he sacks are being packed, the reindeer are carb-loading and Santa is gearing up for the biggest day of his year, but before he embarks on his long-haul trip he has to do a dry run, and last week stopped over in Newcastle as he planned out his route. Although he was busy, he took some time to tell the Post about some of the surprises Newcastle kids can expect on December 25, saying that have been some very well-behaved children who will be very happy when they open their gifts. “I think some of the local kids will be very surprised,” he said, his luxurious white beard bouncing as he chuckled. “In fact, some of them might do a little better than they were expecting, which is what happens when you’ve been very good all year. “There’s a little boy in Adamstown who asked for the Frozen movie, but he’s done a very good job of keeping his room tidy all year, so he’ll be getting an Elsa doll as well.” Along with Frozen, Santa said that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Lego have also proved to be very popular this year. However, Santa said that a little girl in New Lambton had been fighting with her brother a lot, so she might miss out. “Fighting with your brother or sister isn’t a very nice thing to do,” he said. “I also don’t like when children don’t use their manners.

Santa took a break in Honeysuckle “They must remember to say ‘please’ and ‘thankyou’.” Not all is lost though, with Santa also saying that there was still time to get back onto the nice list. “There was a girl in Mayfield who just this morning helped a man who dropped his shopping, so she’s gotten back on to the ‘nice’ list,” he said. “There is still time for the naughty children, but the later they leave it the better behaved they have to be.”

Santa had a word of advice for how to get onto the ‘nice’ list. “I always say to treat other people the way you would like to be treated,” he said. “If you wouldn’t someone doing something mean to you, then don’t do it to them. “Also, you need to go to sleep nice and early on Christmas Eve, because if you’re awake when I come to your house, I won’t be able to stop.”
