located in the Bud Light Loading Chute in the Ag-Ex Pavilion. Musical acts from across Saskatchewan will perform throughout the day. Acts vary from individual artists to larger dance groups performing from Monday to Saturday. There will also be interactive contests during the day with a chance to win awesome prizes, including tickets to the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo. Food at Agribition You will find a variety of food options to satisfy any craving at Agribition! There may be cattle everywhere, but the food choices far exceed just beef. Of course, there are your typical fair options like mini donuts, cotton candy, pocket dawgs and popcorn. Pocket Dawgs are located in the Cooperators Centre; Mini Donuts and Candyland can be found in the Ag-Ex Pavilion and Banner Hall. There are also various concessions in the Brandt Centre, offering burgers, nachos, popcorn, cotton candy and more!

Are you looking for something authentic that typifies Agribition? Try some pulled pork or hot beef sandwiches in the Bud Light Loading Chute. Or, mix it up a little, with some authentic Ukrainian perogies and cabbage rolls from an Agribition staple — Granny’s Kountry Kitchen. You will easily find Granny’s Kitchen in the hallway of the Co-operators Centre. Full-Contact Jousting If you’re new to Agribition, don’t worry, you aren’t the only one. There will be a new event at Agribition this year: Full-Contact Jousting. While many people associate jousting with the idea of chivalric knights and their adoring maidens, Full-Contact Jousting at Agribition displays the sport’s true physical and dangerous roots. This event features Shane Adams, a Canadian Equestrian Team athlete, in modern competitive jousting. Shane and the Knights of Valour will compete in a six-knight jousting tournament on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 3:30 p.m. in the Brandt Centre. As a warm-up before the joust, the knights will compete in a series of mounted games. After the games, they will ready themselves for the joust, which involves two men with 11-foot lances and two horses charging at each other on either side of a 180-foot fence, and colliding at 30 miles an hour. The primary aim is to strike the opponent with the lance to score points and, if possible, to unhorse the opponent. After five passes, the knight with the most points will move on to the next round until there is one Full-Contact Jousting Champion. Full-Contact Jousting will bring a new level of athleticism, bravery, and entertainment to Agribition. The competition does not feature choreographed jousting like you would see at dinner theatre entertainment, but rather authentic, competitive, full contact jousting. Rodeo 101 Known as the toughest sport on dirt, rodeo events originated as demonstrations of ranching skills, and are now enjoyed by both rural and urban folks alike.

ROOKIE TIP: Come 30 minutes early and check out some of the exhibits on the concourse. Arrive at the rodeo about 15 minutes early to find your spot before the entertainment begins. The rodeo kicks off with the grand entry, a 10-minute program that includes singing the national anthem and introducing the competitors — with a little wow factor mixed in. The Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo consists of seven events. Contestants from across Canada compete all year long, and only the best competitors will be in Regina. The seven events are split into two categories: roughstock events and timed events.

perfect ride, but 85 is a great score. Competitors must ride for eight seconds, with no extra points awarded for riding longer than that. Those who don’t reach eight seconds are given a score of zero. 50 per cent of the score comes from the animal and 50 per cent comes from the cowboy. Cowboys are judged on their form and style while riding. Maintaining control is critical to a high score. The animal is scored on how difficult they are to ride; the higher they buck and the more they kick, the better the score.

ROOKIE TIP: Rodeo fans are wild and active. When you see something you like, cheer.

Team roping, steer wrestling and tie down roping all have something in common: competitors race against the clock. Like barrel racing, the fastest time wins. Penalties play a huge part in the timed events. Cowboys receive a 10-second penalty if they take an early head start. The 10-second penalty is akin to getting a speeding ticket, and those penalized stand little or no chance of winning. Note: It’s common for announcers to provide details on the rules and technicalities of each event during the rodeo.

About the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo Contestants compete in rodeos across Canada all summer long and only the top money earners (top 11 in each major event) qualify to compete in Regina at the finals, where they vie for prize money. Each night of the rodeo, competitors start in equal standing. Points are awarded to the top four in each event after all five performances. On Saturday, the competitor with the most points is crowned the champion of the event. Awards and presentations occur after the rodeo on Saturday.

Roughstock Events

Roughstock events include Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding and Bull Riding. These events tend to be filled with action, suspense and danger. They are all about scoring, with totals ranging from zero to 100. A score of 100 is a

Timed events include Ladies Barrel Racing, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Tie Down Roping. These events tend to be about precision and speed. Timed events are where you’ll find the ladies of rodeo. Ladies barrel racing is a horse-and-rider race where competitors must circle three barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern, and the fastest time wins. Ladies receive a five-second penalty for each barrel they knock over. Seldom can they win an event with this five-second penalty.

ROOKIE TIP: What to wear? Rodeo is not just for cowboys. Agribition rodeo fans range from young to old, city to country. If you like action, you’ll like the rodeo. Hats and boots are optional.

Interesting facts: Cattle have a four-chambered stomach to break down plants that other animals would not be able to digest. Cattle can detect odours up to six miles away. Beef is an excellent source of protein, vitamin B12 and zinc. The average cow has about 40,000 jaw movements per day. The hide of one cow can produce enough leather to make 20 footballs, 18 soccer balls, 18 volleyballs or 12 basketballs. There are more than 500 breeds of cattle in the world.
