This 1890 miner’s cabin in Aspen’s West End sits across from Jerome B. Wheeler’s home. When viewed from Bleeker Street, it radiates a cottage feel, belying its large 4,636 sq. ft., three-story interior. Poss collaborated with Workshop/APD, a New York based architecture and design firm, in renovating this unique homestead into a marvel of mountain modern style. Part of the triumph of this home relies on a cohesive design, balancing perfectly the interior and exterior mountain themes.

Located on Sunset Ridge overlooking the Deep Creek Canyon, Sunset Ridge is surrounded by a 360 degree panoramic view of the San Miguel Mountain range in Telluride, Colorado. This 12,000 sq. ft. ultra-modern residence was designed to incorporate the surround landscape by providing gorgeous vistas from every angle of the residence. The vision for Sunset Ridge was to create a unique residence that provides inspiration and surprise with every turn, while enhancing one’s sense of wonder, when experiencing its context within its surroundings. The architectural design was profoundly inspired by its surroundings, yet makes a unique statement as a dramatic response to its environment.

This unique single-family home, perched over the Roaring Fork River, was a complete interior and exterior remodel transformation. Poss Architecture + Planning and Interior Design, along with designer Lynni Hutton, created an open loft-like feel by relocating the stairway and reconfiguring upper level’s layout. New exterior materials include Western red cedar siding. Interior furnishings and finishes were carefully selected to highlight the airy design.

This contemporary, award-winning design was inspired by client’s admiration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Fallingwater”. The residence is sited on an extraordinary, narrow peninsula of land surrounded by tall evergreens and red rock outcroppings, with a rushing river below. Terraced down the hillside, this floor plan positions the majority of living spaces along the point of the peninsula, maximizing views of the surrounding Castle Creek valley.

Bill attended New York Institute of Technology where he received his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology. Before moving to Texas, Bill worked as a designer at Terra Devco Land and Development, a joint venture partnership with Mitchell Energy and Development Company in New York. Bill’s love of the mountains was the motivating force behind his move to Aspen, Colorado. This is where he founded Poss Architecture + Planning in 1976. As Bill’s reputation for quality design and long lasting client relations grew, the firm expanded into other project types. These projects include executive resort conference centers and commercial infill. More recently, master planning and design of golf and ski resort ventures, hotels, and other hospitality projects. Today, Poss Architecture + Planning and Interior Design has established a reputation throughout the United States and abroad. Bill’s design philosophy varies from project to project, depending on the physical elements and client’s needs. There is a strong commitment towards regional context and landscape integration with the architectural design of all projects. As the managing partner, Bill takes a personal interest in all Poss Architecture + Planning and Interior Design projects and works closely with each project’s team to ensure a seamless product and service.

Andy Wisnoski joined Poss Architecture + Planning and Interior Design in 1989 and has been a Partner since 2004. As Director of Design, he brings over 40 years of experience as well as expertise in every architectural process, from project management to commercial planning to interior design. Mr. Wisnoski received a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University and has since designed projects of all varieties, including corporate offices, resort facilities, retail projects, and single-family residences. Andy wields his robust and complimentary skillet with clarity and vision, helping clients to realize their project goals in spectacular fashion. For his professionalism and flawless execution, he’s earned the loyalty of an international clientele, people who appreciate not only his design process but also the outstanding quality of his portfolio. In the Aspen area, Andy’s commercial and resort projects include The Maroon Creek Club Townhomes, Owl Creek Townhomes, Hyatt Grand Aspen Hotel, and the River Valley Ranch Master Plan and Imagery. He’s also garnered acclaim for his residential designs, such the Goldberg Residence, Halle Residence, Lauder Residence, and the Ponds Residence.

Rachel Guest joined Poss Architecture in 2015 and was recently promoted to Senior Associate and head of the Interior Design Team. Equipped with talents both creative and strategic, Mrs. Guest also spearheads Business Development at Poss. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the American Intercontinental University in Los Angeles, California. Rachel’s experience in both commercial and residential design is extensive, spanning more than 15 years. Her projects are at once modern and timeless, exceptional spaces that evoke balance, beauty, and harmony to enhance the lives of their occupants. She credits her success in design to her unique process, a blend of artistry, technology, and innovative techniques that are as efficient and meticulous as they are inspired. To unwind, Rachel enjoys singing, painting and swimming with her daughter, Phoebe.
