By Lois Mittino Gray Mindy Bourne, Executive Director of the Posey County Area Plan Commission, told the Posey County Commissioners at their January 17, meeting that it is time to think about getting grant money to update the county’s plan. “Our present plan was adopted in 2008. Plans are to be updated every five to ten years, so we’re at that point,” she indicated. “If we are going to seek a grant to get it done, we will need to do an income study. We are asking the county to pay for that part of it and I have brought quotes for the contract work.” Bourne turned the podium over to Carol Hagedorn, Vice-President of Community Development for the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana. Her organization would charge $2,000 for contracted services to do the study. “At this time Posey County does not qualify for a grant with the current numbers we have. We need to assess actual income and need 565 responses to our survey,” she explained. “We will do all the publicity and mail it out, but will probably end up having to go door to door to get the full number of responses. Answering God’s call Posey County brothers follow their faith into ministerial positions By Pam Robinson Talking with brothers Nathanial, 29, and Austin Denning, 22, demands full concentration to follow their dynamic movement from one topic of conversation to another. One can only imagine the energy required to keep up with the Point Township natives as they walk their walk in Christian ministry. Youth is definitely not wasted on these young men, the sons of Phillip and Sally Denning. Big brother Nathanial says he accepted God’s call to ministry 10 years ago while attending the Nazarene Camp Camby in Camby, Ind. Now a fully-ordained Nazarene minister, he is preparing to lead a church planting in Evansville this coming August. He will serve as the senior pastor of Northside Community Church to be located in the historic McJohnston Chapel

at the corner of Kansas Road and Erskine Lane in McCutchanville. The doors will open the weekend of August 11 and 12 with a Saturday night and a Sunday morning service that will repeat every weekend thereafter. “I’ve never done anything like this before,” he comments. “I’m excited about it.” Nathanial’s enthusiasm animates every word he speaks about the new venture. He’s excited enough to leave behind the security of a pastor’s salary to become “bi-vocational,” a fancy term for holding down two full-time jobs. In his new situation, Nathanial is surrendering to a full-time volunteer pastor’s position and is searching now for a job to support his family until Northside Community Church becomes self-sustaining.
