INVESTING IN BETTER SIDEWALKS

ALMOST 6 KILOMETRES OF SIDEWALKS REPLACED

The City contnues to invest in maintenance and rehabilitaton to improve the conditon of Saskatoon’s sidewalks. More than 3,900 sidewalk panels have been replaced across the city so far this year. Lined up end to end, it would reach 5.9 kilometres, the same distance as walking along the Meewasin Trail from the Circle Drive South pedestrian walkway to the University Bridge. A new sidewalk ratng program was introduced in 2015 to collect informaton about the conditon of every sidewalk, allowing a proactve and cost-effectve approach to sidewalk preservaton this year. Various factors contribute to the replacement plan in additon to the safety of users, including cost-saving opportunites when combined with other constructon projects, recommendatons from neighbourhood traffic reviews and available funding. City crews inspect and repair hundreds of reported sidewalk locatons year-round to reduce the risk of tripping and injuries from severe cracks, dips and exposed tree roots.
