Hey Saskatoon! The very best entertainment value you will find is right in your back yard! No need to travel – no need to spend big dollars!! The 19th Annual John Arcand Fiddle Fest, presented by PotashCorp, runs August 11 to 14, featuring some of the best musicians, dancers and artisans from across Western Canada. The four-day family fun fest is conveniently located at Windy Acres, just 10 kilometers southwest of Saskatoon, just off the Pike Lake Highway. The fields and grounds become a temporary village as visitors from across Canada come for a weekend filled with music, dance and family fun. Something for EVERYONE! Although the John Arcand Fiddle Fest hosts one of Western Canada’s largest fiddle contests, it is much more than a fiddle contest it’s an entertainment extravaganza! From August 11 to 14, the festival will build on its legacy of musical entertainment from Canada’s top performers, seasoned and emerging concert artists, showcases, daytime programming, old-time dances and over 106 FREE workshops in fiddle, jigging, guitar, square dancing and Métis art forms. People have come to expect quality programming from the John Arcand

Fiddle Festival and this year will be no exception. The Fiddle Fest always kicks off with two full days of free educational workshops, open to all ages and every skill level from absolute beginners to advanced. The established workshop series offers fiddle, guitar, jigging and square dancing. The very popular Métis Cultural Camp features traditional Métis art forms - including beading (two types as well as a Kids Can Bead series), finger weaving, oral traditions workshops, embroidery, storytelling and traditional dance. The popularity of the Métis Cultural Camp has made it possible for the festival to partner with the Gabriel Dumont Technical Institute this year and increase the programming offered. Afternoon concerts start at 1:00 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday and feature an all-Saskatchewan lineup: Theresa Sokyrka, Jack Walton, the Standard Trio, Trent Bruner, The

The eagerly anticipated Fiddle Instructors Showcase begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, with the country’s top fiddlers performing individually and then uniting for an incredible group performance. The Friday Evening Showcase features a mix of music and dance that’s second to none…this year’s performances include French Canadian step dancing by Rhea Labrie, Daniel Gervais and Clinton Pelletier, Ed Peekeekoot, and Will Ballantyne. festival founder and namesake John Arcand teamed up with Calvin Vollrath for a musical journey that covers their many years of travelling, co-writing and performing together. Stories and tunes mix together for an unbelievable walk down memory lane. Both Friday and Saturday end with a live music, old-time dance! This year, the Fiddle Fest is proud to feature Western Canada’s favorite dance band, “The Hot Tamales”, for Friday’s old-time dance and one of Saskatchewan’s favourites, “Rural Routes”, on Saturday night! You don’t want to miss a minute of the fun! The Fiddles and Flapjacks Pancake Breakfast is a tasty start to Saturday’s extensive activities, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Saskatchewan Fiddle Connections will entertain the crowd with live fiddle music, while pancakes are enjoyed by all. Much of the excitement on Saturday and Sunday focuses on the Fiddle Contest. Competitors from Canada and the United States will vie for honours and serious cash prize money. On Sunday morning, Freddie and

Sheila Pelletier will take the stage at 9 a.m. for the non-denominational Gospel Hour and then it’s on to the Fiddle Contest finals. Sunday’s programming ends at approximately 3 p.m. “A big shout out to our many sponsors and funders! Their support has certainly played a large role in keeping our festival going and growing and enabled us to keep admissions affordable and accessible to everyone in the community,” says Vicki Arcand, festival producer and administrative director.
