Student Lifestyle The Students’ Union unique blend of activities and lifestyle vents captivates enthusiasts from all walks of life. Sponsors and partners can capitalise on reaching the highly desirable 18-25 youth market who on average will spend £207.10 per week in Portsmouth. Unlike the majority of the British population who in the current climates are saving for a tough times ahead; many students have adopted a ‘spend now, pay later’ attitude research suggests. Students are, almost by definition, highly pricesensitive yet willing to make personal investments and embrace change. This is potentially great news for challenger brands. High levels of social interaction and close quarters of accommodation, coupled with universal social networking, means good and bad brand news travels fast: critical for viral messaging. Today’s students will be tomorrow’s wealthy citizens, opinion leaders and influencers with the average graduate wage starting at £25,000 can your brand afford not to be engaged with the student market?

Student Events Presence at large, well-attended events can be a very effective way of gaining brand exposure. We have several opportunities throughout the year. We have three large open air events annually, starting with the hugely successful Freshers’ Fayre at the start of the academic year which sees a foot flow of around 12,000 students over 2 days. Next is the Re-Freshers Fayre in February and the year closes with the cultural Carnival in May. The Students’ Union commissions up to four formal balls in September, December and May, finishing with the Graduation ball in July, which attracts attendances of over 2,000. Portsmouth Vs Southampton Varsity: Now a regular on the event calendar, this has quickly become the largest varsity in the country, with over 4,000 students involved. Boxing: Our Boxing Club is widely recognised as the best University club in the country. Our shows are major events that attract large crowds of both students and the local community. Athletic Union Awards Dinner: The culmination of the sporting season, this is always well attended by players and decision makers who come together to celebrate the efforts and achievements of the previous year. Student Activities Awards Dinner: All volunteers come together at the end of the academic year, to celebrate their achievements at this black tie dinner.
