VAN EXCURSIONS PDX Center Stage

Portland Center Stage is the largest theater company in Portland & one of the top 20 regional theater companies in the country. PCS “inspires our community by bringing stories to life in unexpected ways” with a mix of contemporary & classic productions. Start the day with a walk on the beach to look for agates at Oceanside, famous as one of the picturesque filming sites for “The Goonies�. Tour the Tillamook Cheese Visitor Center & Blue Heron Cheese Factory & enjoy samples of cheese. Bring money for a delicious lunch with fresh baked bread & homemade soups & salads. Petroglyph Hike, Gorge Discovery Museum

Take an archaeological journey on a Ranger-guided hike in the Horsethief Lake area of Washington's Columbia Hills State Park. View the petroglyphs & pictographs at this National Historic Site, including Tsagagalal, "She Who Watches". Afterwards, we'll have lunch in the Dalles & visit the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center to learn more of the history, flora & fauna, & Native American culture of the Columbia Gorge. Fee includes admissions & guided tours.

Bring money for lunch in the Dalles. Mobility Rating: This trip is not accessible to those using a wheelchair, walker or motorized scooter. Bring extra water. It's recommended that you bring walking sticks, a sun hat, sunscreen, & a windbreaker or rain jacket. The area can be windy & there is no shade. Bring binoculars if you have them. The hike will take about 1.5 hours & cover .75 miles. It is not strenuous, but there are no places to sit, & there are short sections of rough rock & steep grade.

The sanctuary in Tenino, WA has provided rescue for displaced, captive-born wolves, a few coyotes, foxes & wolf-dog hybrids. They promote wolf restoration & educate the public about the value of all wildlife. Tour the outdoor animal living areas & grounds followed by an indoor educational program. Stop at Lattin's Country Cider Mill & Farm for Apple Festival. Bring snacks, water, & a sack lunch or money for late lunch at Apple Fest. Fritters, BBQ, pies & produce will be available for purchase. Fee includes admission. Mobility Rating: This trip is non accessible for people using walkers, wheelchairs & motorized scooters. Dress for weather, trails are gravel & tour is an hour of walking.

VAN EXCURSIONS Lelooska Native American Performance

Set in the fire-lit replica of a Kwa'kwaka'wakw ceremonial house, the living history performance consists of dramatic narration & dance presentations of traditional Northwest Coast ceremonial masks. The performance is designed to give the audience an understanding of Northwest Coast First Nations culture, as well as a feeling of intimate participation in this living history. The Lelooska Museum located in Ariel, WA, houses an immense collection of artifacts from many regions, a replica fur trade store & a gift shop. Fee includes ticket. Moderate. Hike west along the PCT from Lolo Pass towards Lost Lake.

Moderate. A pleasant shaded hike along a clear blue mountain stream, with views of many rapids & waterfalls. There's the possibility of a moderate stream crossing just before lunch.

Moderate. Enjoy ten waterfalls & striking geological formations on this loop hike along the north & south forks of Silver Creek. We'll have lunch at the CCC-built visitor center & rejuvenate by the fireplace.

Difficult. Limit 12. Hike in the Indian Heaven wilderness up to Cultus Lake & then continue to a high viewpoint with views of Mt Adams & Lake Waipiki.
