orrowing a book from your local library is now as easy popping into your local supermarket, with Cardiff Library now located in Cardiff Shopping Centre. The new library on the ground floor of the shopping complex gives borrowers access to modern technologies, including free wi-fi, e-readers and charging stations, as well as a wide selection of books and kids programs. Officially opening the library last Tuesday, Lake Macquarie Mayor, Jodie Harrison praised the level of technology available to the public at the new branch. “I must confess, when I was in primary school I wanted to be a librarian,” she said. “I never thought I would be standing here opening a library with computers, internet, e-readers, tablets, 3D printers, mobile phone chargers, like we have right here in Cardiff.” Cr Harrison hoped the library’s centralised location in Cardiff Shopping Centre would draw new users to the facility. “Cardiff library has been open for 57 years and in that time there have been millions of loans – at least one million in the last 10 years alone,” she said. “With a space like this, those numbers can only continue to grow.” Cardiff resident, Vince Pollock, who has been borrowing books from the Cardiff Library since 1949, was pleased that the library had been moved

Lake Macquarie City Council manager cultural services, Narelle Reichert and Mayor, Jodie Harrison take in the new selection of books and e-books on offer at the new Cardiff Library from its previous location at the top of the hill on Main Road. “I visit the library at least once a week with my wife, Ruth, to borrow new books and have a chat

to the pleasant staff at the library,” he said. “I have been looking forward to the opening of the new library as I believe it is in a better location for the community to access.”
