M Y
The Sprout Academy is a school-year long educational preschool program at Southwest Community Center. Our teaching philosophy is children learn through play, infused with hands-on lessons of what it means to be green and how we can each do our part. By being role-models & leading by example, Sprout instructors teach students the importance of reducing, reusing, repurposing, and recycling as well as simple concepts of sustainability. Students cumulatively build on the lessons they have learned throughout the year and are well-prepared for their next adventure whether it be moving up into Pre-K, or heading off to Kindergarten!

FPCC SWCC ENV ED
What is a Green Preschool? In spring 2010, the Sprout Academy became certified Eco-Healthy by the Oregon Environmental Council. In addition to our green-focused curriculum, the physical environment where our students learn is a healthy setting for their growing minds and bodies. Sprout teachers, the program manager, and SWCC’s building director worked together to bring the classroom setting up to the OEC’s standards for an Eco-Healthy Child Care. From the paint on the walls to the cleaning products we use to the educational materials on the shelves, Sprout Academy is a safe place for your child to learn and play.

Lap Swim (Lap Pool) We will make every attempt to have 1-2 lap lanes available, at all times, for adult lap swimmers. Up to 6 lap lanes will be available at designated times. Call 503-823-2840 for a complete schedule of lap lanes available during operating hours. PAC (Portland Aquatic Club) M-Th: 4:00-5:30pm F: 4:30-6:00pm Lap Swim Etiquette “Circle Swimming” is necessary when more than two people are in a lane. Lane lines divide lap lanes. Think of the lane as a highway, always stay on the right hand side. Like a highway, lap lanes may become crowded. At these times “circle swimming” is a necessity. Lap lanes are designated according to a swimmer’s speed: slow, medium, and fast. Look at the yellow markers at the end of the pool to find your appropriate lane.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PRESCHOOL AND YOUTH CLASSES Lil Nature Kids
Age 3-5 It's proven—young children need nature! Research supports it: time in nature as a young child with trusted adults increases creativity, focus, coordination, and social development. NEW SENIOR RECREATION SPRING WORKSHOP Location: Multnomah Arts Center 7688 Southwest Capitol Highway | Portland
Remember. Relive. Create. | Age 60+ If you enjoy working with crafts, writing poems, short stories, novels or your memoirs, oral storytelling, singing or playing an instrument, or engaging in another creative medium such as photography, painting, clay, drawing, creative stitchery, scrapbooking, etc., this interactive workshop will provide many ideas for future projects. We will look at pictures, listen to music, see clips of films, TV shows and commercials of the decade, and much more, to get the creative juices flowing. In the process, you will not only journey back through your own life, but you will hear the memories and experiences of others. You will then express your own memories and experiences in the medium of your choice and share it with the class. In addition to having fun reminiscing and sharing in a sense of community, hearing others’ experiences could enhance your own projects and take them to a whole new level of selfexpression. The first workshop will focus on the '60's and will end with a decade-themed party! Thursday $46
