A rookie’s guide to Welcome to agribition! Agribition is a hot spot of world-class entertainment, shopping, food and family fun, and a place for urban and rural families to come together to celebrate agriculture. As the show grows and evolves, Agribition adds new programs, events and activities every year. Whether this is your first year or tenth year attending the show, this guide will help you experience the cultural, social and economic hub that is Agribition! There is so much going on at Agribition that the show can be a completely different experience from one person to the next. At the heart of it all is one very important tip: Have fun! footwear: Don’t have cowboy boots? Don’t worry — they are not mandatory for Agribition. Wear shoes that you find comfortable walking in and that you don’t mind getting a little dirty! But don’t worry, if you want to wear your fancy shoes, you can
get around most of Agribition without a speck of dirt! If you want to purchase your first pair of cowboy boots, take a trip to Cowtown – they’ll help you find the perfect boots. clothing: November can be cold, and walking between buildings can be chilly. It is recommended that you wear warm and comfortable clothing during your Agribition visit, and dress in layers. Parking: Parking on the grounds is free with gate admission and when those lots fill up, there is overflow parking nearby. If you don’t want to park on the grounds, take the Agribition Express. This bus service is $3 and includes free gate admission. Read more on page 23.
If attending day-time events, arrive around 9 a.m. to beat the rush.

Heading to Agribition with your friends or looking for a place to party in November? Agribition has some exciting events and party spots you must check out!
8 Canadian Western Agribition 2015
A great way to start off your night is by attending the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo at 7 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. Grab a Budweiser and watch saddle bronc, steer wrestling, bull riding and more! Finish the night off with some more fun at the Bud Light Loading Chute or The Swamp. If your night ends after the rodeo, you can still catch a ride on the Agribition Express back to Southland or Northgate Mall. The Bud Light Loading Chute makes a great hangout any day of the week and can be described as the “mullet” of entertainment. During the day, it’s business in the front – a place to sit down, share a bite to eat, and listen to some great music and entertainment at the Pump Roadhouse Stage. And in the evening, it’s a party in the back – live music, Bud Light, a mechanical bull and people having a great time, making it one of the biggest party zones in November. Make sure you get there right after the rodeo; it fills up fast!
Looking for a more unique party experience? You have to experience The Swamp. You can travel all over the world, and never find a place as unique and as legendary as The Swamp. This place, with its original brick finish and its hole-in-the-wall atmosphere, is a flash from the past. The timeless decoration of metal chairs, tiny round tables and the smell of Bud Light has been an attraction for Agribition show goers for more than 40 years. City or country, it’s worth a look into this Agribition original, especially because it may be the last year to experience it! This leads to the next party event. On Saturday night, a Farewell to The Swamp Cabaret will be held. Due to infrastructure improvements in the near
future, the Stadium and Swamp will be made into new venues. After Saturday’s rodeo, head over to the Chevrolet GMC Stadium for a goodbye party to the legendary Exhibition Stadium and The Swamp and enjoy entertainment by Julian Austin.
Agribition is a social place. Take advantage of three distinct party environments — three locations, three crowds, three types of fun — open all day. Visit the Bud Light Loading Chute, The Swamp, and the Watering Hole.

Rodeo 101
Originating out of ranching skills, rodeo events have evolved into the toughest sport on dirt enjoyed by both our rural and urban friends. Come 30 minutes early and check out some of the exhibits on the concourse. Arrive at the rodeo about 15 minutes early to find your spot before the entertainment begins. The rodeo kicks off with a grand entry – this is a 10-minute program to introduce the competitors and sing the anthem with a little wow factor mixed in. The Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo consists of seven events. Contestants compete all year long and come from across Canada, but only the best competitors will be in Regina. The seven events are split into two categories: roughstock events and timed events. roUgHstocK events Roughstock events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. These events tend to be filled with more action, suspense, and danger and are all about scoring. The scoring ranges from 0 to 100, with 100 being a perfect ride. A great score is 85 points. Competitors must ride for eight seconds, with no extra points awarded for riding longer than eight seconds and those who don’t reach eight seconds are given a score of zero. Fifty per cent of the score comes from the animal and 50 per cent comes from the cowboy. Cowboys are judged on their form and style while riding. Maintaining control is critical to a high score. The
animal is scored on how difficult they are to ride; the higher they buck and the more they kick, the better the score. timed events Timed events include ladies barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, and tie-down roping. These events tend to be more about precision and speed. Timed events are where you’ll find the ladies of rodeo. Ladies barrel racing is a horse-and-rider race where competitors must circle three barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern, and the fastest time wins. Ladies receive a five-second penalty for each barrel they knock over. Seldom can they win an event with this five-second penalty.
Rodeo fans are wild and active. When you see something you like, cheer.

Team roping, steer wrestling and tie-down roping all have something in common: competitors race against the clock. Like barrel racing, the fastest time wins. Penalties play a huge part in the timed events. Cowboys receive a 10-second penalty if they take an early head start. The 10-second penalty is akin to getting a speeding ticket – those penalized stand little or no chance of winning.
rodeo event sPonsors: • TransCanada – Bareback Riding • Spectra Energy – Saddle Bronc Riding • Fountain Tire – Steer Wrestling • Queen City Plumbing and Heating – Ladies Barrel Racing and Junior Barrel Racing • B & W Trailer Hitches – Team Roping
What to wear? Rodeo is not just for cowboys. Agribition rodeo fans range from young to old, city to country. If you like action, you’ll like rodeo. Hats and boots are optional. Note: It’s common for announcers to provide more details on the rules and technicalities of each event.
If you’re interested in meeting some cowboys or cowgirls face to face, leave the rodeo at the midpoint of the bull riding and head to the Bud Light Loading Chute in the Ag-Ex for live entertainment each night.

Agribition Express Bus Service As in previous years, parking on Agribition grounds is free with gate admission. Overflow parking is available at the Lancaster Lot next to the Lawson Aquatic Centre. To avoid parking on the grounds altogether, guests can take the Agribition Express bus shuttle service. For a cost of $3, rides are available from the Southland and Northgate Malls between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Please
note that the bus drivers accept cash only, so bring exact change. The best part is that Agribition Express riders receive free gate admission. After the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo (Tuesday to Saturday), the Agribition Express will be leaving the Brandt Centre and travelling to both the Northgate Mall and the Southland Mall.
