Content A selection of projects during my studies of Product Development are shown on the next pages. I learned a lot during the past five years. Not only did I learn to acquire a lot of new skills, I also learned a lot about myself and working with others through designing. I have grown as a product designer but there is always space to improve, learn more and be curious. So I am excited to grow more in known areas and eager to explore new, more diverse and unexplored areas.

PROBLEM STATEMENT Starting from two worldwide problems food waste and famine, I searched for an area in the food supply chain to make a difference. The main focus during this whole year was to reduce and valorize food residual waste streams. The United Nations evolved in 2015 several Sustainable Development Goals. They subscribed in the SDG 12.3 that food waste coming from retailers needed to be reduced by 50% by 2030. So I reached out to a large retail company in Belgium, named Golruyt Group,
SUR+ | ERGONOMIC WORKSTATION
to get to know more about their food waste. They do want to upgrade more of their food waste but are encountering several obstacles. Thorough and in-depth research has led me to Foodsavers, which are food surplus distribution platforms active in Flanders, which enable a circular chain. This organization is active within the social economy where I started to look at how I could support these employees to start sorting the food surpluses by quality for further food processing, in addition to offering food assistance to disadvantaged people.

Master’s thesis sur+ Since the process was very important during this graduation project, I would like to give some more insights about the process. DEEP DIVE AND USER RESEARCH 8 in-depth interviews of different Foodsavers 3 observations at different Foodsavers gave insights in the pain points of the target group to sort and control more food surpluses
3 experts, one supervisor from Foodsavers Antwerp, one of Foodsavers Ghent and a project manager from HERW!N (the collective of social circular entrepreneurs of Flanders), were several times consulted in order to take into account important requirements and remarks

Bachelor’s Project Passport photo machine The goal was to develop a passport photo vending machine. After a thorough analysis I soon came to the conclusion that when the photo is taken while sitting down, there is a lot of space lost. While observing a passport photo machine at a station, a drunk man, who took a seat whitout using it, persuaded me not to implement a seat in my design. Taken the seat away should help prevent vandalism in public spaces.

CONTEXT
CONCEPT
Designed for places where there is a high amount of pedestrian traffic such as supermarkets, railway stations and other half public places such as shopping malls.
Below you can see three concepts where there is the possibility to raise standing children. I chose to integrate this feature so that the passport photo machine could be used by more diverse people. I ergonomically examined the three different steps and finally proceeded with the left model.
TARGET GROUP The model will not be suitable for wheelchair users, as this target group does not easily move (by themselves) in these environments. So I focused on increasing comfort for the 95th percentile of men, while remaining usable for people or children with a height above or equal to 1m35.
Skills User research, Sketching, SolidWorks, Technical elaboration
SHAPE EXPLORATION| BASED ON MOODBOARDS
The entire process will be done standing up, with adults standing in the middle while children less than 1m35 tall will stand on the steps.

interaction design bron Bron is a water dispenser that reminds people to drink enough water on a day. By using lighting and onscreen movements, Bron catches the eye when you pass by it. Thus, the user will be subtly and pleasantly reminded to drink a glass of water. INTERACTION Duration

The interplay between the user and Bron is based on the gesture of pushing an empty glass or bucket into water. This is the downwards movement, after which the water is scooped upwards. If the middle part, the scoop, is filled with water, it is heavier and will therefore rest at the bottom of the model. Once the water starts streaming into the user’s glass, the scoop moves uniformly upwards. This corresponds to the physical laws of buoyancy.
THE GOAL
TECHNICAL COMPONENTS
This project is created for the Design for Interaction course and it is all about human-product interactions. It is about figuring out how people understand, use and experience digital products. The target audience is seniors, so the interaction should be easy to understand and should feel very intuitive.
The following programs were used to achieve our final model. SolidWorks is used to draw the parts of the CAD model. The mechanical movements were enabled by encoding with the Arduino tinker kit. And finally the animation is created in Adobe After Effects, of which an overview is shown by the user scenario, on the next page.
The challenge is to make the product, the mechanical movements in response to physical actions, and the digital projection speak for themselves. The interplay between all these aspects will ensure a usability-friendly product.

When Bron detects a user, standing in front of it, the outer edge will fill up with a color gradient.
04
If the user stands long enough in front of Bron, a droplet falls down on the scoop.
06
The user pushes the scoop down, this way the scoop will fill up with water.
07
When the user releases the scoop, it will float again on the water that is remaining in the reservoir.
08
Lights will indicate that a glass should be held under the model.

Strategic Design vaxsea Vaxsea is developed in response to this wicked problem. It is a tool that leads to different interventions with a focus on awareness, overview and activation of parents and children about vaccination. The tool can be used by important stakeholders, like schools, CLBs, Kind & Gezin, the medical sector and policy makers to start a dialogue among these various stakeholders about vaccinations, while providing different interventions.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
APPROACH
Over the past two decades, old diseases have risen to prominence as a result of reduced vaccination coverage by children due to hesitation and refusal by parents. Since 2019, the World Health Organization has included doubt about vaccination among the top 10 threats to the world’s population.
First, information was gathered by interviewing key stakeholders. These interviews gave us insights from mothers, nurses, anti-vaxxers, policy makers and others. This information was used to identify leverage points where interventions could make a significant difference. Arranging these in a system loop revealed how certain factors influence each other. A visual overview of the research was summarized in a synthesis map and an intervention model. Finally, the game board was developed and played by various stakeholders to get feedback and make improvements.

3D cad model
SolidWorks is a 3D modelling software program to which I had access to through university. Here I recreated an animation character, more specifically the little turtle of the movie Nemo, named Squirt. It was quite a challenge as it is a 3D surfacing model made up of splines It was essential to create smooth transitions between each organic shape. The limits of SolidWorks were tested during this assignment, as the program isn’t made for overly complex surfacing models. As a result, the program closed down quite often with an error message, so a lot of patience was needed for this task, but seeing the result it was definitely worth it. Beside you can see the model rendered via Vizualise, after which I added more details and a suitable environment in Adobe Photoshop.
As an optional subject, I wanted to learn how to work with another drawing program besides SolidWorks. Siemens NX is an expensive and well-equipped drawing program used for some well-known brands. For succeeding this subject, I chose to expand my family of animations. Rendered

This lamp was my first project as a student in product development. The choice was to design a lampshade either for a standing or a hanging lamp. However, I opted for a short floor lamp. The material that was offered for this assignment was veneer wood. It is an ideal material that can create a cosy atmosphere, the main challenge with the material is that wood has veins. So, the direction of the grain determines whether the wood can be bent or not. Above that there are various types of veneer wood, which also affects how bendable the veneer sheet is. The end result was mainly obtained by making prototypes in thick paper, as my drawing skills at that moment were not ideal. Here you can see the final model that gives a warm orange glow. The design is mainly inspired by drop-shaped buildings and the shape of fish.
The challenge of this design was to create binoculars in a given style. I got the Vienna Secession of which Josef Hoffmann was involved in the creation of this movement. The style is shown in a mood board in the right corner. It shows some buildings, in that style or designed by Josef himself. In this way the different characteristics and elements that had to come back in my design were captured. The final design was made in polystyrene foam by using a cutter, a scalpel and scouring sponges with a fine grain. As you can see I am a precise worker.
prototyping | ThermoForming | Party Tray As a team of four students, we were asked to design a party tray for the Uber brand. What exactly can you describe as a party tray? It’s a holder that allows you to carry a few snacks and a drink at the same time with one hand. The (outdated) logo of Uber was incorporated into the design. The production technique of thermoforming was used, where a release angle and depth ratio had to be taken into account. This model was first drawn in SolidWorks, after which a positive mold could be milled from a wooden block. Next, drill holes were made so that the air between the material and the wood could be pulled out. The wooden block was oiled so that the part would eventually come apart more easily.

For the course Design Workshop, I chose to made an alternative on the existing trouser clips. For several years now, wide legged pants have been fashionable according to the clothing industry. However, this also involves some trials while cycling. For example, I have a few friends who have a vintage racing bike and use a hair/ rubber band as a trouser clip. I wanted to tackle the challenge to develop a new trouser clip that is easy to use and has a modern and stylish look.
