goodbye for now By Pam Robinson After dedicating 30 years of her adult life to the MSD of North Posey, Susie Tooley celebrated her retirement Wednesday afternoon as North Posey Junior High School guidance counselor with colleagues, former employees and family. Her love for the school district started, however, as a toddler following in the footsteps of her father, Leonard Mauck. Her resignation letter sets forth the details best. “I first set foot on the shiny, new floors of North Posey Jr/Sr High School in the 1959-60 school year, when I was 2 ½-years-old. My dad, Leonard Mauck, had just accepted a position as a teacher and coach in the newly consolidated school. Little did I know that those halls and this school would be the center of my world for most of my life,” she writes. “I accompanied my dad to his

By Dave Pearce Anyone who has ever been involved in coaching is aware that you typically don’t do it for the money. However, as a result of action taken this week at the North Posey School Board meeting, some coaches at North Posey will receive a modest increase in the amount of compensation they receive for their positions. In the meeting, held in the library
of South Terrace Elementary School on May 14, 2018, the board approved School Supt. Dr. Todd Camp’s request to approve the memorandum of understanding with the NEA of North Posey. As a result of the approval, there will be a stipend increase to $6,000 for the high school head baseball and softball coaches; an increase

By Lois Mittino Gray Heart-thumping motocross races will kick off the Posey County Fair this year as one of the first events on Sunday, July 15. “This year, we want to bring back the excitement of the races and we have added some new jumps to the course and a few other changes,” explained Brian Stallings, Motocross Chairman. One major change is that “quads” or four wheelers have been invited back this year, after some absence, to participate in a second race category. “I can’t say this will be permanent, but we want to test it out,” Stallings commented. Motocross is a word coined from a combination of motorcycle and
cross country. It is a timed race on a closed course consisting of winding dirt trails with hills, jumps, sharp turns, and often muddy terrain. Participants fly and leap into the air and can come out a muddy mess. Besides just the fun of mud, the track is wet down on purpose to keep the dust down. Motocross participants can register their bikes starting at 6:30 a.m. that Sunday morning at the fairgrounds. There is a $30 fee to enter the point series. The series adds accumulated points through the year with prizes given at the end of the season. If someone would like to
