By Dave Pearce An investigation by the Indiana State Board of Accounts has resulted in the arrest of a Posey County couple on charges of welfare fraud. According to information included in the Probable Cause Affidavit, Mount Vernon residents Joshua and Keren Greene were Keren Greene arrested Friday evening. Each posted a $1000 bond and was released pending upcoming court appearances. Keren Greene was charged with Welfare Fraud and Joshua Greene was charged with theft. Both are considered Level 6 Felonies. Gibson County Prosecutor MiJoshua Greene chael R. Cochran filed the paperwork in Posey County Superior Court on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. The charges stem from an investigation of the Black Township Trustee’s Office during the tenure of Lindsay Suits. Suits passed away on August 21, 2016, and the State Board of Accounts completed their investigation

Sheriff deputies confiscate marijuana bricks By Lois Mittino Gray Posey County Deputy Sheriffs Dan Montgomery and Josh Brock confiscated two tightly-bound bales of marijuana, weighing 52 pounds and valued at approximately $80,000, during a routine traffic accident call on I-64 early Friday morning.
Stray cat issues brought before Board of Works By Lois Mittino Gray Mary Ann Watson, who resides at 920 Canal, said she is called “the Cat Lady of Canal Street.” She told members of the Mount Vernon Board of Works at its September 14, meeting that boxes of kittens have been left for her in her garage two times. “I must have a sign on my garage roof saying ‘cats stop here’, as I’ve taken care of so many. There is a big problem with cats throughout the city.” Watson asked if the city has ever had any regulations for cats? Mayor Bill Curtis replied he believes they fall under the leash law. Watson said that law is for pet owners, but she questioned strays. She said
