(January 23, 2014) – Christopher Prentice, Senior Vice President , America and Vice President Global Marketing, Mazor Robotics, presented “Code Rosie: Robotics in the Operating Room,” earlier today at the Association for Advancing Automation (A3) Business Forum, a premier event exploring how and why the robotics industry is changing businesses for the better. Mr. Prentice’s presentation detailed how robotic technology has helped overcome limitations such as vision and motion in the operating room, as well as provided an overview of different robotic devices used in surgery today across a variety of specialties. “Code Rosie” was met with much intrigue by those in attendance – including some of the robotics industry’s top executives and leaders. “Robotics in surgery helps eliminate inherent limitations in the operating room and helps create an improved work environment for both the patient and the doctors involved," Prentice said during his presentation. “Furthermore, increasing automation in healthcare can help save costs and improve the industry in ways we’ve never seen before.” According to a 2013 report by Transparency Market Research, the global medical robotic systems market was worth $5.48 billion in 2011 and is expected to reach $13.64 billion by 2018, leading to more robots in the operating room and an improved operating room experience for patients. The major advantages of robotic surgery systems, according to the study, include improved surgical outcomes, accurate procedure execution and rapid post-surgical recovery. Mr. Prentice’s Orlando-based company, Mazor Robotics, is a leader in surgical spine equipment and one of Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies. Recipient of Florida Hospital’s Innovation Award, Mazor Robotics has been recognized as an organization that is advancing healthcare through innovation and collaboration.
