Q: Thanks for taking the time to visit with us. I understand you lost a lot of weight and wanted our readers to hear your story! If you don’t mind tell us a little about how you got to your heaviest and exactly how much you weighed. A: I weighed at least 455lbs at my heaviest. I was weighing myself on a trucker/freight scale used for scrap metal so I might have actually weighed more. In one year without surgery I dropped 215lbs- from 455 down to 240. At that time I was overeating, binging, and eating processed foods. I was a poster child for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and my weight yo yo’d my whole life. Though I had been an athlete my whole life I was unable to maintain my ideal weight. The experience of watching my father beat cancer to die of liver disease served as the catalyst for me to regain control of my health and my life again. I was hugely successful. Q: When did you realize you had to do something about your weight? A: It became readily obvious to me after the death of my father that I was running out of time. I was eventually going to suffer a heart attack, a stroke, or slip into a diabetic coma. I was in a horrible state of denial that was broken only by witnessing my Dad’s deterioration. In the last lucid conversation I had with him on his deathbed I faced the gravity of my own prognosis. After his death I affirmed the vow I made to him and to myself. There is something very convincing about knocking on death’s door. It is a cold, hard sound that reverberates in your bones. Q: When you first started your exercise routine what was that 1st week like? A: It was brutal. I started with walking, body weight exercises, and stretching. I was ready to throw in the towel right away but I stuck with it. At that time I had a completely sedentary lifestyle so exertion was a big deal for me. I kept my focus on the times in my life when I was in excellent shape and imagined feeling that way again.

Q: Tell us a little about the exercise program you used. Where did you find it? A: As I said I have been an athlete my whole life. I played football and wrestled in high school and college plus a short stint in the minor leagues as a semi pro football player. I just drew from my experience of working out back then and created a program that consisted mostly of walking, stretching, bodyweight exercises, cycling on a recumbent bike, swimming (with my clothes on of course), and eventually yoga. As I dropped weight and built up some strength I started weight training again and increased both my overall activity level and my fat burning exercises (stair climbing, recumbent bike, elliptical machine, etc). Q: exercise wise what would you do differently? Any exercises you would add in something earlier or wait a little longer before you started something? A: As I reflect back on that experience the only thing that I would change is my approach to weight training. If I had it to do all over again I would lift heavier so that I could have built a more solid muscle base from the start. I have necessarily changed how I lift now to address this. Q: what about your diet? how did that change? what was the first couple if things you changed? A: The first thing I did was remove processed foods from my diet entirely. I also did a cleanse. I made incremental changes in my diet over time from a kind of Paleo diet, to Pescatarian, to Vegetarian, to Vegan and when I went Raw Vegan the weight just started dropping off of me so quickly I couldn’t even keep up with it. Q: why did you decide to go raw vegan? were you not losing enough weight or was for health reasons? A: My reasons for going raw vegan were twofold: 1. I wanted to accelerate my weight loss; 2. I did research on the healing and transformative power of a high raw, plant based, whole foods diet. It really made sense to me. Living foods are truly amazing. To over simplify what happened I was essentially starving for the better part of my life. My body desperately needed vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, etc. The standard American diet is devoid of any nutritional substance. Q: are you still raw vegan? A: I took that diet as far as I could. I am now on a partly raw, paleo- pescatarian diet which is gluten, soy, and agave free. It is working brilliantly for me. Q: Explain a little bit about exactly what you eat as a raw vegan? A: When I was still on that diet the bulf of my food intake was dark, leafy greens, cruciferous and root vegetables, seed grains, some citrus, beans and legumes, sweet potatoes, avocados and nut butters, and superfoods like spirulina, chlorella, nori, hemp, chia, etc.

K R MA HART N E S I E Q: is there anyone you would like to thank that helped you along the way? A: I would like to thank, above all else, my mother, sister, and my cousin Eric. I would also like to thank my closest friends who have stayed with me including Jane Allen, Arlo Guttman, M Scot Mohler, Ed Simpson, Del Rey, James Tenebrook Madison, Rodger Ruge, Leah Grow, and Steve Gelle to name a few. I am so blessed now to have an amazing team of people that I work with. They are all listed on my website. They are a rare and special breed of people. I am honored to be aligned with them. A very, very special thanks goes out to ALL of my sponsors, especially EON Therapeutics. Were it not for their combined support I simply could not be who I am today. I really have my work cut out for now as a Sponsored Athlete, Spokesperson, and Actor but I am totally committed to it. I am shredding down to 7% body fat and 210lbs so I can compete and to advance my career on all fronts. Finally, I would like to thank the man who has been my greatest inspiration and the reserve of strength from which I have drawn my whole life- my father, Bud Eisenhart. He is and always shall remain, my TRUE NORTH. I miss him so much it sometimes hurts to breathe.
JENNIFER HENNESSEY No Excuses By Ryan Ellison
One of my personal favorite parts of the sport of bodybuilding is the amazing transformations people make in their contest prep. Some spend months, others years on stripping their bodies of fat that for many has been covering their muscles the majority of their lives. Jennifer Hennessey started her transformation in early 2011 after the birth of her second child at 36% body fat>129lbs. Her diet was far from clean mainly consisting of junk food and her exercise regimen was non-existent. Being very self conscious and feeling her overall health was a stake she felt ready to open a new chapter in her life. It wasn’t going to be easy though with a hectic work schedule and being a mother of 2 children it was difficult to find time. Then she remembered that she had bought her husband a P90X DVD for Christmas. She put it in the DVD player and began her fitness journey. Knowing that nutrition was even more important than the exercise itself Jennifer hired a sports nutritionist Dr. Chase Banks, who was key in helping with her transformation. She felt the best way to stay committed and motivated was to compete. Not knowing much about competing or even what class she would compete in. She went online and researched and planned on starting out as a bikini competitor, but really wanted to compete in Figure.
Competition History • April 2, 2011 REAL was her first competition where she placed 3rd in the bikini division, and 5th in figure. She step on stage at 19%bf<114lbs. Dropping 15lbs and 10% body fat in 16 weeks. • August 20, 2011 REAL/Optimum Fitness Show- Jennifer placed 1st in the figure divison. In December she had seen pictures of figure competitors and wanted to compete in that divison because of her body type. She was given the REAL rising star award and “I Decide” athlete winner for 2011 Michael David Photography • March 22, 2012 Ronnie Coleman Classic 6th place Figure A • October 2012- NPC Texas State Championships- 2nd place Figure, Qualified for Nationals • November 2012- NPC Texas State Naturals Championships-1st place and Overall Figure, Quailfied Team Universe • June 2013- Adela Garcia Classic- 4th place Masters Figure, Qualified for Nationals, 4th place open figure A • *Jennifer Hennessey is a spokes model for Fit Bunny and Eat Fitters
Jennifer Hennessey is not just a competitor, but also contributes a lot of her free time to the NPC as a trophy presenter. She has presented at: NPC Shredder Classic 2013 NPC Fort Worth Classic 2013 NPC Branch Warren Classic 2013 NPC Central Texas Showdown 2013
Jennifer is also a well accomplished E.R. Veterinarian. During her preps she would have to stay up for 4 days at a time. Working for 8pm to 6am then going home and watching her children and working as a veterinarian journalist. She would eat up to 10 meals a day since her meals were spaced every 2-3 hours. During her work breaks she would uses the stairs at work for cardio, and she was able to keep up her energy without the use of caffeine. Jennifer has to be one of the most dedicated individual I have ever met. She is not only meeting her fitness goals, but her career goals as well, opening her own practice Animal ER of Northwest Houston opening in March 2014 in Cypress, Texas. It will be a 4,000 sq ft emergency and critical care veterinary office servicing trauma and critical care medical and surgical needs of Northwest Houston. She makes regular appearances on Houston Fox 26 News and also does occasional interviews for Houston KPRC Channel 2 news and DayBreak USA radio. She is also Author of How to Be Your Dogs Best Friend- Golden Retrievers ebook on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Jennifer is a Certified Veterinary journalist – author of “Let’s Talk” a column in Texas Veterinarian Magazine which helps vets discuss their client pets and find solutions. She is also on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Veterinary Journalist Jennifer is an Officer on the Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Quarter Horse Association, and Public Relations committee member for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association for the Gulf Coast. Jennifer is also the Program Director at PIMA Medical Institute – Vet Tech Program Jennifer started her own fitness business, Jenn Henn Fitness where she does coaching, posing and boot camp training. 2014 is going to be a big year for Jennifer she plans on competing in her first national show, and looking forward to earning her pro-card. She is also working on her ACE personal training certification. March is also the grand opening of Animal ER of Northwest Houston her own Veterinary practice. While everyone else makes excuses to quit Jennifer makes excuses not to quit. Even with sleep deprivation and raising two children there hasn’t been anything she can overcome. No Excuses

My fitness journey started in May of 2010 when I was introduced to CrossFit for the first time. I was one of those guys that went to the gym a couple times a week, lifted as heavy as possible, skipped the cardio, and ate what I wanted. I was 250 lbs at the time and playing Semi-pro football for fun. I remember walking in to the CrossFit gym and laughing at my buddy when he told me this first CrossFit workout was only 5 movements of 20 reps each with a 95 lb bar. Seventeen minutes later when I finally finished and was laying on my back in a puddle of sweat trying to breathe, I realized I needed to make some changes in my life and start living healthier. I started doing CrossFit 3-4 times a week and over the next 4 months dropped 30 lbs and haven’t looked back since. I began competing in local CrossFit competitions and met a lot of great athletes along the way. My hunger for success did not stop there, In 2011 I competed in my first body building show not knowing anything about contest prep or dieting for a show and placed 2nd (out of 3 guys lol). It was fun so I began to focus more on lifting weights instead of CrossFit and learning more about nutrition. Before my next show I met trainer Brett Buckles who helped me with my diet and helped direct me to a the infamous Ms. Sheilahe Brown for posing. I competed in the Texas State Naturals that November and placed 2nd again but this time in a bigger class of 14. It was great placing 2nd but being so close to getting a win pushed me even harder. Going into 2013, I began studying nutrition and getting as much information as possible about show prep and the actual science behind how the body responds to changes in food intake and training. I began reading a lot of the articles from Dr. Layne Norton and using many of the methods he talks about in his studies. The first show I prepped for using these methods was the Shredder Classic. I looked great about 8 days out but then decided to change one of the variables in my diet which had bad results. I didn’t look very good come show day and was lucky to even place 5th. My next show Europa, I stayed the course with my diet but couldn’t get dialed in my best before the show and placed 8th. 2 weeks before the final show of the season for me, I began looking for some nutritional help from a good coach. I contacted Layne Norton who was not taking clients at the time but he did recommend a list of coaches who he knows that would help me reach my goals the right way instead of using some guru methods. I contacted John Otis Hollywood and he helped me dial in right and I won the overall at the Central Texas Showdown. These past few years have taught me so much and I have met so many amazing athletes along the way. I never stop being inspired by their talents and continued drive for something more. Some of these athletes include but are not limited to; “The Texas Shredder” Dave Goodin, Randy Tiner, Steve Cook, Lance Schilling, Kevin Perod, Sadik Hadzovic, Steven Mass, and the greatest of all time Ronnie Coleman. I cannot thank these individuals enough for paving the way for people like me to achieve their dreams. If I could channel even the smallest sliver of their dedication I would consider that a win! If I could offer any advice to a new comer I would tell them to follow their dreams, no matter how big, or how dumb they may be, your going to do it wrong, your going to mess up, make mistakes and be completely clueless, DONT STOP! This is only the beginning. What lies head is more then you could ever imagine. 2014 will be an amazing year! Not only will I will competing in the Arnold classic to support Shrugz, I will also marry the love of my life and stand beside her on that once in a life time stage. I can’t wait to get back on the National stage and focus in on that IFBB pro card! Thank you all for your support. In the famous words of Vini Vegas “LE’GO”!!
