired a full-time Veterinarian – Kim Peacock. Having a fulltime veterinarian provides us with the means to expand our medical services for our sheltered animals and the possibility of helping low income families. Thanks to initiatives by Doctor Kim, we now have an intake room that helps to ensure strayed, abandoned, or surrendered animals are receiving the proper medical attention before joining our other sheltered residents. Presently, we are working on plans for an animal play yard that will be used to expand the socialization experience for our dogs. We are also excited about the new life our website and Facebook page have taken. And, our newsletter is now presented to our supporters in color. Our volunteers and supporters have been a major part in the success of our recent events which include the Top Dog – Mayoral Canine Campaign, Walk for Wags, Golf Outing, and our recent rummage sale. We are now gearing up for Fur Ball which is our annual family fun night that features the largest basket raffle in Portage County with a great selection of silent auction items.

Whatever the case, let us make it as stress-free as possible for you. Most cases are settled out of court, but if a trial is necessary we are experienced – and prepared. We will take the time to really listen to you, provide an honest assessment of your case, give you an overview of the legal process, make recommendations, and guide you each step of the way. We’ll also connect you with additional resources and news, answer your questions and keep you connected. Our attorneys specialize in a variety of areas, including family law, wills and trusts, business law, probate, criminal defense and bankruptcy. Free consultations are available.

The heart and soul of all these efforts is for the animals we serve. Hundreds of dogs and cats come to us each year needing our help and the support of our community members. One benefit for our Humane Society to renew our PCBC membership on an annual basis is the opportunity for us to stay in touch with the many community members who share our mission to protect the animals we serve. We see that businesses and organizations are united through the PCBC’s mission to provide area information, assist with workforce development, and support members. Three words that best describe the PCBC: Professionalism, Service, and Dedication.
