ustice, family and community - the three pillars of Senior Constable Tony Tamplin's life that will forever be remembered in the new Tony Tamplin Memorial Garden. Opening the memorial garden on Monday, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione remembered Senior Constable Tamplin asa joyous and reassuring constant in the lives of many Hunter residents. "From his columns in the local newspaper, a familiar face on television and a comforting voice on the radio," he said. "He has been descnbed as one of the most loved coppers in the history of the NSW Police Force." The garden, located outside Newcastle Police Station on Watt Street, features three pillars etched with the words, justice, family and community, representing three facets of Senior Constable Tamplin'slife. Newcastle Local Area commander Superintendent John Gralton said it was apt thata man who was part of the landscape of Newcastle should be remembered through a garden. Senior Constable Tamplin's widow Sonia Tamplin said her late husband would have been "quite chuffed" to see a garden established in his memory, outside what she said was his second home. "Tony absolutely loved working at Newcastle Police Station and he did so for over 30 years," she told the Post. "The fact that Tony and 1 both worked here

together, where our friendship first formed, makes this location extremely special to me - it's perfect." Mrs Tamplin encouraged members of the public to stop by the garden and have a chat with the late Senior Constable. "I believe Tony's spirit is still all around us so I'd encourage anyone who visits Tony's memo-

rial garden to have a bit of a chat to him. I'm sure he's so sick of constantly hearing my voice that he would really appreciate a few fresh voices," she joked. The unveiling of the Tony Tamplin Memorial Garden comes just a month after the renaming of training room at Newcastle Police Station in the beloved policeman's honour.
