NATURE RESPONSE Course Name: Design of a Small House in a Mountainous Region Site: Imaginary Terrain Type: Personal Design Project Instructor: Sun Zhengjun, Associate Professor Completion Time: 2011.06 Duration: 5 Weeks Total Construction Area: 265 ㎥ What I’ve Got from this Project Through practice of this project, I realized that in an architectural design, it was very important to understand and grasp the situations of the base, and I had in-depth knowledge and perceptions of the divisions and arrangements of the basic functions of constructions, organizations and arrangements of the flow lines, the outer skins of the buildings and the pragmatism aesthetic of constructional fields, besides, this practice also accumulated experience for my future studies and practices. Site Conditions The Project Site was set in a virtual steep mountain, the main purpose was to examine students' abilities to use existing terrain conditions to do designs when we faced a terrain with a certain objective constraints. Other conditions: it was located in a rural area with high degree of retention of natural morphology, this area was full of rich natural materials (huge boulders, trees, grass, etc.). PRE-PHASE ANALYSIS The residential design was focused on the correct interpretation of the residential properties. Private houses are centralized locations for people to do daily activities, people use private houses to live, have dinner, entertain guests, work, play, rest and other functions. Although the buildings are relatively small, their versatility make them extremely useful, which can be described as" it's got what it matters". Therefore, it is very important to do reasonable arrangements for different function and streamlined organization.

STEP 4
According to daily routines and activities of our target, firstly I estimated the size of the building, then simulated a rectangular geometr y (aspect ratio close to 3:1);
Put the rectangular into a parameterized virtual environment, and the longitudinal d i re c t i o n of t h e re c t a n g u l a r s h o u l d b e perpendicular to the direction of the virtual terrain. The aim is to make the building body have the performed height changes along the perpendicular direction of contour, while the function of interior space will be divided naturally to avoid artificial compartments, which ensures that we can save earthwork quantity to the greatest degree;
After the size and and orientation were determined, I made sure its position in the virtual terrain. To select a relatively performed height change zone and put the rectangular into the cuboid terrain. Then, the rectangular will intersect with undulating cuboid terrain intersect and form a beautiful meandering line of intersection, and the below ground part that cut by the terrain will be abandoned, along with changes of physical constructions;
Based on the previous three steps, I did necessary changes on the existing building body: 1. I did oblique cutting from south east, which is the best orientation, the purpose is to make the building accept natural sunlight and scener y to the most degree, and the cutting will be the most direct and natural bridge link with the nature; 2. As the main traveling directions of roads that connect the architecture with the external environment against the northeaster part of the building, here must be an excellent view without too much outside interference. That is why I dealt with the northeast side of the building (to set outdoor terrace) to expand the field of view;
FORM GENERATION
STEP 5
STEP 6
STEP 7
As the negative impact of the northwest side of the building that affected by the natural light is the largest, and the entrance of the building can only be set on this side, so the design of northwest side of the building is vital. So I did oblique cutting on the northwest side of the building (tilt direction as shown above) to increase the cross-section (facing the external road) area to absorb the necessary daily lights and block unwanted interfered lights to reduce the interference of lights to our sights; and the roof of the building will be folded to respond positively to the surrounding natural environment actively;
After previous five steps, the outer contour of the building has been determined. We did meticulous division of functions and perfect organizations of streamlines on previous basis, then added the basic structures (doors, windows, balconies, railings, skylights, etc.), and last deal with a certain details;
Finally, based on property of the surrounding environment and the existing natural resources, under the guidance of a certain ba c kg ro u n d k n o w l e d g e of p r a g m a t i s m aesthetic, I chose materials that are widely available, durable, and in accordance with the design theme to do design of the facade: rubble walls, wooden shutters, etc., and in details I chose a variety of materials including glass, steel, paint and so on in details. Rhythm changes produced by wooden shutters can enrich the maroon walls to result in a strong vertical crossed shadow and highlight the heavy sense of ashlar.
DESIGN CONCEPT I chose a middle-aged couple who were pottery designers as my design target of the project, both of them need to complete some of pottery designs in the house except their daily activities, so the appropriate size of the work space is essential. And because of this particular case, the arrangements of their work will be different and the resting time will also be incompatible. Then they need separate rest rooms, so two or more bedrooms are indispensable. As the base was located on the slope, I took advantages of the height changes to dispose indoor and outdoor space to set the shape of the building as rectangular substantially, the long sides of the rectangle formed by top view should be perpendicular to the contour of the terrain and the short side should parallel to the contour lines, so that the body of the building will have height changes along the direction that perpendicular to the contour lines, and functional space will subsequently be divided. So it will save the earthwork to the greatest degree. KEY WORDS mountainous region, natural place, practical aesthetics, green.

When I designed properties and numbers of rooms, I took the needs of the users' life into our consideration. The pottery studio meets requirements of space for pottery design work, in addition, the studio can be used as a bedroom, which is easy for the master to have a rest after working as soon as possible. Also, I supplied a lot of gray space, they mainly provided ample opportunity for masters to interact with the surrounding environment and increase the hierarchies of the facades to result in some visual changes. The upper bending timber form is supposed to respond to the block and the surrounding landscape scenery; at one end, the frontier roof bends along the path, and the gradually narrowed porch is just under the downward roof. The porch shrinks from the entrance to the center of the second slowly until to the stairs.

Circulation Ventilation and Heat Dissipation The house has good insulation: in winter, the hosts can make full use of the potential of pa s s i v e s o l a r h e a te r to have a comfor table indoor temperature; while in summer, the high quality of the lower floor and the huge volume of the upper floor of wooden frame (there are awning blinds on the south-facing windows) c a n e n s u re a c o m f o r t a b l e indoor temperature, which do not need air conditioning or mechanical ventilation. Besides, there are other equipments in the house: solar thermal panels that built for the domestic hot water, rainwater collection systems that set up for toilet flushing and irrigation, green roofs and so on.

Course Name: Design of Indoor Furnishings Exhibition Site: In a Container Type: Personal Design Project Instructor: Wang Ye, Associate Professor Completion Time: 2012.05 Total Construction Area: 32 ㎥ Duration: 3 Weeks What I’ve Got from this Project A complete architectural design process involves not only building function, flow lines, space, scale, structure, environment and other aspects of the design, but also includes the design of construction of interior space. Through this practice, I had a certain understanding and mastery of some of the basis of interior design (such as interior coverings, colors, elements, style, lighting design, ergonomics, psychology of design, etc.) and a more comprehensive understanding of architectural design. site condition I designed a white container (volume 86 meters) which size was length: 13580, width: 2340, height: 2710 into a space exhibition. Any display mode and contents are tolerable, I designed the hollow form (such as: windows, lenticular changes, etc.) on the facades and top of the container, but I could not change its size and shape and material, especially its layout. The key of interior design is to grasp the nature of space, then determine the design theme and style, and finally to support the style that formed by relevant elements and to create a theme atmosphere.

Creative home furnishing products that from South Korea, Taiwan, now are irresistible trends sweeping the world. As a mobile creative home accessories that can reflect the owner's taste better is a finishing touch to create a home furnishing atmosphere. Market prospects of creative furnishing home is no doubt, with the improvements of people's living standards, it can directly induce people to pursue a higher level of interest in life.
RAISE PROBLEMS, ANALYSE PROBLEMS, AND SOLVE PROBLEMS Q 1: What is creative home furnishing ? A 1: Creative home furnishing refers to the household articles that meet the demands of function and appearance, which means their designs should be fashionable and personalized. Q 2: How to resolve conflicts between small interior space of the container itself and the the amount of indoor home furnishing? A 2: Traditionally, people use three-dimensional objects as displaying props to do indoor exhibition, but the space of this project is very limited, it is not unrealistic to use traditional model. In fact, we can take exhibit (indoor home furnishing) itself as a development tool, and we can also choose the twodimensional hand-drawn lines as another way to express the theme. Needless to say, the space usage of two-dimensional hand-painted patterns is zero, and refer to the role for rendering, it is as good as traditional exhibition, therefore, it is the great choice to use hand-drawn graphics as the best tool under the specific circumstances. Q 3: What is the theme of this indoor space exhibition? How to express the theme? A 3: The theme is simple and white. Simple means compact design style and white is the symbol of the pure indoor displaying environment. The interior is white tone, and supplemented with hand-painted black lines as decorations. Black line patterns derives from the established impression of the ordinary to home. These impressions are mainly: warm, cozy, comfortable, simple, friendly, and safe. Hand-painted patterns can be seen everwhere throughout the visit process, on the walls, on the back, on the desktop, on the doors, front sill… they are everywhere. 12

Design background When after80s and 90 are about to become the most consumer groups of home furnishing market, many brands begin to extract the style of Individualism and fuse into home furnishing design. Single style is indeed difficult to meet the needs of modern interior space. Flamboyant young generation pursue comforts and conveniences, but meanwhile they do not give up the design of personalization. They refuse monotonous but are eager to pursue flexible designs, so young people are more fascinated by the design of personalization but integration with the whole space.

Design concept The contents display were set to a modern home and the style should be modern but simple. Three most representative -- living room, dining room and bedroom -- of a residential were the main constituents of container exhibition, and they made a basic tour route (the property of the three rooms gradually become relative privacy from public). Finally, to add product description area and free creation area at both ends of the container to form a complete exhibition space. I try to create a unique three-dimensional space by means of two-dimensional graphics that can create strong atmosphere. Pure white indoor home with black line patterns that are hand-painted, realistic, and full of interests integrate into the home furnishing to create a new atmosphere of interior space, which looks unique among many colorful stylish interior design. key words portable, modernized and simple, two-dimensional hand-painted graphics, pure space

RECORD IN YUNNAN
Course Name: Architectural Surveying and Mapping Site: Heshun Town, Tengchong City, Yunnan Province Studying Object: The Hundred-Year-Old Arch in Heshun Village Type: Teamwork (four people) Duration: 8 Weeks Instructor: Wu Yao, Associate Professor Completion Time: 2012.11 What I’ve Got from this Project The traditional residential buildings are always able to provide a steady stream of inspiration for modern architects, the rich content and profound heritage that accumulated are worth us appreciating and interpreting carefully. The on-the-spot investigation and mapping to the ancient architecture provided us the opportunity to dialogue with the traditional architecture directly. To observe them, record them, think about them and try to derive the accumulation of knowledge and experience were the purpose of our trip to Yunnan. These ancient buildings are seen as referenced background and precedents when architects do modern designs. Without them, modern architectures will lose the reliable supports and comparisons. Tradition has been a kind of transmission in different places and different times, although sometimes in intangible ways. background The arch made of four thick posts and three doors from Ming and Qing dynasty was the object of our study, it is a hundred-year-old arch that embodies the standards of filial piet. Although the arch repaired and reconstructed so many times that it has lost the trace of history, from the perspective of traditional culture, the arch still plays an important role, especially for the town. Without the arch or stories behind it, the town will be eclipsed. The arch is located in the ancient town - Heshun, since a river moved around the village, it was named as "River Shun", then people took meanings of "peace and smooth" and made its name more elegant known as Heshun. It has a population of six thousand. And all the residences are built from east to west along mountains, ascends gradually, and stretches about two or three kilometers. key words traditional culture, ancient arch in old town, survey and mapping, teamwork

the zhengwen of the sculpture engraved in a blue stone Heshun has general characteristics of small towns: traditional architectures and honest local residents, but here actually precipitates with 600 years of histor y and cultures, with traditional houses that go through all the vicissitudes of life. It is known that traditional houses here up to more than 1,000, of which there are more than 100 residential buildings in Qing Dynasty, known as a living fossil of ancient Chinese architecture. Its architectural s t y l e s a re " S a n Fa n g Y i Z h a o B i ( C o u r t y a rd ) " , " S i H e Yu a n ( C o u r t y a rd H o u s e s ) " , "SiHeWuTianJing(Courtyard)", and etc. Here, you can not only enjoy the charm of architecture of Huizhou' s style that is white wall with black tiles, but also can find Western elements.
After entering in Heshun, we were greeted by picturesque scenery: beautiful hills and waters, long weeping willow, full of green. "Far away are

rendezvous Course Name: Design of HOPSCA and Landscape Site: Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province Type: Personal Design Project Instructor: Shi Ming, Associate Professor Completion Time: 2013.07 Duration: 8 Weeks Total Construction Area: 72685 ㎥ What I’ve Got from this Project From study and practice of this subject, I had a deep and clear understanding of design of complex. Of course, the design of high-rise complexes tend to be carried out under the guidance and control of premise and background of urban designs, on this basis, I seek to design a new building that is relatively the most reasonable and most adapted to the environment within the constraints. design purpose The main purpose of this design was to solve the problems of commerce, catering, office and other flow lines and the complex functional relationships among them, besides, I took the safety and reasonable requirements of high-rise architecture and fire evacuation, etc. Into my considerations and did reasonable divisions and organizations of urban space to create a strong business climate and an appropriate environment for human activities.
26
LOCATION 27
SITE STUDY
design concept My design concept is to add a highly integrated architecture to the center of the city and create an open outdoor space for urban residents. The open space should be able to gather people through here and inspire them to enter into the building to do various activities around the building. Its open nature is not only on the performance of broad-scale, but also the wide range that the public can participate in.
The base is located in former site of Deji Plaza â…Ą , Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, the west and north sides of the base adjacent to the main roads of the city, while the south side is opposite to Deji Plaza â… , and the east side is close to the roads of the city and a public parking. That is why the base has a so strong business climate to have regional advantages. However, it lacks some open spaces to attract people to stop and stay in such a dense high-rise building. People just want to complete their activities as soon as possible and then get out of here.
According to the outer contour lines of the base, we fitted the outlines and shape of the skirt building, which will grow out of the podium. By this time, although the building had its prototype, the correlation between it and the surrounding roads was weak, which needed further ideas.
According to preliminar y analysis of the site, the main part of the building was set in the northeast corner of the site, the shape of the building will have an unified architectural form with the podium, and the height limit is 100m.
STEP 1
STEP STEP 12
We took the constraints that roads to the site and architecture into consideration, according to the grade scale of road and the opposite relationship between road and the building, we will make appropriate concessions of the building, and of course, economic factors and the objective environmental conditions are required to take into account. Old buildings should be protected.
According to local sunshine law, we set aside an appropriate open space for future landscape to the south of the site, which will ease the pressure of a huge crowd on the city also also meet the requirements of the greening rate.
In order to add lively temperament to the surrounding dull skyscrapers, we streamlined the architectural appearance. To conform to the architectural flow, we did oblique cutting on open space that reserved on the south side to add diversity of the layout.
STEP 3
STEP 4
STEP 5
We divided function space of the skirt part of the building (4 layers), from the 2nd layer, it began to give way to set aside open outdoor space, which could create a vibrant commercial atmosphere.
Finally, to add transparent gray glass enclosure to the main part of the building to emphasize its dominant position and create difference from podium, which suggests the different attributes of each construction and enriches the overall shape of the building.
According to the preliminary research and analysis, I started my scrutinies of the architectural form.

THE WAY OF MODESTY Course Name: Design of Sporting and Art Club Site: Bianshan Town, Chongqin City Type: Personal Design Project Instructor: Shi Ming, Associate Professor Completion Time: 2013.11 Duration: 11 Weeks Total Construction Area: 15182 ㎥ site conditions The project site is located in Bishan Sports Park, which is in the extension of Xiuhu Park in Bishan County, Chongqing City. Sports Park is located in the heart of New District, Green Island. And it is near CBD business district and new district government building, Bishan County. With Xiuhu park, Dongyue Park, Dengyun Park surrounded to form a pleasant environment and regional advantages. Opposite the park is an upscale community -Yuhu residential project. Design Purpose The main purpose of this design was to meet people's basic needs of spor ts entertainment and art appreciation and create a building that is suitable for the base. The hall is not a landmark tool to highlight the building but merely a humble building monomer that is harmony with the base. The design project is a supporting facility within the park, which includes a sports hall and a multi-function art hall. What I’ve Got from this Project The study and practice of this subject made me realize that the site has absolute control of the building, before designing a building, in order to understand the venue, we should do in-depth research and analysis on the site. With a clear understanding and grasp of the venue, it is possible to design a building that responses to the objective conditions of the site, which helps to keep the retention of the original site. DESIGN CONCEPT When we do design, we should respect the spirit of the venue. At the same time when we use the natural space to get playing fields, we should not destroy the natural continuation of the landscape as much as possible to make architecture integrated with morphology and topography to reflect the harmony between architecture and nature and make people feel the unique natural space spirits.

project orientation: The project should uphold the concept of ser vicing for the park to create architectural form of leisure, entertainment, sport as a whole and reflect the higher, slow pleasures of life.
traffic: Bishan County, 35 kilometers from Chongqing City, has convenient transportation, Bishan County is located in the west gate of Chongqing, which is the main drag leading eastern Sichuan, northern Sichuan, Yuxi city to Chongqing.
To use clay model to reproduce terrain, the remarkable plasticity of clay can help designers to use their sensory perceptions to do details of their design gradually. Then to use simple complementary tools to do necessary operations such as cut or fill in the clay model, which make the inspirations and ideas in designers' brains present clearly. Ultimately to create a beautiful architectural form that most fit the mountains.
terrain: Bishan County is located between Jinyun Mountain and Yunwu Mountain, it shaped like a willow, all around it are mountains, outside is high while the middle is low. A groove is between two mountains, and the center of Bishan is hills with an elevation of 270-400 meters. climate: Subtropical climate, warm climate, abundant rainfall, four distinctive seasons, with characteristics of dry spring, hot summer, later autumn and warm winter, long frost-free. The annual average temperature is 18.3 degrees and the average annual rainfall is 1231.2mm.
The firm property of ABS is very beneficial for the second reduction of terrain, the use of cascading mountains and the bottom of vague context can directly reflect the ups and downs of the natural terrain, but also provide convenience for designers to have the feedback of emotion perceptions from venue.
culture landscape: Bishan, historically known as Bayu famous town, has a long history with huge human resources and many cultural relics and historical sites.
[ 皴 ] [cūn] As an impor tant step in Chinese ink landscape painting, we use the method of showing the shades and texture of rocks and mountains by light ink strokes in traditional Chinese landscape painting to perform the undulating surface texture of rocks, which determines the quality of shapes of rocks. MODEL BUILDING Sketch Due to the special requirements of the Museum for lighting, so to place it on the west side of the site. And the smaller volume of art museum than sports hall building is also more in line with the real situation of the site. The sports hall is set in the east side of the site to ensure adequate daily light, to do so makes sports venues is similar to the main entrance of the building, which is convenient to evacuate a large number of passengers. To a certain extent, this setting can have formed divisions of Art Museum on the west side naturally. To make movement and quietness clearly without interference.
Through data analysis, while maintaining the original context of the mountains and valleys, we tr y to find rational space arrangements between the construction and environment.

In the process of deepening design, to make a simple model with existing materials has a positive effect on deepening the right direction of the next program. To make models is a particularly huge work, the reason is that the designers want to have the absolute awareness and grasp of the base.

In the overall process of program design, the links of producing solid models can be broadly divided into two parts: the first par t can be called basic link. We made the skeleton of the main building corrugated paper and wood when we had a macroscopic basis of the base; the second part can be called refinement link. I did necessary refinements on the above basis of the first part, for example, to cap roofs, rich interior architecture structure, add characters and etc.

As the water source of lakes, this area should reflect a sense of dreamy paradise. The building with its unique form of expression reveals sightly in the natural background. Connecting the rugged building materials with elaborate joint design together to make people have superimposed impressions of the past and the future. The building looks like the original cave, but also like a high-tech building from the future 43 to make people unable to understand it totally, as if it is about to disappear in the lake.

SECTION 1-1 1:2000
For people who go into the park for the first time, they can hardly feel the presence of the building, as if they just walk in a mountain road. People may still unware when they find some of the building or even when they already walk in the green roof of the building. Only when people enter into these venues consciously, they can find such a wealth of wonderful interior spaces.
