It is open all day for you to send letters and postcards, with stamps canceled with the Spring Fest Logo to stamp collecting family and friends!

Spring Fest Art Contest winner Mason Bruton

If you want to find our young Pender Spring Fest Artist, Mason Banner Bruton, in his element, just track down this thoughtful, exuberant nine-year-old to Ms Carlisle’s third grade Art Class at Topsail Annandale Elementary School. This is where he says, “I can let my mind go free. I love letting my hand go free and slide. Art sometimes lets my mind drop down and keeps me from getting overwhelmed.”

You will likely find him painting his world in his favorite color, which he declares is, «PINK, by a long shot.» And he goes on to explain, “Because the brightness of it makes me happy!”

“The thrill of floating upside in space would be amazing!”

On a rainy day you might find him cuddled up with one of his favorite books from the series, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, where he proclaims, “A lot of very eventful things happen.” Or, if it’s a cold December evening, he might be sipping a warm cup of hot chocolate and watching his new favorite movie, It’s A Wonderful Life. Which he surmises, “Tells the story about a person who doesn’t appreciate his life until an angel helps him appreciate it.”

Mason might also be planted in front of the TV watching one of his heroes on the Sports Channel. If it’s soccer season, Lionel Messi captures his attention with his fancy footwork. But when the sun comes out, Mason can be found outside, either romping with his Golden Retriever, Sailor Bell...Or hitting a golf ball as he strives to reach the ranks of his other hero, “#1 Golfer, Scottie Scheffler.” Or when the moon comes up, you may find Mason out star gazing and contemplating his potential future, as an Astronaut... because he thinks,

But amidst all his varied interests and hobbies, you can find this young artist «just sketching around,» as he puts it. And we›re thankful for that! Because his «sketching around» yielded a logo design of a happy little flower, blowing in the breeze, beneath a hopeful rainbow, perched on two fluffy clouds, which we think is the perfect feelgood image for the 2024 Pender Spring Festival.

T shirts with Mason’s, “Happy Little Flower” will be on sale at the festival, and don’t forget to visit the US Post Office, in the Gazebo, on Spring Fest Day, where post cards and envelopes, stamped and canceled with his design, can be mailed to your stamp collecting friends and family.

Those of us on the Pender Spring Festival Committee are pleased and proud to have Mason Bruton›s artwork to mark our 47th year of celebrating the good life in our special little spot on this planet! Thanks Mason! And keep on “SKETCHING AROUND.”!
