By Dave Pearce A seemingly routine arrest warrant being served in Posey County on Thursday afternoon went very wrong. According to Indiana State Police Information Officer Todd Ringle, 24-year-old Brandon McManomy was facing a rape charge in Kentucky and apparently stabbed himself when Posey County deputy sheriff Dan Montgomery and Indiana State Police Officer Kylen Compton entered the home to serve the arrest warrant. McManomy was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter for treatment of serious injuries. He was listed in critical information on Sunday. Montgomery suffered a cut to the face in the incident that occurred at 1:30 p.m. Montgomery was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for treatment of what was believed to be a minor injury. Ringle indicated that when the officers arrived, the father of the suspect gave the officers access to the home. “The father told the officers that the suspect was downstairs so the officers went downstairs to confront the suspect,” Ringle explained. “As soon as the officers got downstairs, they knew that the suspect did not want to go to jail. They were about 10 feet away and explained to the subject that they couldn’t go away and that they had to take him to jail. At that point, the suspect grabbed a knife that he had on his possession.
Members of the media huddle around Indiana State Police Information Officer Todd Ringle as he explains the details as they occurred during the serving of an arrest warrant in northeastern Posey County on Thursday. Photo by Dave Pearce The knife was about four inches in length. He began to stab himself in the throat area. He stabbed himself multiple times in the throat area.” Ringle went on to say that Montgomery used a Taser on McManomy, and he went down immediately and the officers approached the suspect to take him into custody. However, he still had the knife in his hand and kept swinging the knife. The blade of the knife contacted Montgomery in the face and McManomy was Tased a second time. At that point, he was taken into
custody and an ambulance was called for Montgomery and a helicopter was called to transport the suspect to St. Mary’s Hospital. Ringle indicated that Montgomery was bleeding a lot from the laceration but that heavy bleeding is not uncommon resulting from a cut to the facial area. “Posey County Sheriff Greg Oeth is at the hospital right now with his deputy,” Ringle told reporters. In a conversation with Oeth on Monday, he commended officers
for immediately beginning life-saving measures on the suspect stating that they probably saved his life. Following the incident, Posey County Prosecutor Travis Clowers, who was at the scene immediately upon hearing that an officer had been injured, said his office helped police obtain a search warrant for the home at 10700 Yellow Leaf Drive in the Woodland Court Subdivision in the northeastern part of the county.

Grimes to seek office of Poseyville Town Clerk By Valerie Werkmeister Nancy Grimes has decided to throw her hat into the ring for the Poseyville Town Clerk position…a second time. Grimes filed paperwork to become the Republican candidate last Monday, January 31. The 16year Poseyville resident previously held the clerk-treasurer position from 2000-2004. She was defeated in the election by Chris Lupfer, who held the position until this past December when she resigned unexpectedly. Grimes stated she enjoyed her work as the Poseyville Town ClerkTreasurer and is currently doing similar work at her current job in the

accounting and auditing department at the University of Evansville (UE) She has worked at UE since 2004 and has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies during this time. Grimes will also draw upon experience in the banking industry during her four years of employment at Fifth Third Bank in Poseyville before being elected in 2000. “I like taking care of the town and just feel this is the right thing to do. I am looking forward to the chance to serve my community well. I just hope I am given a chance during the primary (election) in May,” Grimes
said. Grimes is currently the only candidate who has filed for the position. She and her husband, Chris, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in August. They have two sons, Charlie, 22, and Fred, 20. Charlie is currently working on a degree at Ivy Tech Community College and has coached tennis and seventh grade basketball at North Posey Jr/Sr. High School the past couple of years. Fred enlisted in the army last year and is currently stationed in Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks, Alaska.
Tractor-trailer traffic primary concern of MV meeting By Pam Robinson In a unanimous vote, Mount Vernon City Council acting as the water utility board awarded a $300,000 performance contract to Johnson Controls, Inc., or JCI, to study the options for a permanent water intake system at Mount Vernon Water Works during its Monday, Jan. 24, meeting. That action was soon overshadowed, however, by a lengthy discussion among members acting as common council regarding the problem with tractor trailer traffic on Kimball Street
and the east side of Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon resident Larry Clark precipitated the discussion when he addressed council during the time for audience comments. Clark expressed his concern that semi trucks were traveling north and south on Kimball Street, a residential street with a park, not a truck route. He stressed that the truck traffic is tearing up the street, particularly at the intersection of Fourth and Kimball. He pointed out also that the trucks are ignoring the three-way stop at Bluff and Kim-
ball. He urged council to address the situation. Councilwoman Becky Higgins was the first to respond to Clark. She confirmed his concerns with her report that she had observed trucks traveling south on Kimball January 19 at 6 a.m. She noted that the city had approved trucks traveling north, but not south, on Kimball. As a result of her observations, she had met with authorities at the port to provide names of the truck companies in violation. In turn, port authorities had contacted the
truck companies. Higgins emphasized the truck traffic on Kimball Street created a safety issue, especially with children crossing at Fourth Street before and after school. She commented that everyone from the mayor to council members had spoken with the Indiana Department of Transportation, or INDOT. In response, she said, INDOT explained a twothree year traffic study needed to be conducted before anything could
