By Lois Mittino Gray The path to improved Internet service in Posey County was paved a little smoother after the second reading of the Infrastructure Development Zone ordinance at the April 2, meeting of the Posey County Commissioners at the Hovey House. Commission President Carl Schmitz opened a public hearing on the ordinance, numbered 2019-02-19-03, and with no remonstrators or comments, closed the hearing quickly and called the vote, which passed unanimously. The ordinance was passed after first reading at the February 19, commission meeting, but had to be legally advertised in the newspaper with a public hearing held at this meeting. This ordinance designates the unincorporated areas of Posey County as an Infrastructure Development Zone. County Attorney Joe Harrison explained this ordinance would enable businesses that install broadband facilities to have a five-year personal property abatement if providing expanded or new Internet services. Harrison explained the entire unincorporated area would be considered the development zone and service should be able to come to outlying homes.

It was an all-day event. As Pastor Troy DeKemper details, the women’s recognition started at the morning church service, including songs to honor them and an open microphone for family and friends to give speeches about Mary’s and Connie’s labors of love. A dinner followed in the afternoon with delicious home-cooked dishes and fellowship. Both Mary’s and Connie’s families blessed them with their attendance and their tributes. Mary’s husband, Tony, their three sons, and their seven grandchildren gathered as did Connie’s husband, Roger, their two sons and one daughter, and seven of their eight grandchil-
