Sprout is certified ecohealthy by the OEC. Learn more at www.OEConline.org
Why is Sprout Unique? What is a Green Preschool? Sprout Academy is a certified Eco- Healthy school by the Oregon Environmental Council. Our classroom passed a 30-point checklist that evaluated the paint on the walls, the cleaning products we use, the educational materials on the shelves, and more demonstrating that the space meets the OEC’s requirements for certification. The Sprout Academy is a safe place for your child to learn & play. In addition to the physical space being Eco-Healthy, instructors lead by example and teach students the importance of reducing, reusing, repurposing & recycling. We are outdoors as much as possible taking the children through the park to learn how everything is connected and why the environment matters to each of us! We have our own community garden plot as a second classroom in warmer weather. Children learn simple concepts of sustainability and how we can each do our part. You might find your little Sprout teaching you, too!
We did it!
With YOUR help, the Sprout Academy successfully fundraised for our very own Woolly School Organic Garden that is now installed in the preschool courtyard. Each class participates in planting, maintaining, and harvesting the herbs, veggies, & flowers for a number of the pockets (we have 44 total!). What a fabulous educational resource for our students. Learn more about the project & our donors at www.SproutAcademy.wordpress.com. Again, a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who contributed!

INCLUSION SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to fully participate in programs offered citywide.
How it Works
First choose the activity you’d like to do & the PP&R site at which you’d like to do it. Next, register for the class. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity. Once registered, contact Inclusion Services at (503) 823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services, you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member at that number. At the end of the phone intake it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support at the age-appropriate class. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support the participant & accommodate their individual needs. A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids & services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed & can be flexible & creative, ensuring the participant engages as independently as possible. If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (MondayFriday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.

With 3 years of TKD classes at SWCC, I am thrilled with the confidence, focus, grace, discipline and dignity that the class has instilled in my daughter Rowan, age 8. They don’t just focus on TKD but also grades, and how to be a helpful, respectful part of society. Rowan’s favorite part of class is learning her new forms. ~ Cole Budlong

Up to 6 lap lanes will be available at designated times, call 503-823-2840 for a complete schedule of lap lanes available during operating hours. PAC (Portland Aquatic Club): Mon-Fri 4pm-5:30pm PIL: Mon-Fri 7:30pm-9:00pm (Nov. 5-Feb. 8) Jesuit: Mon-Fri 2:45pm-4pm (Nov. 5-Feb. 8) LAP SWIM ETIQUETTE: “Circle Swimming” is necessary when more than two people are in a lane. Lane lines divide lap lanes. Think of the lane as a highway, always stay on the right hand side. Like a highway lap lanes may become crowded, at these times “circle swimming” is a necessity. Lap lanes are designated according to a swimmer’s speed: slow, medium, and fast. Look at the yellow markers at the end of the pool to find your appropriate lane.

We think Southwest Community Center a.k.a “The Gym” is great! This facility and it’s experienced instructors are a blessing for this community. We appreciate the flexibility of scheduling and thoughtfulness of staff with regard to the needs of our particular child. Coach Blaine, Teacher Ellen & the Swim Staff are HEROES!
