NON-RESIDENT PRICING The prices listed in this guide are the discounted rates for City of Portland residents. Persons residing outside of the City boundaries are charged an additional 40% because they do not pay taxes that support Portland Parks & Recreation. For those planning on registering for multiple activities, we offer a Non-Resident Discount Pass which takes 25% off the non-resident fee for the activity. Purchase at any community center. REGISTER FEBRUARY 19, 2020 FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR Registrations are taken in person, on a first-come, first-served basis at each program site. There are no guarantees as to which class and which teachers are available. To secure a spot, a $40 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration. The first month’s payment is taken August 1, 2020.

Tier 1 Registration: Current participants and their siblings

If your child is currently a student in the program, you are eligible to register during the Tier 1 registration period at the facility in which you are currently enrolled. Your child’s sibling is also eligible to sign up at this time. A pre-registration date will be announced to current participants by January 2020.

Tier 2 Registration: Transfer families

If your child is a current student in a Portland Parks Preschool program, and you wish to change community center locations, you are eligible to register during the Tier 2 registration period. A pre-registration date will be announced to current participants by January 2020.

Tier 3 Registration: New participants—Opens February 19, 2020 Registration opens to the general public for any remaining available spots.

Phone Registrations

After the close of Tier 3 registration, you may register for any available spots by phone. Registrations should be done with the community center that you would like for your child to participate.

Scholarships and Financial Assistance

Portland Parks & Recreation recognizes that some residents of the City of Portland may require financial assistance to participate in our programming. We believe all preschool age children should have access to educational opportunities in their community. If the cost of Portland Parks Preschool is out of your reach, we encourage you to speak to our staff about scholarship opportunities that may align the price to your family’s budget. Environmental Education Portland Parks & Recreation offers diverse environmental experiences in our city’s parks and natural areas. Classes, guided walks, camps, volunteer opportunities, naturalist training, trail/tree maintenance jobs, and special events focus on the stewardship and connection to our forest, grassland, and water ecosystems throughout the city. From young children to older adults, people of all ages can find active involvement with nature close to home.

Ladybug Walks are perfect for toddlers and preschoolers (and their grown-ups) who want to investigate nature in Portland’s parks! While exploring with a trained environmental educator, participating children borrow a small ladybug backpack containing a few simple tools that make exploring easy and fun! Walks help connect children to plants, creeks, insects, birds, and animals. All walks last about an hour and are geared for children ages 2–6. (But babies and waddlers are welcome too!) This is a drop-in program—no pre-registration necessary. Simply arrive at the meeting spot at 10:00am, rain or shine! Cost is on a sliding scale ($3, $5, or $8 per participating child), no charge for adults—choose what works best for your family!

CITY NATURE EXPLORERS Hands-on Ecology Classes | Grade K–6

Make a Portland park your outdoor classroom! Children (Kindergarten–6th grade) can join the Environmental Education team to learn local ecology through sensory activities, science investigations, games, and exploration. Our trained outdoor educators will immerse your child in experiential learning with lessons that line up with common science units and Next Generation Science Standards. RENTALS AND BIRTHDAY PARTY PACKAGES Our rental spaces are ideal for a wide range of events. For more information call 503-823-1694.

Our drop-in admission fee and pass options provide access to dropin activities during their scheduled times. Amenities include the fitness center, group exercise, water exercise, whirlpool spa, play swims, and open gym times. Swim lessons, camps, and classes are offered at a set fee—no additional admission fee will be charged when participating in these registered activities.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES Occasionally, specific facilities within the center (i.e. spa pool, lap pool, etc.) may be closed or have limited operating hours due to repairs, maintenance, inclement weather, holidays, and/or special events. Such closings will not result in a reduction of pass holders’ rates or drop-in admission fees. When possible, the times and dates of closures will be posted in advance. LOCKER ROOMS AND LOCKERS Lockers are available for day use only. Bring your own lock to secure personal belongings. Use of lockers is at your own risk. Mt. Scott Community Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please leave valuables at home. All patrons are requested to use the locker room for the gender with which they identify. Youth supervised by an adult of a different gender may accompany that adult in to the locker room of the adult's gender. All-user changing rooms are also available. The use of cameras, video recording devices and equipment with digital photography capability is strictly prohibited in locker rooms and public restroom facilities.

20-Visit Passes are a great option for those who plan to work out only once a week. In addition, 20-Visit Passes are a great option for organizations who would like to bring a larger group of visitors (please call ahead). The passes provide unlimited day-use of the facility at a discounted rate. 20-Visit Passes are valid for two years and are transferable between people of the same age group. Pass holders must be present at the time of scan.

Looking for ongoing access to drop-in activities? This is the pass for you! One monthly fee provides unlimited visits to scheduled drop-in programs throughout the facility. For your convenience, Active Passes will auto-renew each month. Simply pay for the first month upon registering and all future monthly payments are deducted directly from your debit or credit card. Participants must be able to swim the length of the pool of each front crawl and back crawl. Receive coaching on strokes such as Butterfly, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle along with dives and turns. End of the session mock swim meet held against other pools. One hour practice

PIRANHA (optional)

Optional after Sea Lion. Must be able to complete Sea Lion skills or equivalent.

DOLPHIN

Must be comfortable in the deep water and able to swim front crawl with side breathing for 25 yards, back crawl for 25 yards, and elementary backstroke for 25 yards.

PARK SHARK

Must be comfortable in the deep water and be able to dive into the pool and swim front crawl for 50 yards, back crawl for 50 yards, breaststroke for 50 yards.

AQUATICS CERTIFICATION TRAININGS SWIM INSTRUCTOR TRAINING Swim instructor training is required for PP&R Swim Instructors. Students successfully completing the training program receive Swim Instructor Certification.

MT. SCOTT COMMUNITY CENTER

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION Students successfully completing the course receive first aid, CPR, and StarGuard certifications. This course is only for lifeguard candidates who will be applying to work at a Portland Parks & Recreation facility. Prerequisites: Must be age 15 or older by first day of class, swim continuous non-stop 300 yards breaststroke or freestyle, feet first surface dive to bottom of pool and retrieve 10 pound brick, tread water 30 seconds with hands on head then move while treading to where you can touch. Bring to Class: Swim suit, towel, paper, pen, notebook, food, water, warm clothes, verification of age, StarGuard textbook and proof of completion of online program. Cost $65: Classes limited to 32 students. For lifeguards with current ARC, NASCO, E&A or YMCA lifeguard certification, and/or current PP&R employees with Swim Instructor/ Water Fitness Instructor certifications. $75 Combo: Total price if registered for Lifeguard Certification and Swim Instructor Training. 56

REGISTRATION Receipt of full payment is required for registration, unless otherwise arranged. Please call if you receive a returned check or declined bank card notice, either of which void registration. RESIDENT / NON-RESIDENT A resident is: • anyone who occupies a permanent residence inside the city limits of Portland. At the discretion of a Community Center Director, proof of home address may be required. Acceptable address verification may include a 1) drivers license, 2) Oregon ID card, 3) property tax statement, 4) utility bill or lease agreement with current home address. • any child living within the school boundaries of the Reynolds and Centennial School Districts who is attending a SUN Community School. Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident surcharge. Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a 40% surcharge. NR surcharges do not apply to drop-in activities. Non-residents who wish to register for PP&R activities may choose one of these options: • Pay the additional 40% NR fee. • Purchase a NR fee discount pass as either an individual or family. The NR discount pass is good for one year and takes 25% off the NR fee for the activity. Inquire about this option at time of registration. These passes are not refundable. One year NR discount pass: individual $65; family $130 A family denotes a couple (married or domestic) or a single parent and their legal dependents living in the same residence. CLASS ENROLLMENT Our classes must meet minimum and maximum enrollment standards. Classes may fill quickly or be canceled due to low enrollment. WITHDRAWAL AND REFUNDS Please notify us at least seven (7) days, unless otherwise specified, before the start of your program so that we can refund or credit your account for the registration fee. Pre-paid materials and admission tickets cannot be refunded. Participants needing to withdraw after the program has begun are offered a prorated credit or refund based upon when the request is made. SCHOLARSHIPS City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships. Contact individual centers for information. This process is to help determine what level of accommodation needed for the participant. • Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs. IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT INCLUSION SERVICES • A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. • Accommodations are made as needed and can be flexible, as well creative. • Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. • Personal care is provided for activities for individuals up to age 12. • For sign language interpreter please call 2 working days prior to the class. • We request at least 5 working days’ notice prior to start of class. If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform staff and we will make reasonable efforts to honor your request. If you see staff taking pictures, and you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know. If you see a photo of yourself or a family member that causes you concern, please notify us. As a courtesy, we will make every reasonable effort to dispose of the image, and will not use it in future publications. We recommend that you check in with your community centers for the latest information about individual registered programs and activities. Some recreation programs may run as conditions and instructor availability allow. Decisions to operate on a specific site basis are made when it is determined that all programs may operate safely. Call the specific PP&R facility for information and opening/closing times.
