Poseyville’s Autumnfest declared a winner this year By Valerie Werkmeister Poseyville Kiwanians could not have asked for more perfect weather during Autumnfest this past weekend. Several food vendors agreed, warm 80-degree weather and clear skies combined for one of the best Autumnfest celebrations in the past few years. Many local organizations depend on the Autumnfest to help fund their events, programs or scholarships throughout the year. A successful Autumnfest means more generosity in the long run. The event featured inflatable jump houses for the children, bingo games, food vendors, a craft fair and flea market, Little Miss and Mr., Autumnfest princess and Miss Autumnfest contests as well as a performance by band, Hot Rod Lincoln on Saturday night. Melody Lantz of Wadesville operates the ice cream booth which was certainly a popular attraction this weekend. She was pleased with the crowds on Sunday who gathered around her booth for sweet treats.

“It was certainly a better crowd and better sales this year than it has been in the last three years,” Lantz said. The weekend kicked off with the annual Kiwanis all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast. They served 110 Saturday morning. The third annual Pumpkin Run/ Walk 5K continues to grow and drew 100 registered participants to Poseyville this year. The event is coordinated by Poseyville Boy Scout Troop 387 parents and proceeds benefit the troop activities and supplies throughout the year. The overall winner of the race was Angela Reckelhoff of Evansville with a time of 20:22 minutes. The overall male winner was Brian Nelson of Evansville with a time of 20:36 minutes. The overall winner of the walk was JT Cochran of New Harmony. Services bill becomes an issue By Valerie Werkmeister Posey County officials have continued their game of playing ‘Hot Potato’ with a $65,000 bill for the second month in a row. The bill has bounced between discussions with Posey County Commissioners, the Posey County Council and the Redevelopment Commission as each entity tries to determine who is responsible for paying the bill. During their meeting last Tuesday, September 16, county council members tried to gain insight regarding the hefty bill that was generated by Structure Point, an engineering, architecture and planning firm from Indianapolis. Structure Point was hired by the county commissioners to do a study on the construction of a bypass around Mount Vernon in an attempt to alleviate some of the heavy traffic expected when the new Midwest Fertilizer Plant began construction. At the time Structure Point was hired, the commissioners hoped the new plant would purchase bonds in order to pay for the study fees and a portion of the bypass construction. However, delays have caused the new comKaysie Collins and Lucas Goings graciously accept the title of Queen and King of pany to not be in a position to purchase the bonds. longer intends to purchase the bonds from the county as they do not want to be known as the reason for the need of a bypass. Now that Structure Point has sent the bill for their services, county council members have questioned commissioners whether the company completed the work satisfactorily and how they intended the county to pay the bill. During their August meeting, commissioner president Carl Schmitz stated the firm was hired during the commissioners’ meeting on December 17, 2013, a point that former county executive assistant Keely Winiger refutes. Winiger was present at last weeks’ meeting to provide information and clarity to the situation. She stated the contract was never on the commissioners’ agenda nor was it brought before a vote in a public meeting. Council member Don Mattingly asked commissioner Jerry Walden whether the work Structure Point had completed satisfied the commissioners as well as the company’s expectations regarding the contract.
