For Parents of Adolescents Who is the (Teen) Stranger in My House? Utilizing Tools to Navigate the Teen Phase
Your child as a teen can seem like a stranger you hardly recognize…your world is probably being rocked by more than loud music. What is going on inside that head? And how are you responding? Exercises and activities will help you understand how to get the parenting results you want. What parents say: “This helped me remember what it was like…and to see from their viewpoint…I can support them more than just loving them.” WHO IS THE STRANGER - 440108W SATURDAYS 9:00-11:00AM 4/19 & 4/26 CEC/123 $35 / PERSON RIRIE-KURZ

Adult Soul Collage
Personal Exploration Through Imagery
You can learn more about yourself, your motivations and inspirations through SoulCollage®. SoulCollage® is a creative process of making beautiful collaged cards from images you are drawn to. The cards are then used to gain self-knowledge and insight. Each card has a personal meaning to the creator that represents part of their life. This self-exploration may lend opportunity to access a range of feelings and emotions. There are 4 different types of card suits that will be explored. These include aspects of your inner self; people; pets and wisdom figures that have been important in your life; companion animal energies for each of the energy centers known as chakras; and the archetypal energies. The first class will introduce you to the SoulCollage® process and the four types of cards. You will make at least one card per class. This new technique is taught by a trained facilitator. No art experience necessary. All supplies are provided. www.SoulCollage.com See page 19 for one night sampler classes.

All Squared Away, L.L.C. is offering a threehour ACT Preparation Workshop to help high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors prepare to confidently take the ACT. This is done by explaining the format of the test, sharing the types of questions to expect for each section of the test, teaching general and specific test-taking strategies, giving tips for pacing during the test, explaining the rubric for the Writing Test, as well as administering and correcting mini practice tests. The best way to reduce anxiety and increase confidence is to be familiar with expectations. The requirement of all juniors in MI to take the ACT as part of the Michigan Merit Exam (given in March) makes it essential that students proactively prepare. Students should bring a pencil and calculator. A manual that includes a complete practice test will be provided for in-class and home use. Young Rembrandts After School
Our elementary learners are at the crucial time of development when they decide whether they’re good at something or not. This decision will affect not only the rest of their academic career, but their lifetime learning as well. The Young Rembrandts elementary program provides the tools this agegroup needs to succeed at drawing - a teaching tool from which the majority of learners prefer and ALL learners benefit! Our program works because it’s not only hands-on and visual...it’s simply fun. Add to this our innovative guided instruction, topics that kids love and relate to, and instructors that know how to reach this group; we take kids from thinking they’re not ‘artists’ to knowing they can achieve this, and everything else, they put their minds to. Portage Aquatic Club was developed for age group swimmers who wish to cultivate their swimming ability. The program runs nearly yearround (mid- September through mid-March and mid-April through early August). The program is open to swimmers age 6 and older who can swim the length of the pool. (Swimmers new to PAC need to meet with a coach to determine placement. Previous swimmers that are unsure of placement, contact Coach Parker at parkertyk@gmail.com). See group description for tryout dates and times. This is not a “learn-to-swim” program. PAC offers “open enrollment” and fees can be paid on a monthly basis, due in advance, on or before the 10th of each month. A $10 late fee will be assessed for payments received after that date. You have the option to pay for the entire season and receive 10% discount. There is also a small discount for multiple children enrolled. Participants are encouraged to swim the maximum number of practices offered. There will be no prorating of monthly membership fees if your swimmer chooses to swim fewer days or start in the middle of a billing period. USA membership is required. Fee is $59 annually, payable to Portage Swimming. USA Swimming offers, as a benefit of membership, insurance coverage to its members and member clubs to include General Liability and Excess Accident Medical coverage. USA meet fees vary by meet. *You can find more information about PAC on their website: www.portageaquaticclub.com *Tryouts - April 14-16 from 5:00-6:00pm at West Middle School *Season begins April 14 and ends June 6
