Clean-up aid sought from Poseyville locals By Valerie Werkmeister A call for neighborly assistance might be in order for Poseyville residents. Poseyville Town Council members discussed a letter they received from Justin Collins of Poseyville regarding tall weeds and abandoned cars in town in violation of the town’s ordinance. Poseyville Town Marshal Charles Carter stated he viewed some of the properties on the list and wondered if, instead of issuing fines to the residents, a crew of volunteers could help their neighbors get the properties back in order. Carter suggested he could supervise a crew of volunteers that could tackle the tall weeds or mow grass on each property and felt it would help instill a sense of community pride. Some of the properties in need of attention are owned by elderly residents or others who may not be able to adequately handle the required work. Town council members embraced the idea and felt it would be good for the community. Ron Fallowfield stated that a few churches in the community has helped some residents in the past and would like to see the idea expanded. Carter requested approval for the employment of two additional deputies.

Town improvements up to Cynthiana residents

This vehicle ended up on it’s top on Sauerkraut Lane in Mount Vernon on Sunday afternoon. See story below.

Chase ends west of MV Special to the News On Sunday September 18, 2016, at approximately 3:49 p.m., Posey County Deputy Sheriff Dan Montgomery attempted to stop a white Ford Mustang for speeding on State Road 69 near Stevens Road. The vehicle was traveling south on State Road 69, and initially the driver indicated that he was pulling the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway. As Montgomery approached, the driver abruptly accelerated and pulled away from the deputy. The vehicle turned off the highway at Farmersville School, and traveled west on Rippey Road. At times the vehicle reached speed up 90 miles-per-hour as the driver attempted to flee. The pursuit continued south onto Base Road and then west on Givens Road, with the driver operating the vehicle in an extremely reckless manner. The chase ended on Sauerkraut Lane, just south of the Upton Road intersection, as the driver lost control of the vehicle when cresting a hill. The vehicle collided into an embankment and rolled over. The driver was identified as Terry L. McCleve (age 51) of Ridgeway, Ill. McCleve had outstanding Traffic Warrants in Vanderburgh County and licensing issues with the BMV. McCleve was transported to Deaconess Hospital by Posey County EMS. Sheriff Greg Oeth is sending a case file with charging information to the Posey County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Mount Vernon Police and Black Township Fire Department assisted in the investigation.

By Valerie Werkmeister Cynthiana officials are encouraging residents to fill out and return income surveys they have received in the mail. The surveys were recently mailed to a random selection of Cynthiana residents, so not every resident will receive one. The surveys are a necessary part in the process toward assisting the town to receive approval for grants that may cover the costs of upgrades to the wastewater treatment facility. Approximately 170 surveys were mailed out and 152 responses are needed in order for the survey to be

considered valid. All surveys are confidential. If enough responses are not received, a follow-up mailing will be sent out within the next 20-30 days. If necessary, surveys may be taken door-to-door. The town was recently notified they were awarded a Community Crossings grant. They received $60,000 from the state to match $60,000 they pledged to use towards repaving roads. Town employee Ken Gorbett stated he will attend a planning meeting to find out how to pro-

Posey’s EMS Litton honored by Deaconess

Point Township Fire Chief Jay Price accepts an AED device for his department as the result of Posey County EMS paramedic Jim Litton’s Pre-Hospital Provider of the Year award given by Deaconess this week. Photo courtesy of Deaconess Hospital

By Pam Robinson Posey County EMS paramedic Jim Litton has earned the 2016 Deaconess Pre-Hospital Provider of the Year Award for his 37 years of EMS service, logging over 80,000 hours in more than 15,000 runs. Perhaps more important, the award calls attention to Litton’s respect among community first responders. Three emergency room doctors chose Litton from 10 nominees to receive the 2016 Deaconess Pre-Hospital Provider of the Year Award. He has seen his letter of nomination, but still doesn’t know who nominated him since award judges keep the information anonymous. The 2016 Deaconess Pre-Hospital Provider of the Year Award entitled

Litton to an automatic external defibrillator, or AED, valued at upwards of $6,500 and used to treat cardiac arrest. He could present the AED to the Posey County first response team of his choice. The man of many hats, including Fire Chief, Jay Price expressed great thanks on behalf of his own Point Township Fire Department, which received the AED. Receipt of the AED describes only one small reason, however, for Price’s praise of Litton. Enthusiasm and joy fill Price’s remarks immediately following the September 14 Deaconess awards ceremony. “There isn’t anyone I know more

Clinics to work together, could add county next By Lois Mittino Gray Posey County’s two school districts announced Wednesday that they will work together in a landmark sharing agreement of their two health clinics to offer better hours and convenient locations for their eligible patrons. Mount Vernon and North Posey school districts will unite to offer more hours to customers at no additional costs to them. “This is unprecedented for two major school corporations to cooperate like this to make it happen. One key is that they both have wellness and health insurance committees made up of teachers and support staff who helped to develop this plan. It will benefit the whole community,” said Joe Neidig, CEO of Tri State Community Health Clinics. His firm provides the medical personnel and equipment to staff the two health clinics. The sharing agreement will allow eligible employees of each school district to use the other district’s clinic when it is available, as well as their own. Each clinic is open twelve hours per week right now. With the agreement, the

hours will not overlap, so this will mean that employees will have 24 hours of clinic time available to schedule appointments each week. In most cases, the same nurse practitioners and nurses often serve both clinics, so employees will see familiar faces at both locations. Clinic visits may be scheduled online, by phone or in person. North Posey’s clinic is located at the corner of Indiana 66 and 165 in Wadesville at 4922 Highway 165. It is the older of the two clinics, started in 2013 according to Dr. Todd Camp, North Posey School Superintendent. The Mount Vernon Clinic is located in the former Hedges Central School. It was opened in spring of 2015 and is very well used, according to Dr. Tom Kopatich, Mount Vernon School Superintendent. Currently, the two clinics alternate morning and afternoon shifts on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Morning shifts run from 7 to 11 a.m. and
