GUIDE TO BUYING A BODYBOARD Portwest Generally speaking the board should reach up to about your belly button when stood on the floor. If you surf in a variety of conditions it is better to have a bigger board for small waves and a normal-sized board for average waves and smaller board for big waves.

THICKNESS

Thinner boards have less buoyancy and speed, but increased maneuverability. Thicker boards boast bigger volume increasing speed but hindering rail-to-rail riding. Portwest bodyboards use a medium thickness to give a balance of both.

TAIL SHAPE

There are two main tail shapes on the market today, the bat tail and the crescent. The bat tail increases the surface area of the bottom of the board giving it more buoyant, thus more speed. A bat tail is ideally suited for smaller waves or a rider who would like to go fast.

STYLE: BODYBOARD The wide point is theW515 widest part of the board’s template taken fromDESIGN rail to rail. The width and position of the 1 : GEOMETRIC wide point effects the flotation and the maneuverability of the board. The wider the board is, the greater the buoyancy it has, but the more difficult it is to turn. The nose- to -wide point is the distance from the nose to the board’s widest point, and dictates the overall shape and template of the board. The centered wide point on Portwest boards offers a balance between buoyancy and maneuverability.

- MANEUVERABILITY +

The Portwest bodyboard has a 3D core which incorporates both PE/ Dow and PP/ Polypro foams in sandwiches layers giving the benefits of both materials. PE offers flexibility and all round performance in colder waters where PP is stiffer and naturally lighter.

CRESCENT

The steeper the rail angle the more bite you will get, increasing control but reducing drive. The shallower the angle, the faster the board will be but maneuverability will be decreased. The Portwest board has an excellent combination of both. PLACE BARCODE HERE
