Excerpts from Norway Post’s environmental goals Within these priority areas, the Group has established goals, including: • By 2015 CO2 emissions are to be reduced by 30% from 2008 baseline • By 2015, 91% of waste is to be recycled • By 2015 energy consumption and oil heating in building is to be reduced by 15% • Build employee knowledge and visible commitment to environmental management in daily operations

Assessment of new and existing goals and measures is be a part of Norway Post’s ongoing environmental work.

Norway Post aims to ensure that where possible freight is to be transported by rail. Norway Post currently is constantly finding ways to increase rail transport. Bring Frigo has recently introduced a temperature regulated intermodal transport solution between Denmark and Italy. This is a combination of rail and road transport that reduces carbon emissions by 43% on this entire route. In Norway, rail utilization is at more than 80% in areas where rail is available.

Alternative vehicle strategy Norway Post is continuously working with partners and suppliers to develop and test alternative vehicles. The mail division plans to replace 1300 fossil fuelled vehicles with non-fossil transport within 2015. This work is progressing well with the introduction of 80 electrical trolleys and 100 electrical scooters. In addition, electrical jeeps, parcel van and biogas vehicles are being tested for further use in other areas. Norway Post signed an agreement with Ford in March 2011 to purchase 20 electrical distribution vehicles. These vehicles are the first of its kind and have a load capacity comparable to fossil fuel vehicles. Bring Express utilizes bicycles as transport form for express deliveries in cities. In total 63 bicycles are in use in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. Bring Express also has 35 biogas vehicles in Sweden.

Climate neutral parcels

using alternative fuels where vehicles are utilized, using newest vehicles and eco driving The climate neutral parcel product is one training of drivers. UN approved carbon of the Group’s products that affect the credits are purchased in order to offset environment the least as the majority of the residual emissions – this ensures that the transport is by rail. Post Norway is continually product is climate neutral. The credits working to reduce its emissions associated support projects in Indonesia that replace with the product value chain. This includes coal energy with bio-energy in cement

production. The projects plan to reduce CO2 emissions by one million tons over a seven year period.

Employee awareness and competence. The employees in Norway Post are one of the most important resources in order to reduce our emissions. The Group is continuing with its systematic work to deliver environmental awareness training to all its employees. An e-learning platform is utilized and more than 3000 employees have completed this training. Norway Post also works continually to ensure

that drivers receive eco-driving competence. This contributes to a 5% reduction in fuel consumption and associated emissions.

Certification – ISO 14001 and Environmental Lighthouse

Environmental certification provides credible documentation of structured environmental Emissions calculator work and also contributes to building commitment and engagement of employees. Bring has developed an online tool that The Group has 8 ISO 14001 certificates and calculates the amount of CO2 a parcel emits 12 Environmental Lighthouse certificates. between specific destinations. The tool has There are plans to certify further areas of been verified by external third party. The tool the group. can be found at: www.bring.no/miljo

Energy The Group has achieved a 7% reduction in energy consumption from 2008. The amount of district heating used is now 12% of the total energy consumption. The majority of the Group monitors its energy consumption through an online tool that provides hourly consumption statistics. This enables benchmarking and implementation of energy saving actions.

Building consolidation Post Norway’s new eastern terminal opened in February 2010 and processes more than 60 % of the national post volumes in Norway. Due to building consolidation, the region has reduced it building volume by 10 000 m2 in 2010. This reduces total energy consumption in the region. The new terminal utilizes a geoenergy system that enables the building to provide a significant amount of energy that is required for its operations.

Waste Post Norway produces approximately 11000 tons of waste annually and the focus is on continually increasing the amount of waste that is recycled. The goal is to recycle 91% of waste my 2015. Recycling is economically beneficial and contributes to less environmental impact. The Group utilizes partners to ensure that waste is optimally recycled.

Cooperation with other environmental stakeholders Norway Post cooperates with many stakeholders in order to gain knowledge, best practice and to find innovative solutions to meet environmental challenges. Examples of this cooperation includes “Klimaløftet”, International Post Corporation (IPC), Klimapakten Stockholm city, Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Climate panel, PostEurop, Renaas, Grønt Punkt etc. Norway Post regularly participates at seminars and workshops and has discussions with suppliers and other partners in order to gain insight into how to best meet our common environmental

challenges. The Group also joined the Ecolabel environment procurement group that will assist in making sustainable purchasing decisions. For more information see Post Norway’s Annual and Sustainability Report 2010 : www.postennorge.no/aarsrapport/2010/ Bærekraft/Miljø

Improved urban environment Post Norway also aims to contribute to improved environment in urban areas. In 2010 the Group launched CO2 neutral letter delivery in Trondheim. This is a unique development in Norway that can be used in other urban areas. Post Norway is also a partner in the Oslo City Climate Pact which is a partnership with the

government and businesses in the Oslo area. The goal is to reduce emissions in the Oslo region. Post Norway also participates in Cities of the Future, a governmental initiative to reduce emissions in 13 major cities in Norway. Bring is represented in Clean Truck which is a EU-initiated partnership between shippers, vehicle manufacturers, fuel producers and the city of Stockholm. Bring also participates in

the Network for Transport and Environment (NTM) that works to develop standardised emission calculation methods for the transport sector.
