Your Port Spring 2022

New General Manager ready for action In August we welcomed Tim Crosdale as our new General Manager, farewelling Wayne Wallis after 13 years. Tim joined Council in 2018, working across development and strategic planning and business operations including HR, marketing, financial management and business development. Tim is a dynamic leader with a natural ability to drive change and innovation and has a passion for improving the liveability and wellbeing of the residents of Port Stephens.

Funding for Fingal Bay landslip site Residents and visitors to Fingal Bay can look forward to repairs to the landslip site at Marine Drive with $1,861,284 funding secured to stabilise the embankment on the site and surrounding area. We know the landslip site has been a significant issue for residents and visitors to Fingal Bay with beach access limited and a temporary one-way road arrangement in place. This funding from the NSW State Government will allow us to start with a detailed design of the repairs and then tender for the works.

On the road to carbon neutrality • To help reach our carbon neutrality goal by 2025, we’re trialling the use of hydrogen fuel in 2 Council owned heavy vehicles. Using a hybrid system that supplements 30% diesel use with hydrogen gas, we’ll reduce our carbon footprint by around 8804kh of CO2 emissions per year per vehicle and reduce our annual fuel costs on these vehicles.

Plans that put people and places first Place Plans start with our community – your values and priorities for your place. Together, we identify the unique local character of a place and the ways our community can shape, enhance or protect these aspects. We put a local filter on all of our Council’s existing strategies to make one easy-to-read, action-oriented plan. Where are we up to? In Medowie, we’re about to go back out for community feedback to develop the draft Medowie Place Plan to report to Council in late October to place on exhibition later this year. The Hinterland Place Plan is in draft form and we look forward to implementing action in 2023. Next year, we’ll draft the Shoal Bay plan and start consultation for the Anna Bay plan. Placemaking in Karuah The Karuah Place Plan was adopted in March this year and since then we’ve been in ‘placemaking’ mode, working closely with the community to roll out 11 projects. Of highlight is the introduction of ‘Karuah Konnect’ – an on-demand bus service that utilises the local Karuah RSL courtesy buses to fill the current transport gap. This project is possible thanks to a $93,560 grant from Transport NSW.
