New cameras to protect town CCTV cameras around Bognor Regis have become the first in Sussex to be upgraded.

THe 13 eyes in the sky have been switched from the old analogue cameras to live screening in high definition quality. THe Arun district has become the initial local authority across East and West Sussex to benefit from the upgrade.

It has been jointly funded with £49,000 from Arun District Council and £15,000

from the Sussex Arun Partnership.

Cllr Mike Clayden, the council's cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: "We are proud to pioneer this new technology within Sussex.

"It will support the excellent work that our community safety and anti-social behaviour team do on a daily basis to keep our communities safe."

District, also welcomed the improvement in a bid to tackle crime around the town centre and along the seafront.

"THe new CCTV cameras are a welcome addition to the progression of the Bognor Regis regeneration plans," he said.

"THis will go some way to increase reassurance for local residents visiting the town of the safety to themselves and their possessions."

THe original cameras were installed

in Bognor Regis in the mid-1990s after a campaign by businesses in Bognor who had been suffering from a rash of vandalism and crime.

THose in Felpham were put in soon afterwards to increase the range of coverage.

Peter recalls his childhood in town HALYCON days in Bognor Regis have been recaptured in a new book by an internationally known author.

Peter Marshall has turned his attention away from philosophy, history and anarchism to recalling his early years.

Many of those were based around Stocker Road - packed with hotels – in a seaside town basking in its holiday success of the post-Second World War era.

Peter, 72, said: “I grew up in Bognor Regis in its heyday, just after the war, and I was very fortunate to do that. I have a lot of good memories of those days. I used to go fishing with my brother in a boat.”

His latest book, Bognor Boy – How I Became An Anarchist, has gained rave reviews for its account of how he developed his vision of radical and peaceful change.

Emeritus professor, philosopher and author John Clark says: “It is propitious that Peter Marshall’s Bognor Boy appears at the 50th anniversary of the momentous revolutionary year of 1968.

“THe book is valuable for many reasons, but not least of all as a major document of the generation of 68 and its living legacy. It is an important work, not only of biography, but of social history.

“It has a rich sense of time and place, and paints a vivid picture not only of Bognor, but of the culture of post-war England, continuing through the 60s.”

Bognor Boy details the first 24 years of Peter’s life from 1946. He was born in a nursing home in Nyewood Lane and lived with his mother and father, Vera, and brother, Michael, in Stocker Road.

His father, Bill, had been an RAF pilot and became a jockey and horse trainer.

THis was mainly in a house which Vera’s parents had built a few doors along from in the Bridport Hotel they ran and where Peter and his family also lived.

Peter writes about his life there: “We were materially well off in Chideok, 10 Stocker Road… It had well-furnished rooms on three floors, a large garden and middleclass aspirations. But we were culturally poor. We had no library.”

His father walked out in 1949 and Peter went to a private school in Victoria Drive aged five and was later sent to a boarding school in Steyning. Its teachers tried to get him to conform but, after a year training in London as a purser cadet he travelled the world in the Merchant Navy.

Teaching English in Senegal followed and he returned to England as the ‘swinging sixties’ were well underway. He took a degree in French, English and Spanish and began to develop his radical views.

He taught at universities and has lived in North Wales and now Devon.

He has written 16 books, of which two have been chosen as books of the year in their subjects, and translated into 15 languages. His circumnavigation of Africa was made into a British TV series and an Italian TV series was based on his book on alchemy. His voyage around Ireland became a British radio series.

He has a doctorate in the History of Ideas and is an elected fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Bognor Boy (ISBN: 978-0951106976) is priced £10.

Foodbank asks shoppers for donations for festive meals CUSTOMERS at the Tesco store in Bognor Regis are being asked to put a little extra in their baskets for those in need this Christmas.

THe Shripney Road outlet is taking part in the annual collection for the town's foodbank.

THe foodbank's helpers are present during this weekend to receive donations for emergency food parcels for families and individuals.

Donations by the public will be topped up by 20 per cent by Tesco.

THe foodbank is part of the network run by the Trussell Trust. Its chief executive, Emma Revie, said:

"Foodbanks across the country will be doing all they can to provide the best possible emergency support so people don't go hungry.

"But, to make sure we're prepared for what could be our busiest December yet, our network needs your support.

"During every food collection, we've been humbled by the staggering generosity of Tesco customers, store colleagues and volunteers."

Tesco UK and Ireland chief executive Jason Tarry said: "We know the items our customers donate can make a real difference to people who really need that little bit of extra help this year."

f Harry Venning stages his comedy masterclass SITCOM creator Harry Venning has passed on some tips to aspiring Bognor Regis writers.

Harry is one of the co-writers of the popular BBC Radio 4 series, Clare in the Community. He is writing its 12th and last set of episodes to be broadcast next year.

THe escapades of the social worker who is wracked with guilt about being white, middle-class and heterosexual is a comic creation which has become the longestrunning current sitcom on BBC radio. It is also a weekly cartoon in The Guardian.

Harry's masterclass in mirth dealt with trying to replicate his success to delight members of the Bognor Institute of Laughter at its latest session this week.

He said: "You have to think a sitcom is like a play - but a play which is driven by jokes.

"You focus on a character who people

will want to spend 30 minutes with. THey can be nice, horrible, famous, bonkers - it doesn't matter.

"THen you put them in ordinary situations and find out what happens."

He cited John Cleese's Basily Fawlty in Fawlty Towers as a classic example of a character who reacted in an exaggerated manner to everyday problems.

"THe story is your best friend. I think the biggest pitfall is not having a story," said Harry. "A lot of people sitting around joking does not make a good sitcom."

Among those who wanted to find out the secrets of comedy writing was Bognor Regis resident Lem Griffiths, 54.

"I have written a script for (Bognor Regis online broadcaster) Radio Respect as a spoof of The Artist called The Fallen Artist.

I'd be really happy to have my script broadcast. I hope it will be good enough.

Worthing resident Russ Bravo, 58, said: "I've been running a comedy club in Worthing for 10 years and I'm interested in hearing what Harry has got to say."

Harry's visit came as the institure has begun to establish a base at THe Lamb Inn in Steyne Street from 6pm on Wednesdays after a humorous first year.

Its founder, Hilary Strong, said: "It's been a good year and we staged Bognor Sunshine Today as a spoof TV news show.

But I think we need a sustained period of activity.

"Our numbers have started to increase up to 16 since we began to meet at THe Lamb earlier this month and Radio Respect are very keen to work with us to broadcast our members' work next year."

It was also hoped to establish regular comedy club nights in the town, she added.

Chaplain petition started - see page 5

SHOPPERS at a Pagham store have given efforts to protect it from flooding thousands of pounds.

A cheque from the customers of the Co-op shop in THe Parade has been presented to the chairman of the Pagham Flood Defence Trust.

THe £3,927.76 was part of the one per cent donation to good causes in the community around the shop which the customers chose to donate from their purchases of Co-op goods since it opened last November.

THe Rev Mark Eminson, the trust's chairman, received the cheque from the store's team leader, Lin Jewson.

THe money will add to the some £300,000 which has been accumulated by the trust from donations from residents and fund-raising events in about two years.

Mr Eminson said: "THis is such a community effort. It is wonderful for the Co-op to donate part of its profits to a good cause like ours.

"THe money will be a great help to the trust's funds. THe coast protection work for Pagham has not started yet but we need to have the money ready for when the the green light is given and the government asks for money from the community to help to pay for it."

THe trust is safeguarding the funds, while Pagham Parish Council and other volunteers negotiate the best scheme to protect the beach.

Much of the preparation is being carried out by a coastal issues group.

"THere are new options to look at as

well as the cut the spit scheme which has been given planning permission," said Mr Emerson.

"I'm not sure there is a clear-cut solution as far as nature is concerned.

"We have to get the timing right and the policy right. When the time comes, we want a scheme which is going to last and not be washed away by the next tide.

"THe beach is our line of defence against the sea. It really does affect us all in this area."

Allen Miller, one of the trustees, said: "THere is a lot of work to be done. Pagham beach has been almost devastated by the waves as a result of the spit that grew. THis money will be an enormous help."

THe Co-op store, in the former King's Beach Hotel, replaced a much smaller outlet a few doors to the north.

Mrs Jewson said: "Our first year here has gone really well and we are pleased to donate this money.

"It is an absolutely fantastic amount to have raised. I don't think people realise how important it is to join the Co-op for £1 if they shop here. By doing that, they help a range of good causes."

THe store chose to promote the trust and Pagham Ponies and Horses - which received £3,845.08 for its work looking after unwanted horses - out of the range of organisations for which customers have raised money.

THis has enabled the groups to have a presence in the store at times. THe Aldingbourne Trust has also benefited from the store's charitable efforts.

` 'Assault' arrest A 33-YEAR-OLD man from Bognor Regis has been arrested on suspicion of grevious bodily harm with intent.

He has been released by police while under investigation. Officers are continuing to look into an alleged incident where a man was assaulted at his home.

THe victim, who is in his 30s, and another man were said to have had a verbal and physical altercation at a property in Hawthorn Road around 7.30pm on Sunday.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "THe victim suffered serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, injuries."

Housing - 'it will get worse' COUNTRYSIDE campaigners have warned Pagham area residents the worse is yet to come.

Two major planning applications for 680 homes on two sites in the village have been approved by Arun District Council. Another for 300 homes has been deferred for further studies.

But Michael Warden, chairman of the Campaign to Protect Rural England's Arun group, said even more housing was on its way.

"THe village of Pagham and surrounding parishes, together with all other parishes in the district which are having unachieveable numbers of housing thrust upon them by an ill-advised and out of touch government, will not be able to cope with the volume of traffic generated by these developments.

"THere is no provision for meaningful long-term economic growth, only shortterm gain while construction takes place.

"THe bigger blow to come is an application that will be forthcoming before long, which will add even more pressure on local infrastructure at what is known locally at the Chalcraft Lane site for a minimum of 2,500 homes and Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate consortium.

"We all that other services, such as doctors' surgeries, hospitals and schools, to name a few, are under severe pressure and getting worse, with no immediate improvement in sight.

"THe whole area will be like a battlefield, which will be ongoing for much longer

than the plan period (to 2031) as developers control the rate of building, not local authorities nor government, for all their sabre rattling and veiled threats to increase housing."

THis would mean the proposed housing target of 20,000 dwellings would fail to be met by 2031, Mr Warden said.

But, despite all the housing, a large number of residents were still 'forgotten' when it came to being able to buy a property.

THese included adults still living at home with their parents, couples in low paid jobs and homeless people.

Mr Warden said: "A family that only has the minimum or living wage to survive on can never get close to owning their own home and find it difficult at times to find the rents demanded in the district.

"Where are we catering for them?

THe answer is we are not. It is not insurmountable. Action is needed from government level to introduce and finance a social housing programme as has been done in the past and, in my opinion, is the only way that the problem can be tackled."

As well as the gridlocked roads, the effect of the housing would be to cause considerable damage to areas popular with wildlife and increased air pollution.

School places would become harder to obtain close to homes, he said, and doctors' and hospital appointments would also be more difficult to achieve because of the increased number of residents in the area, he added.

Petition call for chaplain HUNDREDS of supporters have backed a petition to save the chaplain at Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital.

THe total of backers of the call stood at 672 yesterday - just four days after the petition was started.

It was begun by Stephen Sampson, the treasurer of the Bognor Regis Friends of the Hospitals, after the hospital's chaplain, the Rev Graham Reeves, was given six months' notice to leave his role, as reported last week.

Mr Sampson states on the petition: "THe Friends strongly believe that the paid chaplain at Bognor hospital must be saved.

"We ask Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust to overturn their decision and commit to keeping the Rev Reeves as permanent paid chaplain at the hospital.

"Graham is very well known at the hospital as someone that everyone can turn to: staff, patients, and their relatives, of any religion and no religion at all.

"Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust have given Graham notice to terminate the contract from May 6, 2019.

"THe trust did not consult any patients, relatives, hospital staff, members of the public, or even Graham himself.

"In fact, the trust has no idea what Graham does and did not bother to ask him before deciding to get rid of him."

Mr Reeves has filled the role at the Shripney Road hospital for 21 years and is contracted for 1.5 hours a week.

"After May 6, 2019, there will be no paid

chaplain at Bognor Hospital. Instead, the trust hope that a new chaplain manager in Brighton can find unpaid volunteers to make up for the loss of Graham.

"THe chaplain manager will be paid for by cutting all the paid chaplains across the whole trust.

"No money will be saved overall, as the chaplain manager is expected to cost more than all the paid chaplains put together," said Mr Sampson.

THis could mean patients being left without a familiar face towards the end of their lives and relatives being without a trained, experienced and friendly ear to turn to when a loved one is ill or dying.

THe petition is online at change.org.

THose who have backed it include Sally Manning. She wrote: "People get very distressed in hospital and it is vital that there is someone who is trusted with whom you can seek comfort and is fully trained to provide such support."

Susan Butler stated: "It is important that patients and relatives have the support of the chaplain. It is a disgrace to even contemplate doing this."

Mr Sampson said a paper petition is available at the hospital's renal unit. But his attempt to put copies elsewhere in the hospital saw them taken away.

THe trust said it was modernising its chaplaincy service next April. THe aim was to provide a trust-run service to provide a more consistent and comprehensive approach and replace the current provision which differed between hospitals.

THe band have achieved chart successes during their 50-year career and their enduring appeal sees their concerts continue to sell out.

THeir most well-known songs include Meet Me On The Corner and Fog on the Tyne. Tickets for the 2019 festival from September 19 to 22 go on sale today.

Council leader's medal SENIOR Aldwick councillor Gillian Brown has received her OBE at Buckingham Palace.

Mrs Brown, the leader of Arun District Council, was awarded the honour for her services to local government and the community in West Sussex.

She was presented with the OBE by Prince Charles last week in a ceremony attended by other guests and dignitaries.

Cllr Mrs Brown said: "I was both thrilled and honoured to have been awarded an OBE for my service as a councillor for the past 27 years.

"It was a huge privilege to go to Buckingham Palace for my investiture with the Prince of Wales last Wednesday and it is a memory I shall treasure for ever."

Cllr Mrs Brown, who is a Conservative member for Aldwick East, has led Arun for 12 of her 27 years as a district councillor.

Her experience and influence extends to local government matters beyond the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton areas.

She has been a board member of the District

Council Network since its inception in 2006 and she speaks on planning matters on behalf of the country's 210 district councils.

She has also been a long-serving member of the Local Government Association (LGA) and has served on many of its committees and boards.

Cllr Mrs Brown is a current member of the councillors' forum and the LGA's people and places board.

Her roles also include being an active member of the South East England Council.

More locally, Cllrs Mrs Brown jointly founded the Aldwick Preservation Society in 1978 and became its first treasurer.

She continues to support the charity and champions the maintenance and improvement of the environment in Aldwick.

THe society looks after the Aldwick Duck Pond on Aldwick Road.

Its formation by residents arose after a planned road improvement scheme threatened the future of the duck pond.

In Felpham, two of the cameras are sited around the exterior of the Butlin's site and the other is at Sea Road/Upper Bognor Road.

THe latest versions of the cameras should deter anti-social behaviour and crime and reduce repair costs.

Sussex Police assistant chief constable Steve Barry said: "THis system, which provides live footage in high definition, enables us to monitor situations from the click of a button.

"THis modern technology is invaluable as it frees up our officers to attend incidents where the threat, risk or harm is the greatest, ensuring we have a better opportunity to catch criminals, and keep the public safe and feeling safe."

Bognor Regis town centre is divided evenly between the Marine and Hotham wards.

THe latest crime figures from Sussex Police, in the year to last September 30, show Marine ward had 337 reported incidents of public place violent crime - an increase of 90 on the previous year.

In Hotham ward, the number of incidents increased by 50 in the same period to 220.

Overall, reported crime in the year was down by 45 incidents in Marine to 1,055 and up by 145 to 769 in Hotham.

Marine suffered from the most reported crime in the Arun district.

Precinct stall is approved CLOTHES trader Jharnel Singh Landa has been backed to set up a market stall in Bognor Regis town centre.

Mr Landa was given the go-ahead for the first business of its type in the London Road precinct.

Arun District Council's licensing subcommittee approved his application for a street trading consent throughout the week in spite of opposition from two of their councillors and their regeneration officers. THey wanted the Bognor Regis Business Improvement District's board to control street trading.

After the meeting, Mr Landa said the decision showed the council was willing to support entrepreneurs.

"I am happy. I don't know when we will start the stall. We want to get it right before we go ahead.

"We want to deliver what we have promised to councillors and make sure it's all as they expect."

THe stall, which will be a gazebo in two 3m X 3m sections, will sell Italian fashions in silk and linen in the summer.

Wool will be sold in the winter.

Mr Landa will be employing a new person from Bognor Regis for the stall.

He and his father have run a clothes business alongside the precinct for three years in the space between Greggs and Burton.

But Mr Landa told the councillors last Friday the location lacked the high profile necessary to attract casual customers to look around.

He and his father were allowed by the former Bognor Regis town centre manager, Toyubur Rahman, to open the

extra stall last summer.

But the departure of Mr Rahman after the Bognor Regis Business Improvement District (BID) took over meant he had to apply again for the position.

"Business is becoming difficult with the current climate in the high street.

It's just going down and down this year.

"THe reason we are going for this second stall is that thousands of people walk along the precinct but they have a one-track mind," he said.

"THey just walk and walk. THey don't look left and they don't look right.

"But, when they saw something in the middle of the precinct, they would approach us and say they had been going down there all day but didn't notice us before."

Mr Landa said he wanted to build up the business in the keeping of businesses such as Marks and Spencer and Sir Alan Sugar, who started on market stalls.

He pledged to work with the BID team around any events it organised for the precinct.

"We will co-operate with them and the events they hold. We will be controlled by the BID. "But I think you should give people the opportunity to expand their business," he said.

He added: "We can't afford to go into a shop, but we will build slowly to be able to go into one.

"If we can't make our business a success, the space will become empty again and you will get fly tipping like there used to be."

Lack of lights means users of town path struggle to use it SHOPPERS being left in the dark in Bognor Regis town centre have been told action was being taken.

THe path between Queensway and Bedford Street is in pitch blackness as winter gets underway. THe route, beside Morrisons and the Fitzleet multi-storey car park, is a popular shortcut for hundreds of pedestrians a day.

One of them, Derick Bhupsingh, said: "You can barely see where you are going.

You don't feel safe going down there because it is so dark. You see people putting their phones on as they walk along there but that's not sufficient."

Mr Bhupsingh, of Cavendish Road,

said the situation was becoming worse as it became darker earlier but the SIX lights had been broken for about two months. THey are fixed to the wall of the car park's exit ramp.

THe path is owned by Arun District Council. A spokeswoman said it believed the lights had been vandalised.

"Since the issue was raised, the council has instructed a firm of electricians to identify the cause of the problem so that a suitable, and permanent, remedy can be found," she said.

It was hoped this would take place soon, Until then, temporary lighting had been put up on an adjacent shop.

Mr Wells said approving the consent would enable the BID to control the trading which took place around the town centre.

"What we don't want is to have a situation where we have ad hoc stalls coming in and applying for licences," he said.

"I know Arun is very proactive in protecting our town centre image. So, we don't want a great swathe of stalls down the precinct we have got no control over.

"Once they get started, there's no governance over the quality or what is done there."

THe application covers a range of goods such as clothing, electrical goods, soft furnishings, giftware and food.

It is a repeat of the consent which was given by Arun to Toyubur Rahman, the former Bognor Regis town centre manager, about two years ago.

THe town's business improvement district board has been given street trading consent for a range of attractions.

THe decision paves the way for a return of the popular street events of recent years. Most of the new activities will take place in the London Road precinct.

But the High Street, Little High Street and Place St Maur have also been included in the permission. THe consent covers the hours of 8am-11pm every day.

BID board chairman Paul Wells told Arun District Council's licensing subcommittee last Friday the markets would be an important part of its work to boost the town centre's image and footfall to help its shops.

` Plan for kennels KENNELS are proposed for a Middleton farm's empty building.

Rookery Farm has applied for planning permission to set up Farmyard Fidos at the site on the north side of Flansham Lane.

Its planning agent, Elizabeth Lawrence, says in a statement: "THe proposal is to convert the existing building and add a lean-to side extension to provide 15 kennels and associated runs, an indoor play area, grooming parlour and associated administration facilities. Play shows pupils how to stay safe STAYING alive while you drive was the story behind a hard-hitting production seen by Felpham Community College students.

THe one-hour drama focused on two 18-year-olds in love and who drove from a party to a seemingly inevitable fate.

With audience participation, the Box Clever actors re-enacted the scene to show how matters could have been different if only the passenger had made the drive safer.

One of the Year 11 students, Jessica Bulpett-Caynes, who watched the play, said: "It was the best road safety workshop we have attended as it had a good balance between fact and entertainment."

Anna Basley, another of the Year 11 students present, said: "It was good to watch and definitely made us think

about making the right choices to stay safe on the roads."

Joining the audience for the play was the latest stage in a series of workshops across year groups at the college to remind students of the importance of staying alert when walking and cycling.

For older students, the message was adapted to include driving and being passengers.

Yasmin Tetra, the college's curriculum leader for citizenship, said: "We work hard at the college to provide a balanced curriculum which covers life skills as well as the school syllabus.

"THis term has been particularly busy looking at road safety.

"Evenings are getting darker and the weather can be an issue so it is a good time to remind students of how important it is to stay safe on the roads."

Appeal is best yet at college A RECORD number of boxes of love have been collected at Felpham Community College.

More than 40 of the containers were filled by its students for the latest Christmas appeal held by Link for Hope.

THe charity was established in 1991 and the college has supported it for many years.

A variety of items like screwdrivers, reading glasses, toiletries, sweets and chocolates, hats and scarves and colouring books were donated.

Sixth form student Megan Balcombe, who is the college's head of charity, said: "We encouraged students to bring in one or two items each and fill a shoe box

between a class.

"THat way, lots of people were able to make a small contribution which all together can make a big difference.

"Our charity committee helped sort and wrap all the boxes and it was great to see how full and exciting we managed to get them all."

Acting deputy headteacher Michelle Kelly said: "We support the shoe box appeal every winter as we encourage our students to help others less fortunate, especially at this time of year."

Link to Hope is a Christian charity which re-builds lives and communities in eastern Europe through education and social care.

Christmas lights to shine in town to provide cheer for years to come HUNDREDS of people shrugged off the rain to watch the Christmas lights sparkle above Bognor Regis again.

Some 250 spectators gathered at the junction of the High Street and London Road precinct for the annual switch-on.

THe occasion consisted of the colourful displays being turned on elsewhere after the bad weather had caused the planned ceremony to be cancelled.

THe stars of Cinderella at the Regis Centre were unable to attend because their costumes would have been ruined by the wet conditions.

But the lack of an official countdown failed to deter onlookers from gathering in the light rain to cheer as the coloured lighting burst into life just after the 5.30pm scheduled time.

THe lights are set to continue twinkling well into the next decade. Bognor Regis Town Council has agreed to fund new displays for the three years from 2019.

THey will spend ÂŁ31,500 next year on the lighting with a new contractor, THe Festive Lighting Company, after the current deal ends.

At a meeting, councillors were told by their deputy clerk, Sarah Norman: "THe current contractor, who has historically supplied the lights at a significantly low cost, chose not to tender for the contract this time.

"THis means that the required budget for the Christmas displays has noticeable increased."

THe costs include the expense of the new displays and the installation of the

infrastructure to support them.

It also makes allowances for additional works that may be required for call-outs as a result of bad weather.

"THe costs for the annual contract at the current time are ÂŁ15,000 for provision, maintenance and installation, which are substantially lower than those quoted above," said Mrs Norman.

THe budgets for the following two years of the displays will be decided by councillors during 2019 and 2020.

THe displays will continue to be installed along the London Road precinct, High Street, York Road and the Station Road/ London Road junction.

Lighting is also installed in Aldwick Road, Little High Street, Norfolk Street, Queensway and on the town hall balcony as well as two 25ft Christmas trees outside the railway station and the William Hardwicke pub.

Among those at last Saturday's switchon was Bognor Regis resident Jon Robbins, 29, with his wife, Becky, 28, and their children, Jude, four, and Caleb, two.

He said: "It makes everyone feel a little bit more Christmassy to see the lights.

"THis is the first time we have come down to the switch-on. We wanted to get in the Christmas spirit.

"I'm pleased the town council has agreed to pay for the lights for another three years. We don't want to do what Chichester did a few years ago and not have any."

Poor weather saw outdoor entertainment switched to the railway station concourse.

Santa's grotto was still a sell-out with all its 250 slots eagerly snapped up as parents and their children patiently waited for their time with the special visitor.

THe winter fairy contact juggler, Malcolm the Magician and LED glow performers delighted them in the dry.

Kirsten Fitzpatrick, the town council's events officer, said: "I made the decision to move the entertainment based on the weather forecast on Friday, which showed a 97 per cent chance of heavy rain. THe rain was not as bad as expected but I can only go on the forecast.

"I wanted to make the decision early because I thought it was preferable that people knew what has happening.

"THe lantern parade had to be cancelled because the horse-drawn carriage is completely open and the panto performers and their costumes would have been soaked.

"A big thank you to Southern Rail. THey bent over backwards to help me.

"Without them, the grotto and entertainers would not have happened. THere is no other comparable undercover place in the town we could have used."

Santa is ready to grant kids' wishes A MAGICAL day was in store for everyone visiting Brick Kiln Garden Centre on Saturday with the grand arrival of Father Christmas and the opening of Santa’s Grotto.

The garden centre, situated on the Bognor Road to Chichester, was transformed into a spectacular Christmas delight as Santa arrived in the car park to be greeted by lots of excited children.

What everyone went there to see was, of course, Father Christmas, who was guided into his enchanting grotto by his three elves.

Event organiser Lorrayne Mendes said: "This is an event we look forward to all year. We spend so much time building and decorating the grotto and planning the event so it’s really rewarding to see the children enjoy the day. For people who haven’t been able to make it to the opening, the grotto is open every weekend until Christmas Eve so call the garden centre to book your ticket."

Not only is the grotto open every weekend, Brick Kiln are also hosting tea and breakfast with Santa and several choirs are performing Christmas carols over the festive season.

Plenty of festive cheer ahead LATE night shopping in Bognor Regis next month will provide extra chances to buy Christmas presents.

Shops such as Reynolds, Wilko, Polka Dot Stripes, Unique Promotions and Kids Stuff Toys will be staying open on the next three THursday evenings.

Many of the bars and restaurants in the area will be putting on special offers and promotions too - to enable shoppers to stay longer and have some fun among the festive buying.

THose taking part with discounts on food and drink include Johnny's Chicken, Rainbows and Fusion.

Entertainment will also be staged each night to add extra sparkle to the occasions.

Bognor Regis Business Improvement District chairman Paul Wells said the nights promised to be the best the town centre had seen in run-up to Christmas.

"For our first Christmas as a BID, we set out to well and truly bring the festive spirit to the town centre.

"We have lined up a range of offers and entertainers for shoppers of all agees to enjoy as they support our shops.

"We hope everyone visits the town centre during the next few weeks to have a good time, buy some bargains and get into the Christmas mood."

THe BID members have organised the nights for their first Christmas in charge of town centre activities after businesses backed their plans to impose a levy on their premises in return for initiatives to boost the shopping area.

THe late nights will take place from 4pm-7pm on the next three THursdays in the London Road precinct.

Next week sees THe Light Gliders stage street performances with their

illuminated costumes.

THey will spin elegantly into view, full of mischief and grace, glowing like lanterns and whizzing around the town centre.

December 13 will see two angels visit the precinct on a mission to bring extra twinkle to the town.

With their long, golden locks, neon halos, silly trumpets and absurd humour, they will be practising their flying skills and bringing joy wherever they go.

Singer Rhia-Cherie, from the University of Chichester, will also be entertaining with her voice which has proved to be a sensation on social media.

Rhia-Cherie will return on December 20. Music of a different kind will also be on offer. Comedy dance moves, facial distortions, crazy sound effects and many styles of music and hilarious banter will see Musical Ruth and THe Amazing Magical Mobile Tour on a unique and crazy tour around the shopping area.

THere are plenty of other attractions as well in the next month to help the town's traders entice shoppers to visit and stay while they do their shopping.

Live character hunts to search for 20 real-life characters will be staged from 11am-4pm on December 8 and 23.

Ice People and their magical juggling skills will be astounding audiences with their juggling skills from 11am-2pm on December 9.

A big band will also be performing some classic tunes from 10.30am-midday that day with plenty more delights to follow. * THe Hotham Park Model Railway will again be running its Santa Express trains from 10.30am-3.30pm on December 8, 15 and 22.

Popular lantern fun WELL over 100 children created their own decorations in Bognor Regis.

THe packed turnout ensured the willow lantern workshop held by the town council as part of its Christmas celebrations was packed.

THe event's success saw one of the Regis Centre's studios full throughout last Saturday with seasonal creativity.

One of the children who took part was India Rose, six, of Westergate. She said: "I enjoyed making my lantern. I liked sticking the frame together and the part where I had to put the cross bit on the bottom of the lantern.

I have never made one before and I think it looks good.

"I am going to light it up and put it with

our Christmas decorations."

THe workshop was run by artist Sharon Potter, pictured far right. She said: "Today's been very popular. It's about showing children what they can make and enabling them to gain confidence.

"I think handmade items are becoming popular again. When everything can be done on a computer, people like to have something which is unique and want to use their hands to make things again."

Another of those who went along, Katie Allard, eight, of Bognor Regis, said: "THis has been harder than I thought but I have still enjoyed doing it. I'm looking forward to seeing my lantern when it is finished."

NODDY was the star as Bognor Regis local history fans turned back the clock for Christmas.

THe town museum's annual nostalgic Christmas event proved popular as hundreds of visitors went along last weekend for a glimpse into the past.

One of the museum's shop window displays was devoted to Noddy. It included copies of letters written by the creator of the children's character, Enid Blyton, in 1949 and cars from the 1950s.

Next door was a reproduction of a Christmas display packed with baubles, paper chains and other memory joggers.

Littlehampton couple Steve and Karen Caplin paid their first visit to the museum in West Street.

Mr Caplin, 55, said: "THe displays just take you back."

Mrs Caplin, 61, said: "You can stand here for ten minutes and find things that are

very nostalgic."

Freya Adams, 10, of Victoria Drive, was also on her first visit. She said: "It's really nice here. Everyone is so friendly. THe Christmas displays were very pretty."

THis was about the fifth year the museum had staged its festive displaus.

Greg Burt, chairman of Bognor Regis Local History Society, said more than 200 people had visited.

"It has definitely been better than last year. It is a good opportunity to attract new people into the museum who might not otherwise come here.

"We also want to show people museums can be fun places as well."

As well as the displays, those who went along could meet Father Christmas, have a go at nut cracking, sample homemade cooking in the cafe and buy stocking fillers in the shop. THe museum is now closed until mid-April.

Women continue their fight at the Westminster debate

BY KELLY WICKHAM kelly.wickham@sussexpost.co.uk PURPLE-CLAD women campaigners of Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) from the south coast region converged on Westminster on Thursday, last week.

The latest opposition debate on equalisation of the State Pension Age, was tabled by SNP MP Patricia Gibson.

She and WASPI believe it is right for men and women to receive their state pension at the same age but object to the way the policy was introduced and implemented, with little time or no notice to make alternative financial or life plans, after paying national insurance contributions for more than 35 years.

Three women from Bognor Regis and Chichester WASPI group, Jill Robertson, Carol Groves and Christine Murray, heard the MP open the debate saying: "The weight of despair, the burning sense of injustice and the genuine bewilderment felt by the women who, by sheer bad luck, were born in the 1950s and thereby inexplicably became fair game to be robbed, mugged and made the victims of theft of the most cruel and callous kind."

Support was heard from over 20 MPs in the debate room, including Bob Seely the Conservative MP for the Isle of Wight.

Mr Nick Gibb, MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, had representation from a member of his staff, Stephen Furlong.

The debate, which lasted just over two hours, heard a reply from the UnderSecretary of State for Pensions, Guy

Opperman.

The debate was non-binding, but the majority of votes supported the WASPI women.

Outside, in the cold weather, further groups of WASPI women from as far as Devon to the Scottish Borders also attended, gathered to put pressure on the Government to resolve the issue.

A Southern region WASPI spokesperson said: "WASPI are grateful to many crossparty MPs who steadfastly work on their behalf, especially those who spoke in Thursday’s debate.

"We will make our presence felt at every parliamentary debate until we get justice. The Government needs to know that every quoted statistic represents real women.

"Some have had to sell their homes

to make ends meet, some have been awarded past divorce settlements based on an SPA of 60 years of age.

"Some struggle with ill-health and, perhaps, while helping to care for other family members young or old, on reduced financial means. After career dreams have been shattered.

"Some women are single and have to cope with all the above situations. But regardless of circumstances, all have suffered an injustice and the Government has a duty to correct this. For every woman who made the journey to London there were many who could not.

"We were there for all those invisible women around the country who deserve better state pension justice. And we will be there on every occasion until we get it."

Fire pupils shine A GROUP of students has graduated after a week of training at Bognor Regis Fire Station.

The seven young people spent a week taking part in drills, which included hose running, ladder climbs and wearing breathing apparatus.

They also learned skills like resuscitation and fire safety by completing West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service's FireBreak programme.

They took part in a pass out parade at the West Meads Drive building last week, when they received their certificates.

Graham Harmour, the lead instructor, said: "It's been a challenging week but the students have learned a number of valuable skills which they will be able

to use as they develop and grow. I am proud of each one of them for finishing the course."

The students who graduated, and their schools, were: Brandon Rennie (St Philip Howard); Callum Hickman (Chichester High School); Jamie Banks (Ormiston Six Villages); Kai Dwyer and Keeley Brown (Seadown School); Ryan ChalkChambers (Cornfield School); and Taylor Kennett (Felpham Community College).

Ryan also received an outstanding achievement award.

County Council cabinet member for safer, stronger committees, Cllr Debbie Kennard, said: "Well done to another fantastic group of young people who have worked hard."

Birthday bash raises cash

BY KELLY WICKHAM kelly.wickham@sussexpost.co.uk THE EXECUTIVE principal of Chichester College Group has raised £28,000 for a children's charity after he asked for donations rather than gifts for his 50th birthday.

Andrew Green held a charity ball earlier this month to celebrate his big day and to support PACSO, a charity which helps children with disabilities and their families in the county's Chichester and Arun districts.

Some 100 guests came together for the black tie event, held at the Grand Hotel in Brighton, where they were treated to live music, a charity auction and a special performance

by Theatre Inc – Chichester College’s awardwinning theatre company, which provides performing arts training tailored to young people with learning disabilities.

Andrew said: “I knew I wanted to do something special to mark my 50th birthday, and I wanted to do something that would

make a difference.

“PACSO is a fantastic local charity that does so much to support parents with children who have various disabilities, including those with learning difficulties or disabilities.

“As a parent of an ADHD child, I know how important this support is. So to be able to put on an event that would not only bring together my family, my friends and colleagues and raise money for an amazing cause was brilliant.

“I was blown away by the donations and success of the auction. To raise £28,000 for PACSO was probably the best gift I could have asked for.

“It was a brilliant evening, and I am extremely grateful to the generosity of everyone who joined us.”

Clare Elkington, the charity's chairman of trustees, added: "All at PACSO are very grateful to Andrew for raising so much to support our families with a child or young person with a disability.

"A huge thank you and happy 50th birthday!"

` Christmas crackdown MOTORISTS tempted to drink and drive this Christmas have been warned

by Sussex Police their details will be published online.

The force will launch its annual festive campaign tomorrow, aimed at tackling those who get behind their steering wheels under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Its 2018 crackdown will feature a range of colourful characters to illustrate the effects of driving in that condition. But Chief Inspector Andy Gooch, of the Surrey and Sussex roads policing unit, said the matter was nothing to laugh about.

"Drink and drug-driving destroys lives.

It happens year on year and sadly, despite our repeated warnings, there will always be a minority of selfish and shameful individuals who still continue to put the lives of themselves and others at risk."

Surrey and Sussex Police will have officers committed to the campaign, which will run until January 1.

Details of those convicted - including their name, age, address and occupation - will be published by the police online in keeping with their previous campaigns.

During the previous campaign, 195 arrests were made in Sussex, of which at least 130 individuals were convicted.

A total of 56 people died in road traffic collisions in Sussex last year. Of those, almost one in four - 13 - involved a drinkdriver. Chief Insp Gooch warned drivers to be aware of how much alcohol they had consumed before they drove.

Those who gambled with their lives risked a minimum 12-month ban, an unlimited fine, a possible prison sentence, a criminal record, an increase in their car insurance premium and difficulty travelling to countries like the USA. Anyone known to be driving over the limit or when taking drugs should be reported on 999.

Cathy helps protect planet with initiative f Yehudi Menuhin students entertained a packed cathedral

Talented musicians play for sick children A SPECIAL concert was held by pupils of a school to help raise money for The Sussex Snowdrop Trust.

The Yehudi Menuhin School, which nurtures the top musicians in the world, performed at Arundel Cathedral to an eager audience.

With a simple, yet vivid backdrop of a blood red carpet and poppies, the musicians transported the audience through their passion for music.

The school's founder, Yehudi Menuhin, famously visited the death camps at the end of the Second World War and played for the benefit of the survivors.

The programme involved talented young students from the UK, Spain, Indonesia, China and Serbia, with

The Aldingbourne Trust has its own reusable bags to raise funds for its work with adults with learning disabilities and autism, thanks to the mother of a volunteer at its country centre.

Cathy Tiley ensures empty hessian bags are no has-beens by using her sewing skills to create the long-lasting goods.

She is working with the earthworks project at the centre, just north of the A27, to print and sew on the trust's logo.

Gill Nudds, the earthworks project lead, said: "This is such a fantastic opportunity for the people we are supporting in our department. It is a completely new set of skills they will gain."

The wood team has also got involved.

Its project lead, Brian Alden, was given an old leather sofa which Cathy stripped for the bag handles. She came back to the UK after 30 years abroad when her husband started a job in London. Their four children had grown up and she wanted to make good use of her time.

The audience were treated to heartfelt and emotional performances of music by Mozart and Debussy.

Di Levantine, co-founder and chairman of the Sussex Snowdrop Trust, said: "We are so delighted to have these incredible students supporting the charity with this performance.

It is especially poignant on the eve of the Armistice Centenary for us to recognise the sacrifice of the 93 soldiers who gave their lives in Arundel as we sit in the pews alongside figures from the ‘There But Not There’ campaign."

ALADDIN and his magic lamp will be coming to Worthing ready for this year's pantomime.

Worthing Theatres and Paul Holman Associates have an exciting star cast for their annual family pantomime playing at the Pavilion Theatre from Friday until Tuesday, January 1.

Lee Latchford-Evans, of STEPS megafame, will take on the title role.

He is joined by CBeebies favourite, TV presenter Rebecca Keatley, as the feisty Princess Jasmine, along with award-winning comedian Vikki Stone, who brings her unique comedy style to play the male role of the evil Abanazar.

Completing the line-up is comic Mark Jones as Wishee Washee and Brighton cabaret star Dave Lynn as Widow Twankey.

Sleeping Beauty at Chichester Festival Theatre

The famous stage is given over to Chichester Festival Youth Theatre, whose wonderfully imaginative productions are treated just like a main Festival show – they are professional productions that just happen to have a cast exclusively of young people.

Lucy Betts, director of this year’s production of Sleeping Beauty, was herself a member of the Youth Theatre between the ages of seven and 20. It is written by Rufus Norris, who is now director of the National Theatre.

"It’s just nuts, I love it!," says Lucy, "It’s based on the original French fairy tale so there are elements that are the same: there’s Beauty who is asleep, there’s a prince who kisses her to wake her up; but there are twists and turns along the way, so it’s not always what you expect. What’s lovely is that because it’s so silly and funny, the poignant moments really strike a chord."

Lucy also promises it will be thrilling to look at, with set and costumes by the renowned designers, Simon Higlett and Ryan Dawson Laight.

"The set is totally different to any Youth Theatre set we’ve ever had – there are a few surprises! The same with the costumes; Ryan is really pushing it to the limit of the concept we’ve come up with and it’s so inspirational."

By Alicia Denny HARMONY is the key for a choir singing together but what happens when a newcomer arrives in a group - and is not quite what she seems?

That's the intriguing start of The Nightingales, which is billed as a comedy and certainly has many deft and witty touches in the script but underneath lurks the pathos and half-truths hidden in many people's lives.

Best known from television's Gavin and Stacey, Ruth Jones is outstanding as Maggie, the voluble outsider who becomes a catalyst for change in the cosy community choir's dynamics.

She encourages the audience to have sympathy for her by speaking directly of her experiences and feelings but, as the narrative progresses, there is growing disquiet about her background, suspicions shared by her fellow

characters.

The other five actors - Steven Pacey as choir leader Steven, Sarah Earnshaw as Connie, who has ambitions and can really sing, Philip McGinley as her downto-earth husband Ben, Mary Stockley as the devious Diane and Stefan Adegbola in the difficult role of lothario Bruno have an easy-going rapport, making for believable characterisation.

With a talent contest being the hook which encourages the choir to change direction, there are nods to many facets of human nature in the neat script but, as Maggie sums up at the end, people are enigmas.

THE STREETS of Chichester will be filled with festive fun as the annual Christmas market arrives in the city from next week.

The market will last for nine days as stalls fill North Street and East Street full of gifts. There will also be a nativity set with donkeys to entertain the children and there will be carol singing throughout the week.

People will find a spectacular range of carefully selected top quality crafts, decorations, festive food and unusual, individual gifts for all your friends and family.

Paul Bishop is the organiser from Woodland Crafts, which run a variety of different events in the area.

He said: "We like to bring something different to Chichester which isn't readily available all the time.

"We like the festive atmosphere. It's lovely when it's really busy. We have a nativity which is delightful. Children are always delighted by that.

"We also have Mary and Joseph outside Marks and Spencer. We just like to be able to bring something that's very different."

EVENTS MANAGEMENT

Mr Bishop said that it always proved a big success.

"We get a fantastic response from the public every year," he said.

"It's very well received. Although it's a Christmas market, most of the stalls there are run by people who aren't market traders.

"They are craftspeople who come from quite a wide area, as well as lots of local people.

"There are a lot of very nice quality things and a lot of unique things. People like to give a gift that is a bit unusual.

"They like to give something which

when it's opened shows they have given some thought to. That's what we are all about."

The market will run from Saturday, December 8, until Sunday, December 16. It will run from 9am until 5.30pm from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9am until 8pm on Thursday and from 10am until 4.30pm on Sunday.

The market is organised and managed entirely by Woodland Crafts Events Management, with co-operation from Chichester District Council and the Chichester BID team.

By Alicia Denny FOR ANYONE who has enjoyed holidays in Turkey - or people who just like different high-class dining experiences - the opening of Reina's Kitchen will be happily welcomed.

Londoner Mehmet Yenturt had been looking to move out of the city for his next restaurant venture and had not considered Chichester until his detailed researches discovered a gap in the market in the city for the style of quality Turkish cuisine he wanted to offer.

He came upon the former shop at 10-12 Market Road last spring and has spent six months completely renovating the shell, including adding all services, to create a state of the art dining area with a fully open kitchen so diners can watch five top chefs at work preparing their meals.

The chefs, all of whom have trained in Turkey, are led by Mehmet's father-in-law, who brings 30 years' of experience and culinary skill to the kitchen.

His high standards apply not only to the quality of food preparation but also to the freshness of ingredients. Unusually for a restaurant, there is only one freezer and that is for storage of chips and ice cream - every other ingredient is fresh.

Meat and fish come from the markets freshly purchased from Portsmouth. The chefs at Reina then marinade it in olive oil to enhance the flavour, organic herbs and spices are brought in from farms in South East Turkey on a regular basis.

The menu includes traditional Turkish dishes, including old favourites, family recipes and chefs' own specialities. A lumpwood charcoal grill enables flavoursome meats to be cooked then served immediately.

Lunches are available Monday to Friday and dinner daily from noon to midnight as well as meze snacks and drinks.

After all the months of hard work, resulting in what Mehmet calls an amazing transformation, he can't wait to share his restaurant venture with the people of Chichester and surrounding area.

It is a multi-site church with one leadership and vision, with Sunday meetings held in four locations: Chichester, Bognor Regis, Midhurst and Havant.

To find out more about how the church has grown and plans for its future, we asked its Lead Elder, David Thompson to answer a few questions:

How and when did Grace Church come to the Chichester and Bognor Regis area?

Grace Church met publicly for the first time in June, 2006. From small beginnings with a handful of people meeting at Oving Jubilee Village Hall, the church has continued to grow to over 400 people. By 2013 we were already having an impact on both Chichester and Bognor Regis, but all our Sunday services and other church activities happened in the old Grace Centre at the far end of Terminus Road. When that site was redeveloped into the Chichester Enterprise Gateway, it made sense to begin meeting in Bognor Regis as well as in Chichester.

This move to Bognor Regis has enabled us to serve that community much more effectively. Over the last five years we have started the popular Little Bears toddler group and become a CAP Life Skills Centre. We have continued to grow and are now moving our Sunday venue to South Way Primary School so we can fit more people in.

In Chichester we currently meet at Chichester High School, Kingsham Road at 11am each Sunday morning. However, in 2019 we will be opening our new Grace Centre in Terminus Road.

In Bognor Regis, from December 16, we will be meeting at South Way Primary School in North Bersted at 10am each Sunday (with the exception of our carol service on December 23, which will start at 3.30pm).

In Midhurst we meet weekly at Midhurst Rother College, North Street, and in Havant we meet at Warblington School, Southleigh Road. Each of these meetings start at 10am.

When many other churches are struggling to gain and keep worshippers, can you explain the success of Grace Church?

Despite reports to the contrary the Christian church is thriving around the world and the UK is no different. Grace Church, like many churches around the UK, is on a mission to make Jesus Christ known today. The way we do this is by being highly relational both with members of our congregation, and

also with the wider community. The word Grace means receiving something that we didn’t earn and don’t deserve. The Christian message is that God has shown his grace to us by sending Jesus. Therefore, we love to demonstrate grace to our community through acts of kindness. For example, we regularly hold community events such as fun days, BBQs and this year’s successful ‘Screen on the Green’ open air cinema event. I guess people often ask why we are doing these things and that is an opportunity to tell them about God’s unconditional love. We also run Alpha Courses for people who want to find out more. We find that there is a real hunger in our society for friendship and a feeling of belonging. Therefore, we work hard to make sure that church is not just about turning up to a service, but about building relationships and being part of a community. Once people come, they don’t want to leave!

Do you have plans to expand any further?

We launched our Havant site during 2018, so it is exciting to see this becoming established in the year ahead. We have no immediate plans to add more sites, but there are always opportunities to expand into new ways of serving the community. We are looking forward to being able to run groups, courses and events in our new Grace Centre.

Are the meetings open to all ages and will people find a warm welcome?

Absolutely! There is a huge diversity of people at Grace Church, including all ages.

Community News & Views YOUTH parliament members from West Sussex put their skills to the ultimate test in a lively House of Commons debate.

Chaired by the speaker of the house, John Bercow, the four teenagers took part in the annual event for UK Parliament Week.

Oliver Faragher (East Arun, Adur and Worthing), Erin Masterson (Horsham and Mid Sussex), Farah Khan (Crawley and East Grinstead) and Harley Collins (Chichester and West Arun), pictured below left to right, helped to debate five issues chosen in a huge ballot by young people across the UK earlier this year.

THey were: put an end to knife crime, mental health, equal pay, equal work, tackling homelessness and votes at 16.

Erin said afterwards: "Going to the House of Commons was so surreal. I had seen it all on TV before, so to actually be there, sitting on the green seats was very bizarre.

"THe speeches were all amazing and, although I didn't get to speak myself, I still got so much from the experience. It was extremely inspiring and eye-opening. Now I feel I can do anything I set my mind to."

All the UK Youth Parliament members involved in the event this month voted to decide which two issues would become their priority campaigns for next year. THese were ending knife crime and votes at 16.

In one of the largest youth consultations of its kind in UK history, this year's Make Your Mark campaign saw 1,106,788 young people take part - with one in five of all 11-18 year olds voting. West Sussex saw a record 21,206 young people vote in the ballot.

Cllr Paul Marshall, West Sussex County Council's cabinet member for children and young people, said: "It is wonderful that young people from this county were at the heart of this debate and represented their peers so well.

VOLUNTEERS will be asking shoppers in Bognor Regis to give up their packaging.

A group of environmentally aware campaigners will be based at Tesco in Shripney Road tomorrow to gain support for their efforts to reduce the amount of plastic in the environment.

THe #returntheplastic movement is a national organisation devoted to stop plastic ending up in the sea, our rivers and being littered across towns and countryside.

David Meagher will be one of those present from 10am-1pm.

He said: "THe group mooted the idea over a month ago when local people who clear plastic from the beach saw it would be possible to prevent some of the plastic we throw away from leaving shops and supermarkets in the first place.

"All of the members in our team have litter-picked the beaches because we have seen the horrific results for animals and fish in the sea and now we are finding plastic in our own bodies."

THe team will politely ask shoppers to remove the excess packaging from their purchases and place it in the group's trollies to be offered back to the supermarket.

Tesco has agreed to bring in more bins for the occasion to allow the plastic to be recycled once it has been returned.

THe event follows on from one held in Frome in Somerset last week. Its popularity has paved the way for fortnightly sessions. #returntheplastic wants to clean up the oceans and cut the use of raw materials to reduce the cost to the environment and to shoppers as well.

Members of the public can get involved by signing up at: Bognor&Chichester#returntheplastic or joining the national campaign on Facebook.

KENYAN farmers will benefit from a partnership between a global farming and food company in Pagham and Aldi stores.

THe produce will be grown by the farmers involved in the Growing Futures Project, an initiative run by international development charity Farm Africa and funded by the supermarket.

Barfoots has a longstanding relationship with Aldi and has committed to transporting two tonnes of green beans from farms in Kitale in western Kenya to Aldi stores in the Midlands.

To date, the project has helped more than 400 young people, pictured above, to grow and sell vegetables that are in high demand to enable them to earn money and build sustainable businesses.

LITTLE swimmers in pyjamas had a splashing time in Walberton to raise money for a hospice.

THe youngsters with Hampshire and West Sussexbased baby and children swim school, Puddle Ducks, were sponsored for its annual PJ Week. THis sees them learn water safety in their favourite pyjamas, pictured above with teacher Claire Turner at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel.

A family-run business, it employs about 400 people.

It is fully powered by waste and re-uses 120,000 litres of wastewater a year and generates all its energy from an onsite waste plant.

Sir, Bognor Regis needs regeneration. Regeneration means improving the social and economic wellbeing of the area.

Arun District Council’s Linear Car Park proposal is not regeneration – it’s redevelopment.

THe council proposes to spend £4 million in order to give us what we already have, only smaller. We get less green space, less public parking spaces, and all to squeeze in some flats.

A complete waste of taxpayers’ money when there are so many deserving causes.

Arun listen but they do not hear. THe townsfolk have told Arun numerous times in consultations, surveys and petitions that they do not want flats on the town’s two key regeneration sites.

Arun ignores this and continues promoting proposals for flats - and then they wonder why they don't have public support!

In January, in a public question, I asked the leader of the council to explain what she saw as the regeneration benefits of the linear car park - it was an opportunity for her to 'sell' her council's proposal. She couldn’t provide a credible answer and didn’t even know the difference between redevelopment and regeneration.

THe Regis Centre and Hothamton sites are probably the best two seafront real estate sites between Brighton and Portsmouth.

With well thought out investment, they can be used to regenerate the town. We waste that opportunity at our peril.

Tony Dixon, Barons Close, Westergate Sir, Last year a young homeless woman, sleeping mainly in a doorway in London Road, died in temperatures approaching sub-zero.

THe immediate cause of her death or how she came to sleep in the streets aren't really relevant. But the stark fact is that she died in this freezing cold at night in central Bognor Regis.

Even with increased provision for rough sleepers when temperatures fall below zero, there are still insufficient places for the current needs of those who would not sleep out by choice. As a stopgap measure, could we ensure that anyone sleeping out on our streets has a THermos flask?

THis could then be filled with a hot drink or soup by passers-by and might help forestall some similar tragedies this winter.

MOVE over Movember - Christopher Best is fundraising his way.

THe 11th month of the year has recently been adopted by the Movement Foundation to encourage men to be sponsored to grow beards and raise money for men's health research.

But council planning officer Christopher, pictured above, is shaving off his beard instead.

THe deed will be carried out today and Christopher is hoping to raise £500 - £100 for each year he has had his beard.

He said: "THis is really a big deal for me as I have literally grown very attached to my beard.

"Originally, the plan was to grow it out for an entire year without trimming, which I achieved, though I couldn't bring myself to trim it until month 15.

"Since then, I have kept it trimmed regularly at various lengths and shapes.

"Growing a beard for a substantial amount of time really is a 'journey'. During this time, it allows you to see how friends and family feel about the decisions you make and whether they react postively and support you or are, instead, totally negative."

Christopher, 28, deals with Bognor Regis planning work for Arun District Council in its Littlehampton offices.

Beetle drive and The Beatles were town's news Housing, jobs and moans about young people made the pages in 1965 I REALLY enjoy looking at old newspapers, now brown and falling apart, I have several from 1965 so let’s look at these editions for this week’s article.

With any review of another era’s newspapers we must always remember that they reflect the thoughts and conditions of their own time. However, stories, cartoons and advertisements could reflect today’s point of view. Hidden away on the back page is a very small story of the mystery drive enjoyed by members of the Bognor Regis Women’s Liberal Association and advertised the next meeting, a beetle drive. News!

One story reported the death of Jocelyn Reginald Hansford, aged 84, and a name very much associated with Bognor Regis and, of course, Chichester. Mr Hansford was named as the father of Bognor Urban District Council. He came to the town in 1902 from Dorset and within seven years set up his own business.

One of his main interests was Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital and he was instrumental in the development of the hospital. Reading the full report shows what a dedicated man he was to the development of the town he had adopted, he had one of the first cars in the town and founded Bognor Regis Rotary Club.

For many, of course, he will be remembered today by the shop that still exists in Chichester, which advertises it has specialised in menswear since 1908.

THe largest employer in the town, Lec Refrigeration. was also reporting it had doubled its profits in 1964. Mr Purley also reports the “company maintains a vigorous export sales campaign when their exports rose by 61 per cent and they were looking forward to this trend continuing." Today, so many people are unaware of this company that employed over 2,000 and was situated on the Shripney Road, where today we have Sainsbury’s.

Remembering this is 1965, I found a heading of ‘Much to gain'. It went on to explain ‘the first tenants required to move out of under occupied houses owned by Bognor Regis Urban Council to make way for younger families have received letters explaining the position'. THis situation had, apparently been brought on by ‘a bulging housing list'. THe article continued with the knowledge that many of the elderly people involved would not necessarily wish to move to smaller accommodation. Does any of this sound familiar?

THere were the usual advertisements for entertainment, including the Royal THeatre which was showing, ‘the first full-length film

by THe Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night. THere were shows at the Esplanade THeatre and at the Summer Marquee. THe Shoreline Club was very busy and also THe Tithe Barn in Aldwick. THis page also showed information on jazz clubs, and, of course, the week’s top ten records. Top of the hit parade was Long

THere were speciality holidays promoted by the Chichester Travel Agency, which caught my eye. THey were for farmers! THeir trip was to be by sea to the USA and a coach to New York and Miami. THe purpose of this trip was to visit 'agricultural and breeding interests'.

THis was for 27 days in November. I wonder how many local farmers went on this trip?

THis sat alongside trips to the Holy Land, New York, Bermuda etc.

THere are a number of ‘featured’ writers, such as Belinda, who weekly wrote around matters within her Town and Country gossip section. THe first item that week talks about trying to change the starting time for paper boys from 7am to 6.30am. THis was due to the fact these children could be late for school now, as they have to travel distances to school, not like in the early days where they would leave for school a few minutes to 9am.

Angling featured quite a bit in the paper, including the Angling Roundabout feature

by Derek Masters. At a two-day festival, over 1,461lbs of fish were caught. THere were numerous pictures around the feature including a cartoon. Another feature was that of ‘Bernard Price – people – places – things’.

THis particular week he reported on recently held exhibitions in both 'Chichester and Bognor Regis on developments and traffic proposals'. Bernard continued, ‘if city life is to retain any sanity, bold moves are necessary.

Pedestrian shopping precincts on the scale proposed are essential'. I wonder what he would think of today’s traffic controls?

Any advertisement in the press of course provides a comment in relation to price.

Take for example the Southern Gas half page advertisement promoting that for £265 you could have an 'all-in Gas Central Heating, 7 radiator installation'. THere was an allowance of £5 to trade in your old boiler.

Fine Fare was promoting apples at 1/4d per lb, three packets of biscuits were 2s, legs of lamb at 4/4d per lb were from New Zealand’s finest pastures. THere is also an advertisement for the new magazine Sussex Life, in fact only its second issue.

THere was a small readers' page, entitled Your point of View, with the main headline of ‘THese Young people are not bad’. THe letter was written by the librarian of the Training College in Bognor Regis. THe letter complained about the editor altering the previous letter and also the misunderstanding of adults of young people of the time. While not here, I also encountered this approach and almost had the same headline in a letter I had written over 200 miles away.

One large section looks at ‘specialists at your service', and offers the reader the opportunities to seek out various traders, blacksmiths, builders, chimney sweeps and a variety of other services. Local companies advertised for a variety of staff, alongside pages of motor vehicle adverts. Jobs at Marks & Spencer paid a wage of £7.10s (£7.50) if you were 20 years of age and if you wished you could purchase a 1963 Hillman Imp for £415.

You could rent a TV for 8/6d (42.5p) weekly or buy a new house for £3,700 on the Kings Beach Estate in Pagham.

I don’t know if you are now tempted to talk of the 'good old days' or not, but I thought it was just an interesting peek into the past.

Volunteer village shop assistant – Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre

Amberley museum was founded in 1979 by the Southern Industrial History Centre Trust and is dedicated to the industrial heritage of the South East, charting the history of local industry and crafts in this part of Sussex. The village shop is an important aspect of the visitor experience at the museum, located at the start of the 36 acre site, and presented as a post war 1950s style sweet shop and local village shop.

As part of the retail operation at the museum, the shop also plays an important part in raising funds needed for the museum. As a volunteer, your role will be to ensure every visitor has a superb experience and the shop runs smoothly. Experience of working in retail and using an electronic till would be helpful, but is not essential. More importantly, you need to enjoy meeting visitors and working as part of a team.

Second place is just the ticket as Tone Zone swap the rain for Spain FORGET Bognor, Benidorm is where it is for a spot of winter running.

With wind and rains battering the south coast, a team of Tone Zoners headed to the south of Spain to take on the Benidorm 10k.

A total of 16 club members signed up for the event, which was far from a holiday.

First home for the club was Simon Gill, running a time of 35 minutes, closely followed

by Peter Lee, in 37 minutes.

Jack Penfold, who was running a strong race, stopped with a nose bleed halfway before finishing with Danny Mahoney just under 42 minutes.

Chris Gallagher ran a personal best time for 44:14, followed by Nigel Pidgeon, who finished just over the 45 minute mark. Shaun Smart was just a few places behind, along with Marc Annals, who was still carrying an injury from last year's race.

Ian Baley finished just ahead of head coach Keith Hardwell, who had spent his weekend ensuring all runners were hydrated. It seemed to work for him as well, as he crossed the line in a time of 47 minutes.

Carolyn Stapley, Karl Hayes and Glenn Penfold (who was running his first race in two

years) all ran a close race and crossed the line under 50 minutes. Just missing out on that barrier was Neil Strudwick, who made his return to racing after the Chicago Marathon last month.

Kate O’Connor and Neil Pacey rounded off a good weekend for the club, both finishing under 53 minutes.

Tone Zone also claimed second place in the club rankings throughout the race meaning the flight home was a cheery one for the cohort of Bognor-based runners.

Closer to home in Hampshire, over at Staunton Country Park, was the festive frolic, a 4.7 mile lapped course where runners can run any amount of laps they wanted to.

The sun was out but it certainly was a cool one. Michelle Maxim, Lisa Jaycocks-Winslow and Leigh Paige ran two laps of the course.

Maxim completed it in 1:53, with Lisa and Leigh finishing in 2:01 Fellow Tone Zoners Tony Holcombe, Cheryl Laing and Andy Shill all ran nearly 28 miles of the course.

Holcombe and Shill showed great teamwork to help each other around the course, finishing in 5:11, with Laing finishing 10 minutes later.

DARTS: Gary Blackwood (the Legends) was the star performer as he averaged more than 25 points per dart in his side's win over BRSA Ravens in week five of the Friday Benevolent League. Here are the results in full:

TOP trampolinist Sofija Kalnicenko rounded off an excellent season for Bognor's Dragonflyers by scooping gold on the national stage.

With only one international event to go, competitors from the Bognor-based club produced a series of excellent displays at the League One finals in Sheffield.

The high point was a stunning performance from Kalnicenko, who produced her personal best performance of 141.020 over three routines.

This placed her 5.755 marks above her nearest rival, Rhianne Mulligan (14th at British championships - City of Salford) and well ahead of Rhiannon Roberts (10th at British championships).

It rounded off a good fortnight for Kalnicenko, who teamed up with Rosie Budge and Libby Morton to take international team bronze in the 13 to 14-years category at the DWH biannual event the week earlier.

Over a dozen countries participated in the event, some entering their national team.

Kalnicenko also qualified for the individual finals, one of only three British performers to do so and finished a respectable fifth place behind the Swedish, Netherlands and Polish national team and Edgebarrow club.

Elsewhere, Morton and Lucy Hijmans finished fifth at the synchro league finals where they challenged the very best male female and mixed pairs. Morton also placed ninth at the individual League Two finals.

Coach Linda O'Leary said: "Dragonflyers have had a sensational season. This tiny club qualified the majority of its competitive performers to regional finals where two-thirds medalled. In total, 15 national medals plus a team international medal has been won.

"With young Manon Bailey making progress on the national and international scene, Izzy Hauxwell expected back on the competition floor and the return of national medallist Anya Johnston to training, Flyers trampoline club are looking forward to a productive 2019."

SHORT MAT BOWLS: In their forth league game against Mannings Heath at Boxgrove, Infinity took the honours and sealed six points.

On mat 1, Robin Armstrong, Pauline Jeffery, Steve Jeffery and Chris Page won 28-7. The score does not reflect what a good game they had.

On mat 2 John Simms, Denise Kirby, Jack Rollings and Charlotte Rollings had a tight game with Mannings Heath in the lead from the beginning, but in the last few ends Infinity came back and went into the 20th end 20 points each.

End 20 saw both teams with a bowl leaning against the Jack thus they went into the last and 21st end still on 20 points each.

Infinity finished the last end scoring 1 point which was all they needed to win.

Pagham boss urges Lions to pounce and take Vase chance

Blues bid for four in a row CHICHESTER RFC have the top six in their sights as their mid-season surge up the table rolls on.

After a poor start to the London South One campaign, Blues have chalked up three victories on the spin.

The latest was a 22-0 home win over bottom side Hove which has lifted Chi up to ninth in the table.

With their early season issues with form well and truly behind them, Blues know that a victory at eighth-placed Cobham tomorrow (2pm) could see them leapfrog their hosts.

If Chi bag a bonus point win and results go their way then they could end the weekend sitting in the top six of the London South One. It would be a remarkable turnaround for Scott Ashley's side, who had won just one of their first eight matches of the campaign.

With a number of influential players now returning to the ranks it looks as though Blues have turned the corner.

The win against Hove was secured after a fast start from the hosts.

Henry Anscombe, who returned to fly half, put a low

kick into Vultures Corner as the Hove defence scrambled Full back Charlie Norton managed to sneak in to touch down before kicking a fine conversion. 7-0 after 12 minutes.

But despite having much of the better of the play, Blues were unable to add to the scoring before the break.

Into the second period and an early penalty extended Chi's lead.

A drive from the pack looked to have extended the score but the officials disagreed. Instead, it took Sam Renwick to scythe through the Hove defence to extend the score to 17-0.

Hove gallantly tried again but their backs lacked the tactical variety to penetrate.

Blues capitalised. From lineout ball Chi backs pressed again and Rhys Thompson scored the third try right of the posts.

Try as they did, Ashley's side were not able to get the fourth score and bag the bonus point.

--Bognor RFC return to Hampshire Premier action tomorrow when they welcome Eastleigh IIs to Hampshire Avenue (2pm). The Purple and Greens are currently third after winning seven of nine games.

PAGHAM joint-boss Tom Simmonds is urging his side to stick to the game plan as they look to progress to the last 32 of the FA Vase.

Lions head to Southampton tomorrow to play Sholing in the third round of the national knockout competition (3pm).

A good crowd is expected to follow Pagham on their trip out west as they look to defeat a side who have won all 14 games in the Wessex Premier League this season.

But, even after Pagham lost their unbeaten league record with a 3-0 loss to Eastbourne Town last weekend, hopes are high at Nyetimber Lane that they can spring a surprise.

Simmonds, who manages the team alongside Richie Hellen, said: "We have looked into them and know they are the only team in the country with a 100 per cent record so it will be a tough task.

"I know a couple of lads who play in the Wessex League so they have been giving me reports and we will try and get as much info as we can so that we can go over there with a game plan and see what we can do."

Pagham defeated fellow SCFL Premier side Peacehaven 4-1 in the last round.

Robins rally to record rare win

BOSHAM will be looking to build on a rare positive result after they rallied to complete a come from behind win over Montpelier Villa.

A year ago everything looked rosy for the red shirted side as they were on the way to top-three finish in the SCFL Division Two and lifting the league cup along the way.

But The Robins have struggled so far this season with an early managerial change doing little to change the club's fortunes.

But as the weeks have gone on, their performances have got better with joint managers Tony Hancock and Danny Mullen

starting to get their points across to the players.

It paid off last weekend when the Walton Lane side rallied to wrap up three points against fellow strugglers Villa.

After falling behind in the first half, goals after the break from Max Terry and Jake Lafferty sealed only a third league win of the season for Bosham.

Those three points lifts them up to 12th in the 15 team SCFL Division Two. Tomorrow they head to the outskirts of Brighton to play Rottingdean Village (2pm).

In SCFL Division One, Selsey's surge up the table continues as the Blues look to make it four wins on the bounce away at Southwick tomorrow (3pm).

Daren Pearce's side have really hit their stride in recent weeks, stringing together a run of positive results.

After a disappointing loss away at Midhurst, Selsey's young side have notched nine points from nine which has seen them climb to fifth place in a competitive division.

The latest victory came last weekend when goals from Tom Jefkins and Lindon Miller (2) sealed a comfortable victory away at Storrington.

The three goals would have pleased Pearce who has said that the failure to convert chances has cost his side in the early stages of the season.

At the other end of the table, fellow SCFL Division One side Sidlesham remain with their heads above the water.

Steve Bailey's side have a prime opportunity to give themselves some much needed breathing room when they head to Mile Oak tomorrow (3pm).

Sids are currently 13th in the 18 team division, just four points above tomorrow's hosts who are second bottom.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Alfold last week means that Bailey's side have now not won for more than a month, meaning victory tomorrow would taste even sweeter.

City welcome back defensive mainstay CHICHESTER CITY have received a boost in their bid for promotion with the re-signing of influential defender Harry Williams.

After a strong start to the season, Miles Rutherford's side have slightly faltered in recent weeks, which has seen them toppled from the top of the SCFL Premier.

But the addition of Williams, who had been playing for local rivals Pagham, is expected to give City a lift as they look to string together a run of positive results to round off 2018.

The defender has had to wait to make his debut for the club after last week's match at Eastbourne United was called off due to the weather.

That postponement meant Chi have now fallen to eight points behind leaders Horsham

YMCA. But with two games in hand and more than half the season still to play, they know they will have plenty of time to pull back the deficit.

They can start as they mean to go one tomorrow against league newcomers Langney Wanderers at Priory Lane in Eastbourne (3pm).

--Chichester City Ladies return to action on Sunday when they head to Crawley Wasps in the second round of the FA Cup on Sunday (2pm) at Oakwood FC. The Green and White Army have been in excellent form this season and are second in the FA National Southern Premier. But so are Wasps who are top of the National Division One South East, winning all 14 games so far.

Winter is coming - with Rocks keen to freeze out their rivals Next Game

BOGNOR boss Jack Pearce believes the Rocks can use the winter period to start surging up the Bostik Premier table.

A stop-start autumn has seen the Nyewood Lane side lose much of the momentum generated during those heady summer days with Rocks now sitting seventh.

Injuries have been the main cause of that disruption to results, which has also seen cup exits in the Velocity Trophy, FA Cup and FA Vase to lower league opposition.

Rocks avoided making it a clean sweep of cup exits last weekend when they came from behind to defeat Bostik Division One South East side Three Bridges in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup. But with two important league matches to come in the space of four days at Harlow tomorrow (3pm) and at home to Enfield Town on Tuesday (7.45pm), Pearce knows that his side can use the busy run up to Christmas as a perfect platform to launch a promotion push.

The veteran manager said: "December and January is a time when we can make a move "If we keep people fit and get the two injured players we have out back then there's no reason why we can’t start stringing results together.

"The way results are going though in this league there could be a dozen clubs who are thinking like that so we have to focus and cannot take anything for granted."

Taking sides for granted seems to be a regular thing for Rocks at the moment.

Last weekend, they gave their opponents a head start once again with Three Bridges going in at the break with a 2-0 lead over their higher ranked opponents.

Pearce admitted there were some words exchanged in the dressing room between the management team and the players - with the pep talk seemingly working as strikes from Mason Walsh, Tommy Block and Dan Smith sealing safe passage through to the next round.

Pearce said: "We obviously can’t run away from fact that we re giving teams, particularly those from lower leagues, a head start on us in games. They were more fired up at the start and we just did not match them. We were very disappointed with our first half showing and lucky only to go in two down.

"But full credit to the players for putting into practice what we said to them. We came through it and got the win which was the main thing."

Next up is Harlow Town, a team who are fourth bottom but have won their last two matches. Then it is Enfield, who are eighth but have not won in four.

Rocks will also be boosted by the return of fans' favourite Gary Charman who has resigned from Burgess Hill to cover for injured defenders Corey Heath and Keaton Wood..

Hibs still keen on teen Block TOMMY BLOCK'S hopes of a move to the Scottish Premiership remain alive after the Rocks youngster was invited back on trial at Neil Lennon's Hibernian.

The Easter Road side want another look at the 18-year-old midfielder after he fell ill during a stint with the Edinburgh club last week.

Block trained with the first team under the watchful eye of ex-Celtic manager Lennon and then played in a behind-closed-doors friendly game in which he scored with a header from a corner.

But he missed two days of training due to an upset tummy - so Hibs have invited him back up for another few days in December.

Block said: "I thought I did well initially but then had a stomach bug and was confined to my hotel room. There was no way I could train or play. Hibs were brilliant, though, they really looked after me while I was unwell and helped me get through it.

"I wasn't sure if being unwell during the few days I was there would have a negative impact on my chances of impressing them. But they were brilliant, telling me not to concern myself too much about being ill. I remain hopeful that once again I can impress."

THIS season is really starting to get interesting as we enter the festive period.

I believe where we are come Christmas will be a good indicator as to where we will be towards the end of the season.

If we are lying nicely in the play-offs then I hope we can stay there or improve when we have our full-strength side out.

At the moment, it is terribly difficult for our team to get results but I thought we battled hard in another superb second half against Three Bridges in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup. There is a lot of debate at the moment as to how many players we have out and what a difference this is making.

I agree with the fact that we are struggling defensively.

And we have had more bad luck with Pompey loanee Joe Dandy getting sidelined as well.

But Tommy Block has been doing the best he can at centre back and now he's got a trial with Hibernian! Well done Tommy! I have to say that I’d much rather see you stick around at Nyewood Lane, than move to Scotland though!

Tommy was one of the goalscorers in our recent 3-2 win against Bridges. Since I last saw them play in the county league, they have improved remarkably and provided a real test for our team.

They scored two goals in the first half and we looked lost at sea. I wasn’t sure if we’d get back into the game.

But again, as we have seen on more than one occasion, after the break Bognor came out stronger and we dominated the second half and maybe should have scored more.

I was saying to other fans before kick off that I was surprised Dan Smith started given his requirements with Portsmouth and it being a county cup game.

I thought we would rest more senior players than we did.

But it was a strong side we put out and in the end it paid off.

There has been a lot of debate over our short corner tactics. I have to say I am not a fan.

But after listening to Robbie Blake on the Rocks Radio/TV interview following the recent cup win, I can see why we are doing it.

For me, our biggest threat with corners would have been Corey Heath but with him out, I can understand it.

But I’d like us to vary it up sometimes and maybe drive the ball low into the area and see where it ends up.

You never know, it could bounce off a defender and into the net without even finding a green and white shirt.

I know we haven’t got a Craig Robson or Jason Prior anymore and neither do we have a Ben Johnson to chip them in every week!

But I just think it might throw teams off their game as they are sometimes pre-empting our short corner play.

I'm also getting very excited about a certain event in December - it’s getting closer by the day!

Of course I am talking about the El Classicoast on December 22 away to the Mackerel Men - or is it the Rebels? They can’t seem to make up their mind can they?

Yes, the Worthing game will be interesting and I know everyone in the press box and from speaking to fans we will all be there.

It's always nice beating local rivals. But first we have some tough fixtures coming up, including Harlow, Enfield, Dorking and Kingstonian.

This next month is going to be tough, but I think if we keep this resiliency in our matches then we will have no problem.

I just hope we can start performing better in the first half as well as we know we can in the second.
