Anger at new railway bridge OFFICIAL complaints are to be lodged by Bognor Regis residents about a new footbridge near their homes. THe homeowners in Ivy Lane will be submitting their protests to Arun District Council over its handling of the plans for the bridge. THe council raised no objection to Network Rail’s plans when they were revealed some two years ago. THis enabled the railway infrastructure

owner to continue with its proposals to replace the current outdated bridge. But the residents claim the plans will devastate their lives. THe bridge, they claim, will wreck the privacy of some properties and wipe tens of thousands of pounds off the value of their homes. One of the protesters, Andrew Goodwill, alleged: “THere is nothing we can do to stop the bridge. THe only thing we can do is to complain that Arun made

the wrong decision. “People have invested their money into their houses. THey will lose some of that money because of the council’s decision and people can see into their houses from the new bridge. THat has reduced their value, even if they can then sell them.” THe council has a three-step complaints procedure. THe first stage sees the complaint investigated by

the department which made the original decision. THis is followed by an investigation led by another department of the council. If complainants are still unhappy, they can ask the Local Government Ombudsman to look into the matter. It was in June 2017 Network Rail submitted its prior notification plans to Arun.
