commissioned into service through a video conferencing by the defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who said “The rising power of ‘our sea guard’, ICG and Indian shipbuilding industry is a matter of pride for the country.” Terming the oceans as the lifelines of not only India but also global prosperity, the defence Minister stated that “As an emerging maritime power, the prosperity of the nation is dependent on the sea. Clean seas provide economic opportunities for our nation-building. During the commissioning event, Director General of Indian Coast Guard Krishnaswamy Natarajan said
“The new additions to the ICG fleet of vessels would assist the service in remaining vigilant at sea all the time and will also contribute to the country’s fight against COVID-19.” Most about the new vessels The ICCG Sachet is 105-metre longship and displaces around 2,350 tons. It will be propelled by two 9,100 KW diesel engines. It has been designed to attain a maximum speed of 26 knots and has an endurance of 6,000 nautical miles. It can carry a twin-engine helicopter and four high-speed boats and limited pollution response equipment which will help in undertaking oil spill pollution response at sea. What Does Sachet mean? Govt Plans to De-risk Ports, Enhance FDI New Delhi Port Wings News Network he Centre has planned a slew of measures to give a fillip to the shipping industry and encourage private participation, according to a Business Standard report. As part of the process, it plans to dismantle inefficient and burdensome monopolies, encourage the start-up culture, and call for innovation to derisk projects as well as lead to higher foreign direct investment in ports. The vision includes building new ports to cater to trade requirements, develop India as a trans-shipment hub, and lift at least two ports to the world’s top 10 list. Setting up a ‘National Port Authority of India’ for major ports in lieu of the Indian Ports Association — on the lines of NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) and AAI (Airports Authority of India) — for planning, project development, recruitment policies, and procurement, is on the cards. This is to enable local port

administrations to focus solely on operation and maintenance. According to the draft Maritime Vision 2030, the Ministry of Shipping has set up 14 working groups for each thrust area in the sector. Sagarmala was centred on four pillars — port modernisation, port-led industrialisation, port connectivity enhancement, and coastal community development. Experts say this goes beyond port gates, and focuses on efficiency, ease of doing business, enabling and integrating technology, and giving a thrust to allied activities.
