ncoming members for Shortland, Charlton and Newcastle, Jill Hall, Pat Conroy and Sharon Claydon have indicated that they will support former Deputy Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, in the upcoming Labor Party federal parliamentary leadership ballot. The recently-elected MPs made the announcement in Argenton on Sunday, where the Member for Grayndler outlined his leadership vision to more than 250 rank and file party members at a packed event at Club Macquarie. Mr Albanese said while he had never made it his ambition to be Leader of the Labor Party, a commitment to the economy, opportunity, sustainability and a fair go made him the ideal candidate, over former Education and Workplace Relations Minister, Bill Shorten, at this time. “I have a vision, can bring unity and bring strength to the Labor leadership and we cannot afford to waste a single day. I would lead an Opposition that is prepared to be constructive and where the new government gets it right, I would be prepared to lend support to it. “I don’t want to be a no-alition.” Member-elect for Charlton, Mr Conroy, told party members he believed “Anthony [was] the best candidate by a country mile” and that he would be voting for Mr Albanese in the ballot because of his track record on delivering progressive policies. “I’ve seen Anthony in action for the past 20 years and he has always delivered on progressive policies,

whether that’s delivering a policy to tackle climate change when he was Opposition Spokesperson, record investment in roads and infrastructure or unheard of putting federal money into public transport,” he said. “He has always delivered
progressive policy for this country and I’m confident that if he becomes the Leader of the Opposition, and eventually Prime Minister, that he will keep that up.” Member-elect for Newcastle, Ms Claydon, said while Mr Shorten had given Australians a “tremendous
gift” in delivering the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Mr Albanese’s understanding of regions won her vote. Mr Albanese said the party must learn from the errors of recent years and unite behind whoever is elected leader.

Get behind Benny’s boys in the push to the premiership
H
ow good was it? Knocking out the defending premiers on their home turf. Seeing Smith, Slater and Cronk stunned as their season came to an abrupt end. The good old days of the Sid Fogg’s coach convoy down the F3 or M1 (or whatever the heck it’s called these days) will be revived and the boys will certainly have plenty of support as they chase their first grand final appearance since 2001. All year the experts had written and spoken about the top-four sides – Sydney Roosters, South Sydney, Melbourne and Manly – as being the only hopes of winning this year’s premiership, but all the while the Knights were quietly establishing themselves in the top eight. As coach Wayne Bennett said in a post-match interview, there is real belief in this side. How many times have we seen Melbourne’s “Big Three” pull a match out of the fire in the last few minutes for the Storm and Queensland? I must admit to expecting it to happen again on Saturday night when the gap was narrowed to 18-16 with 14 minutes to play.

approached by strangers in public. Without exaggeration, there is at least one report of this occurring somewhere in the Sydney or Hunter region every day. Thankfully, the children involved have been alert and aware enough to either refuse to get into a car or to run away and notify a member of the public. So, to all parents, please ensure you know when and where your children are walking and try to have them walking in groups with siblings or friends. Contact the police in all cases, even if you think it may be a relatively minor matter.

The sun-smart message is often neglected during the winter. Winter may prove to be the best time for a full skin check. As most people are covered up during the winter months, this minimises sun exposure to skin lesions and moles. This can allow for better dermoscopy viewing (a distinct magnifying light, which allows a doctor to closely examine spots on the skin). Remember to protect your skin this winter by applying 50+ sunscreen to exposed areas of skin. If you notice a spot on the skin that looks different from the others or is changing, bleeding or itchy, it should be examined by a doctor.

aitland pool owners will soon be held to safety regulations much more strictly, with Council being expected to soon adopt a swimming pool inspection program to comply with recent changes to state government legislation. The crackdown on the enforcement of the Swimming Pools Act 1992 comes off the back of a 2011 recommendation from NSW Deputy State Coroner, Paul McMahon, who conducted the inquest into the July 2010 death of two-yearold Ethan Corless. The Sydney toddler drowned after gaining access to the family pool through a poorly-constructed and non-compliant fence. As a result, all swimming pools must be registered by the end of October, and owners must be able to produce a certificate of compliance from April 2014. These rules include spas and portable pools with a depth greater than 300mm. Owners of unregistered pools could face an on-the-spot fine of $220. East Maitland pool owner, Warwick Garner said that he supports the changes, but less impressed by the fee he would be charged to have his pool inspected, which could be up to $150. “I’m quite happy with the regulations, but I think the fees are just revenue raising – it’s totally unfair. “I reckon it will turn out to be like

placed on the owner. “Any pool should have a responsible adult supervising at all times. I won’t even let my older grandkids in there if I’m not around.

Funding Our Future A SUSTAINABLE COUNCIL FOR A SUSTAINABLE CITY
RATING - WE NEED YOUR INPUT Council is talking with the community about funding the future we want for our city. Without significant change, Council will face a funding shortfall of $92 million over the next ten years. While all sources of Council income and potential savings are being examined, rates revenue will be a major part of the solution.
Enhance and improve services
Deliver reduced services and/or deficit budgets
Increase rates to deliver services as programmed, being 7.25% p/a for seven years. This option would see all services continue, as well as building an indoor 25m pool, construction of ‘The Levee’ and river link building in Central Maitland and upgrades to Maitland Railway Station precinct and surrounds. This would equate to an average increase of $89 per year on the average residential rate.
Increase rates sufficiently to improve or expand 18 key service areas, being 8.95% p/a for seven years. This would include all services and projects as programmed, as well as see new projects and programs initiated in line with community priorities, with a significant boost to road and footpath funding, improved city appearance, new youth facilities, expanded recreational cycleways and more. This would equate to an average increase of $116 per year on the average residential rate.
Increase rates by annual rate peg amount only, being approximately 3% p/a. This would result in deficit budgets and/or cuts to the broad range of council services as well as reductions in the initiatives already programmed. This would equate to an average increase of $35 per year on the average residential rate.

en Ys may have a bad reputation for being tech-obsessed, easily offended by criticism from employers and far too keen to see their careers progress at the speed of sound but effective communication could be the key to employers unlocking better relationships with younger workers. “One of the main concerns that comes from a lot of employers is communication,” said Leesa Somerville, an industry training consultant with the Australian Business Apprenticeships Centre. “Gen Ys can communicate on their mobiles, on Facebook and that sort of thing but when it comes to actually just speaking, communicating face-to-face, there seems to be a barrier. “If it’s a communication problem it can just be a matter of telling them to speak up – it can be that simple. “There are many issues out there and every apprentice is different.” Ms Somerville said it is important to identify and correct issues between apprentices and employers before they get out of hand to ensure young staff stay on to obtain their qualification. Owner of Wallsend Automotive Services, Michelle Budden, said her business had always offered apprenticeships but had encountered the challenges of managing Gen Ys over that 14-year period. “We offered our latest trainee, Cameron

Residents run the rule over council’s spending plans as rate increase looms Melissah Comber
‘W
e want to see how you’re spending our money.’ This is the message rate payers are sending back to Maitland City Council, as community consultation continues on a proposed rate increase of up to 8.95%. After forecasting a $92 million deficit in ten years, Council has been seeking new ways to generate funds, including raising rates to either deliver services as planned, or deliver an enhanced version. Both come with different price tags attached. Land rates are Council’s biggest single source of income, making up almost half of the annual revenue. “Currently, 500 surveys have been completed,” Leah Flint, Executive Manager Corporate Planning and Engagement said. “Council led a series of information sessions across the city over recent weeks. One of the key topics brought up by attendees was ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with growth, along with ensuring the community was aware of the services provided by Council and documenting Council’s performance.” For Woodberry’s Kirryn Hardy, an increase in services aimed at children and a decrease in unnecessary expenditure would be key. “I’m willing to pay $200 or $300 more, because I’m going to start using more

The need to see where the expenditure is going is echoed by Thornton’s Bruce and Cheryl Swan. “We see it as a return on an investment,” Mr Swan explained. “At the moment we don’t see that you’re managing what you’ve got. If you can tell

Bright Pink Lipstick Day is an initiative of Pink Hope, Australia’s only charity designed to inspire women to be proactive and vigilant with their breast and ovarian health. To recognise the day, HVTC hosted its own morning tea where staff donned their brightest pink lipstick. First-year electrical apprentice Ben McDonald did not hesitate to put on some lipstick for the day to help raise awareness and dollars for breast and ovarian cancer.
“I think it’s really important for us guys to have a better understanding about the cancers that affect women. My grandmother was just diagnosed with ovarian cancer and since then it’s made me really aware of how important awareness and prevention is,” Ben said. HVTC Communications Coordinator and event organiser Megan Cunneen said the cause was one very close to the hearts of the whole HVTC family. ‘We’ve all be touched personally by cancer with one of our colleagues currently undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer”. The funds raised will go towards employing an online Genetic Counsellor an important resource especially for women living in rural areas who often have long wait-times to access this service.

One Man’s Journey From Millions of Dollars in Assets to True Wealth
We all have moments in our lives where it feels that everthing that has ever happened has been leading us to the moment where circumstances conspire, so we can finally wake up. Roy McDonald’s life has been one such journey. At a very young age Roy decided he no longer wanted to live in the poverty he’d been born into, he wanted more from life. At 18 he heard a recording of, “The Strangest Secret in the world” and decided he was going to be a millionaire. At the age of 28, some 35 years ago he achieved this. Over the years he multiplied his wealth, teaching others how to do the same, acquired all the things that are society’s model for success, a wife, two beautiful children, a big house
in a prestigious neighborhood, Porsche in the garage, Armani suits in the wardrobe and a pile of assets. Yet something was missing, he was still not happy. Roy asked himself “What else is there?” which led him on a path of self discovery finding the true wealth inside. Since that time, Roy has gone on to write the best selling book “How to turn $1 into $1 Million in seven years or less” and has taught many people how to create true wealth, peace and harmony in their lives, as well as financial freedom. His greatest reward is seeing people implementing what they’ve learnt, creating full, rich lives in all areas, and being all they can be. Abundance in all areas is our absolute birthright. Roy will be speaking at OneLife’s iimpact event at Merewether Golf Club Tuesday evening October 1 (see details below).

MAITLAND MATTERS by Maitland City Council Mayor, Cr Peter Blackmore
Opening the doors to the world of science and technology
L
ast week a number of year six students from across Maitland gathered at St John’s Parish Hall to take part in the University of Newcastle’s Discovery Days. The Discovery Days are coordinated by the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment and allow the kids to explore a variety of principles of science, engineering and technology through hands-on activities. I was invited to the final day of the competition on Thursday and was lucky enough to see the final challenge – what a talent! The capability of our local students always blows me away. These kids are only 11 and 12 years old and the knowledge, logic and creativity they showed was just inspiring. Of course, engineering is so important in our growing cities. Here at Council we have engineers that design and coordinate some of the city’s major infrastructure projects – and this is the same in
every city across the world. Not to mention the engineers that work for private firms and other government-based bodies. There’s certainly a demand for these type of skills and initiatives like the Discovery Days prepare today’s young people to become the leaders of the future. It also gives kids a taste of the tertiary education opportunities here in the Hunter. The University of Newcastle is a world class education provider, offering courses in just about anything someone could want to study. The hands-on nature children experience in Discovery Days is a small glimpse into the exciting opportunities that could await them if they choose to stay in school, study hard and follow a career in science or engineering. There’s certainly more now than in my, or even my children’s era – I can only imagine what it will be like in five to ten years when these children are finishing high school.

Mums’ Cottage: Lending a helping hand in time of need

hen Sister Helen-Anne Johnson was working as a school counselor, she noticed that sometimes the best way to help a child was to help the people around them. “I found that as part of my work with the kids, I was spending a lot of time with their mums,” Sister Helen-Anne said. “I realised over time that the more I helped Mum, the happier and healthier the kids were.” It was from this realisation that Mums’ Cottage was born. The Cottage, which relies on donations
of money, goods and time to run, aims to strengthen mothers and their children by providing educational opportunities, life skills, counseling, respite and social interaction. “A lack of education takes confidence and dignity away,” Sister Helen-Anne explained. “And when the kids go off to school it can often leave mums feeling empty.” Despite only being open for 18 months, the Holmesville centre sees up to 50 people a week and draws from the surrounding suburbs of Edgeworth, Wallsend and Speers Point, and as far away as Mayfield. “Every day here is special because you don’t know who is going to come through the door.” For more information about the services available, call 4953 4105.

ast week I had the dubious pleasure of driving from Sydney to Maitland on a Friday afternoon. At the time I was in my private car and not on police duties. My usual practice when hitting the freeway is drive to exactly the speed limit then hit the cruise control. Due to the heavy traffic and the propensity for drivers to slow, then accelerate then cut in front, this was not an option. Remembering a number of ads that have been on the TV and the radio, the “Don’t Rush” campaign. I decided to try a different tactic. I actually slowed to 105 kph, 5 ks under the speed limit, and did it make a difference. Most traffic just passed me by. I laughed at drivers weaving in and out of traffic to gain a 50m advantage. I did not laugh when overtaken by drivers speaking on mobile phones. I was hoping one of my Highway
Patrol brethren was around the next corner. Alas they were not, but I did see them pulling over a car that had passed me at the speed of light. Driving like Miss Daisy I dawdled along in the left lane, just having to pass the odd truck and caravan. It was an easy trip. No stress, no getting angry at drivers. But here is the punch line, the freeway is about 100km long, so going 5kph under the 110 speed limit made the journey only two and a half minutes slower. (check my mathematics if you like). Speeding remains the biggest single road safety issue on NSW roads. Each year about 700,000 speeding offences are recorded, reflecting the high number of drivers who are prepared to break speed limits. So perhaps when you take your next trip you could try the take 5kph off experiment and see if you really miss that small amount of time.

The secret to staying young may be a secret no longer
efore you go out and spend a lot of money on the latest ‘age defying’ cosmetics, try something that might have a real effect. The University of California team says it has found the first evidence that a strict regime of exercise, diet and meditation can have such an effect. Going on a health kick reverses ageing at the cellular level, researchers say. Experts say the study in Lancet Oncology is intriguing. The research looked at 35 men with prostate cancer. Those who changed their lifestyle had demonstrably younger cells in genetic terms. The researchers saw visible cellular changes in the group of 10 men who switched to a healthy diet and stuck to a recommended timetable of exercise and stress-busting meditation and yoga. The changes related to protective caps at the end of our chromosomes, called telomeres. Their role is to safeguard the end of the chromosome and to prevent the loss of genetic information during cell division. As we age and our cells divide, our
telomeres get shorter - their structural integrity weakens, which can tell cells to stop dividing and die. Researchers have been questioning whether this process might be inevitable or something that could be halted or even reversed. The latest work by Prof Dean Ornish and colleagues suggests telomeres can be lengthened, given the right encouragement. They measured telomere length at the beginning of their study and again after five years. Among the 10 men with lowrisk prostate cancer who made comprehensive lifestyle changes, telomere length increased significantly by an average of 10%. In comparison, telomere length decreased by an average of 3% in the remaining 25 men who were not asked to make any lifestyle changes. Shorter telomeres have been linked with a broad range of age-related diseases, including heart disease, and a variety of cancers. “Our genes, and our telomeres, are a predisposition, but they are not necessarily our fate,” Prof Dean Ornish said.
Simple tips to create an impression at the races this spring
A
longside catching up with friends, having a few drinks and betting on the horses, fashion is the most important and most talked about aspect of the Spring Carnival season. Last weekend I was invited to celebrate a friend’s birthday at Rosehill Gardens for the ‘Golden Rose’ to kick off the spring racing season. The superb weather and electric atmosphere were a recipe for an awesome day, and it was just that. When you took a look around the sea of colour, there were men in suits wearing ties in every colour possible and there were women in the most lovely summer dresses. I chose to go for a simple outfit – a black top and a green, pink, blue and yellow floral skirt with my favourite strappy black heels and a moderately sized feathered flower fascinator, also in black, but I’ll admit picking my outfit wasn’t an easy choice. Going to an event with such a large focus on fashion means that planning an outfit can be a little stressful; but if you have a basic knowledge of the spring
racing trends and what not to do, getting ready can be simple. When planning for a trip to the races, the most important guideline to remember is that the event is based around class – the races are expensive, classy days out so it is important to dress to the occasion. Women should always dress modestly, keeping the dress or skirt close to the knee and covering up any cleavage, and men should wear dressshoes and a tie with nice pants, a belt and suit jacket, if the weather is cool. This season, the up-do is the go-to hairstyle for women and teamed with a brightly coloured fascinator, you can’t go wrong. Wearing a big fascinator can be pretty daunting, especially if you haven’t been to the races before so, if you aren’t keen on going all-out a small flower or feathered piece in your hair will work a treat, which you can get at department stores like Target. The colours to look out for this season are oranges and blues as well as black and white ensembles and whilst florals are a hit for the spring time, geometric prints are also in this season.

March 21 to April 20
The next fortnight is likely to be a highly vulnerable time for you and you need to be careful of being your own worst enemy. You will be feeling highly vulnerable especially at work and will need to be careful of confusion, deceit and uncertainty. Don’t buy into gossip and don’t allow your emotions to control you. Before you jump to conclusions be certain that you have your facts right and then act in a positive way.
TAURUS
april 21 to may 21
Misunderstandings are likely in relationships over the next two weeks and if they are not handled with diplomacy breakups are likely. By considering your lover’s thoughts and ideas rather than just trying to bulldoze them into compliance you can sidestep most issues. Children are likely to be a cause of concern, perhaps one of your off spring is being bullied by an older child at school or elsewhere and needs your help to become more assertive.
GEMINI
may 22 to june 21
When it comes to family and property matters there will be a good deal of confusion and muddle. It’s important to bear this in mind, particularly if you’re buying a home or renovating. Make sure that you aren’t totally ruled by your heart or you could make a major mistake. Listen to your common sense as you are most certainly going to need it. Your mother might upset you but don’t react to this without first thinking things through.
CANCER
june 22 to july 22
The planets suggest that you’ll only damage your own prospects if you insist on sticking in a rut or with one train of thought. You must escape from the mental restrictions you have built around yourself. Among them are the bouts of jealousy or envy which eat you up inside, many of which are based on certain people who would like nothing more than to turn you against someone they want to get at.

Your home and family may begin to resemble a nest of ego maniacs and it will be necessary for you to take a cold but practical approach to certain decisions. Which will mean confronting faults and difficult truths in yourself as well as others. This may bring you some moments of anxiety but, believe it or not, you will ultimately see your confidence flourishing. If you are out and about try not to over indulge in alcohol, especially if driving!

Problems and difficulties are likely regarding certain friendships as some of the people in your life are going to be even more grumpy, stressed out and self absorbed than is usually the case. However, it is not up to you to resolve other people’s problems for them, therefore don’t allow yourself to become overly involved in their issues. It may be necessary for you to step back from the association and give them space.

There could be some almighty blunders on the work front and it will certainly pay to double check everything you are working on so that if this should occur it will be the fault of other people rather than your good self. In fact certain workmates, contacts and colleagues could be disgruntled and uncooperative and because of this the only way to fly is solo. You also need to be careful of making a rod for your own back by overloading your schedule.

Delays and hold ups are likely with travel plans; the car may run out of petrol or break down at the most inconvenient time. The public transport you depend upon may suddenly disappear off the face of the earth and that flight you have booked may be held up indefinitely. Destiny or fate, whatever you like to call it, seems to have been sufficiently unkind lately to leave you wondering if you are the target of a campaign of dirty tricks. But set aside such worries or suspicions as that imagination of yours is running away with you. Events will unfold into something remarkable, so all you basically need is some of that splendid patience and determination and you shouldn’t have any trouble whatsoever!

During the next fortnight you are going to have to put some serious thought into your finances. You need to be prepared for unexpected expenses; also it is important to double check all financial statements, invoices and credit card statements as hidden charges are likely. It is important that you have a conversation with your partner involving your possessions and earnings, this may be uncomfortable but it will also free you from confusion.

ith their hilarious pean to the cookie-cutter nature of modern pop, ‘Four Chord Song’ going absolute gangbusters on You Tube (just shy of 15 million hits at last check), it’s a tough row to hoe to argue that Aussie trio the Axis of Awesome are not the most awesomest comedy band in the world. The song is an acutely-observed pastiche of 38 pop songs that all contain the same basic chord structure (I, V, VI, IV for you music nerds) and while the band knew they had stumbled onto some sonic gold, lead vocalist Jordan Raskopoulos told TE that no-one had any idea the impact the song would have around the world. “When the idea first came to us – it was kind of before the internet really took off as a thing, so the whole idea of going viral just

wasn’t around,” he said. “Since then, our minds have just been consistently blown with how much the song has taken off – I mean we can go to Amsterdam, for example, and have people singing our songs – it’s just fantastic and in a global sense it was always very difficult for Australian comedians to gain exposure overseas.” Since forming as an improve comedy concern while at Sydney Uni, the Axis Of Awesome first hit the national consciousness after a string of rap parody numbers that lampooned the 2007 Federal election. Going from strength to strength, numerous Melbourne Comedy and Edinburgh festival appearances saw their comedy star rise even higher. Their four albums ‘Paper Scissors Rock’, ‘Infinity Rock Explosion’, ‘Animal Vehicle’, ‘The Swimsuit Area’, and ‘Cry Yourself a River’ haven’t hurt matters either. Catch the Axis of Awesome at Wests New Lambton on Sunday, September 29 with their awesomeness.

Kumho shod single-seater has demonstrated how grip and handling can outweigh brute power by setting the second fastest time ever around the famed Top Gear track in England. The 540kg BAC Mono put cars like the Lambhorghini Avendator and McLaren MP4-12C to shame completing the 2.8 kilometre lap in 1min14.3secs - beaten only by the twice as powerful Pagani Huayra, which was just 5 tenths of a second faster. Powered by a naturally aspirated Cosworth 2.8 litre four cylinder engine the Mono boasts peak power of 205kW and is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. Kumho’s street legal V700 (V70A) competition tyre has been selected as original equipment and is the ideal compliment to the Mono’s adjustable double wishbone suspension to ensure optimum contact with the track is maintained. According to Kumho Tyre Australia, national training and marking manager, David Basha, the BAC Mono’s outstanding result reinforces the relationship between handling and speed.
“Power means nothing if you can’t get it to the ground,” said David Basha. “The BAC Mono is a light and nimble car and it’s able to carry more speed through turns than some of the most powerful supercars in the world because of its handling capabilities. “The V70A is designed to handle high speed cornering and provide traction for the best drive out of slow corners, which is why it is a perfect match for the Mono.” The V70A, is a favoured choice of motor sport competitors, and is available in sizes from 13 to 18 inch with four compounds - super soft, soft, medium and hard. The V70A is also original equipment on Mini’s fastest production car - the John Cooper Works GP. Kumho’s motor sport development plays an important role in research and development for everyday passenger vehicles. “The advancements Kumho makes on the track filter through to our everyday passenger car tyres,” added David. “It’s the everyday motorist that’s the real winner from Kumho’s motor sport involvement.”

RMA Insurance is calling for NSW drivers to focus on the road while driving, with one in four (27 per cent) still using their mobile phone while at the wheel. The survey of 500 NSW drivers also revealed that 91 per cent are texting and reading emails; 50 per cent are updating their Facebook status or tweeting; 22 per cent are posting photos in Instagram; 50 per cent are playing games; and 76 per cent are taking photos. NRMA Insurance spokesperson Tracy Woodley said the results are concerning as drivers are still ignoring safety warnings.
“All too often we see drivers running the risk and talking on their mobile phone or glancing down to write or a read a text message, putting their lives, other drivers and pedestrians at risk,” she said. “We understand everyone leads busy lives and social media is handy to stay connected with friends and family, however drivers shouldn’t risk the worst happening for the sake of a status update, tweet or photo post.” Ms Woodley added losing focus while behind the wheel, even if it’s only for a split second, may cause a driver to have a collision and endanger the lives of others on the road.

T
he Knights head into Saturday night’s preliminary final against the Sydney Roosters seeking to become just the second team in history to qualify for the grand final from seventh or eighth position. Jarryd Hayne’s mercurial run of form took Parramatta to the 2009 decider from eighth, with most sides finding the task beyond them in winning three successive knockout matches. Despite not being considered a serious premiership threat by the majority of league pundits, Newcastle have been quite consistent this year, only being out of the top eight for three rounds in the middle of the season and are peaking at the right time. The Knights appeared to escape the thrilling win over the Storm relatively injury-free, with halfback Tyrone Roberts hoping to be cleared of damage to his knee after slipping awkwardly late in the match. The Roosters present a different challenge to the Storm, with their class players spread more widely across the field than Melbourne’s “Big Three” of Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk. Although the match is being played at the Roosters’ home ground, there is every chance of the Knights having at least equal representation in crowd numbers.
The Knights are enjoying their late-season success
