By Valerie Werkmeister The Posey County Commissioners opened their Feb. 7, meeting with reports from treasurer, Justin White. He asked for approval of the county’s investment policy and stated there were no changes made to the policy, it only needed annual approval. Next, he delivered the treasurer’s report for 2016. A total of $96,751.55 accumulated in interest from various county checking accounts. He reported the year-end balance of all checking accounts and all fund accounts totaled $98,852.13. The total cash on-hand balance was $26,186,794.30. Commissioner Carl Schmitz questioned White on the use for the Congressional School Fund. White stated the principal balance is $44,000 and a total of $286.60 accumulated in interest. White explained that he had limited knowledge about the funds’ use since it was handled by the Auditor’s office. White

White stated he would do some investigating about the fund. Before the end of the meeting, White reported the Congressional School Fund was established in the 1930s and there is currently $27,223 in interest that has accumulated. He was not sure when the last distribution was or what amount is eligible to be distributed to the schools. He said additional investigation would need to be completed. Mount Vernon Mayor Bill Curtis requested permission to use the county’s Geographic Information System (GIS) to do repairs along the river bank. He
