By Lois Mittino Gray A special meeting in Indianapolis arranged by a former Town Council President rankled the current New Harmony Council President Alvin Blaylock and heated words were exchanged at a recent town council meeting on June 20. The meeting in the state capital was initiated by David Campbell with an email request on May 18, to David Nance, an Engineering Geologist at the DNR’s Division of Water, to bring a few local folks up to get a review of things pertaining to New Harmony’s river flooding and Class A floodplain designation. During the town council meeting, Councilman David Flanders, who accompanied Campbell to the special meeting, gave a report on some of the things discussed, including reimbursement from the Department of Homeland Security for cleanup of debris after the severe May floods. President Blaylock had just announced he has arranged to have cleanup along the river done by volunteers, the Roby brothers. Flanders told him they should keep a record of man hours and equipment used for the service, since it may be reimbursed by the DHS.
