signs are publicly posted on a home. That advice was given as part of the peddler permit discussion that was the focal point of the Mount Vernon Common Council meeting on March 15 in City Hall. The strongarm seller situation has come to the forefront with a peddler nicknamed “Spectrum
Steve” selling cable services and vacuum demonstrators barging into homes to do demonstrations. Complaints include soliciting during evenings and late hours, covering up cameras and blocking peepholes at the front door, shouting and nasty comments, and distracting one homeowner, while
another person walks in with the vacuum cleaner. Corporal Darrin Lemberg of the Mount Vernon Police Department has posted on the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Watch Facebook Page to contact him if you have dealings with “Spectrum Steve” or similar complaints. Most of these sellers do not have the required permits.
Council members are deciding on ordinance amendments dealing with city peddler permits. Right now, a peddler needs a permit which sells for $10 per day issued by City Clerk-Treasurer Christi Sitzman. “I know for a fact that one cable tv seller came to my door and I asked him if he had a

$50K gifted to bridge project Special to the News The Harmony Way Bridge Project Committee announces a $50,000 pledge from the Kent and Laurie Parker Family Foundation. This gift will be dedicated to a restricted reserve within the Parker family’s foundation with the express purpose of helping offset the realized expenses of restoration and physical improvements to the bridge. The Kent and Laurie Parker Family Foundation, Inc. is a private foundation organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in the state of Indiana, with the principal office located in New Harmony. “We are thrilled about this lead gift from the Kent and Laurie Parker Family Foundation,” said Project Director Lora Arneberg. “This gift is structured to enable work on the bridge to begin when the time is appropriate, so that we may continue to move the project

Deputies covered under blanket policy By Dave Pearce The Poseyville Town Council unanimously approved, on March 14, a measure that will serve as a blanket policy for Posey County deputies who may work hours as Poseyville Town Marshalls. Prior to this ordinance, the deputies were named individually. This will allow individuals who become available to work necessary shifts
