NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DESIGNATE MUNICIPAL HERITAGE PROPERTY Notice is hereby given that the Council of The City of Saskatoon intends to pass a Bylaw, pursuant to the provisions of The Heritage Property Act, S.S. 1979-80, Chapter H-2.2 as amended, to designate as Municipal Heritage Property the following real property, namely: Surface Parcel No: 144853487 Legal Land Description: Blk/Par D Plan No. 61S14744 Ext 0 As described on Certificate of Title 61S14744A which includes the building situated on the property, known as the Mendel Building and Civic Conservatory. The civic address of the property is 950 Spadina Crescent East, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7K 3H6. The designation will be made subject to the following condition: 1. The designation shall include the exterior of the building and the interior lobby. The reasons for the proposed designation are as follows: 1. Its Modernist style of architecture, evident in the exterior brick façade (including the 1975 addition); free standing masonry walls; sawtooth portion of the roof; interior lobby design with open site lines; staircase; and the louvered ceiling in the former gallery space; 2. The elements of the Civic Conservatory’s exterior, including the glass façade, pyramid-shaped glass domes, concrete columns, and signage on the south façade; and 3. Those elements that relate to the building’s cultural significance, including the outdoor garden at the Civic Conservatory, the donor wall, and the siting of the building in relation to the riverbank.
