Inclusion Services for People with Special Needs We advocate and provide inclusion assistance for people who have a disability/special need to receive equal opportunity to fully participate in Portland Parks & Recreation programs offered city wide. HOW IT WORKS After a planning session with the participant, an inclusion assistant will provide support “on-site” at the first ageappropriate class. Further assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to supportively work with the participant and accommodate their individual needs. A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the activity remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed and can be flexible and creative, ensuring the participant engages as independently as possible. A reasonable accommodation would be to lower the instructor-to-student ratio for an activity.

GROUP and DAYCARE GUIDELINES For the safety of your group, counselors and supervisors must be in the water supervising the children at all times. Please follow the group ratios below: • 1 adult per 3 children ages 5 years old and under. • 1 adult per 4 children of mixed ages, over 6 years old and under 6 years old. • 1 adult per 10 children ages 6 and older.

All counselors must sign in at the front desk and be within sight and sound of every child for your entire visit. Lifejackets are available for all non- swimmers.

Thank You!

The City of Portland will make reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities. Please notify us no less than five (5) business days prior to the event by calling your local pool, or the City’s TTY at 503-823-6868, or by the Oregon Relay Service at 1-800-735-2900.

YOU can help maintain TOP WATER QUALITY Do not swim if you have had any intestinal illness, stomach ache or diarrhea in the past five days. Youngsters who are not toilet trained must wear swim diapers (Available for $1). Please take a cleansing shower before swimming. No street shoes are allowed on the pool deck.

Thank you! Register On-Line at www.PortlandParks.org 19
