A LONG-SERVING councillor has said she is getting scared to go into Bognor Regis town centre. Cllr Elaine Stainton told her fellow councillors action was needed now to restore the town centre to being a pleasant place to shop. She said: "I have really deep concerns about what is happening in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. I really worry about young children. Something

has to be done. "We have to have more police in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton town centres. There are drugs going on all the time and begging going on - people coming up to you asking for money. "I like to shop in Bognor Regis but I really don't want to go in there. "If I go out in the evening, I think it's going to be terrifying, to be quite honest. "We have got to get these drug dealers.

We have got to have more control. We need more police. It really is a desperate situation." Cllr Stainton (C, Felpham W) made her comments during a debate at Arun District Council's meeting on Wednesday. It had been begun by Cllr Dr James Walsh (LD, Beach). He said: "What the public are saying to me, and many other councillors, is that they are fed

up to the back teeth with increasing levels of anti-social behaviour and vandalism, like smashed windscreens and broken wing mirrors. "The way to prevent it is to increase community policing, with walking patrols of police community support officers (PCSO) and PCs.
