to regenerate Bognor Regis with a mini-Crystal Palace.

THe town’s civic society has unveiled a scheme for an all-year multi-use entertainment centre, pictured right.

Dubbed THe Bognor Regis Pavilion, it is a geodesic dome – similar to those at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

THe 25m diameter double glazed glass structure would be capable of hosting an ice rink in the winter and a host of other functions in the summer to boost the town’s profile and economy.

It would create a landmark with an eye-catching design on the Hothamton children’s play area next to the car park at a basic cost of £1.4m plus VAT. Hugh Coster, the civic society’s deputy chairman, said: “THe people of the town have consistently said in all the consultations and surveys they want a permanent ice rink. We saw the temporary ice rink for the past two Christmases being a huge success. We felt this was a very clear message from people.

“An ice rink would only be viable for a couple of months of the year but we thought a landmark building with outstanding architecture which could be used all year for a range of functions was the answer.

“THe closer it is to the town centre the stronger the regeneration benefit.

“It would be unique and exclusive to Bognor Regis as far as we know. THere is nothing else quite like it in the country.”

THe dome would be 9.5m high and measure 314sq m on a concrete base with the ice on top in the winter and flooring in the summer. Without the rink, it could accommodate 304 seats.

“We think it will bring the Sunken Garden to life, bring a lot of footfall to the area and the anti-social behaviour there will go.”

Projects launched for a better town TODAY is the start of the first big spring clean in Bognor Regis.

THe town's business improvement district (BID) members have launched the campaign to make the town as visually attractive and welcoming as possible.

One element is to encourage firms to improve the outside of their premises and their frontage.

THe spring clean will last until April 23 and the BID has set April 5 as a perfect day.

Chris Heaps, one of the BID's directors leading the welcoming town objective, said: "We're asking all businesses to take a long hard look at the outside of their properties and see where, with a little investment of time or money, they could make visible improvements.

"We are able to signpost businesses to shopfront grants, and have identified areas where BID levy funds could be invested to achieve beneficial outcomes for the town centre as a whole."

THe BID will also be running a monthlong anti-litter campaign. Highly visible banners and posters will remind visitors to the town centre to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.

In addition to the campaign, the BID is supporting other clean-up initiatives.

THese include providing a free hot drink to volunteers who take part in Bognor Regis Town Council's beach litter pick events.

A BID spokesman said: "We see the town centre as the heart of the community and we want show some love to the brilliant volunteers who generously donate their

time litter-picking.

"We're supporting those volunteers by providing a free hot drink as a little thank you for all of their efforts.

"THe BID is also providing 30 high vis vests to identity Bognor Regis' #Litterheroes and the great work they're doing."

Paul Wells, chairman of Bognor Regis BID, also recognised the contribution of other agencies towards the efforts.

"Both Arun district and Bognor Regis town councils have been extremely generous in their support of the BID's initiative, which means the town is going to benefit from additional personnel and resources to focus on areas BID businesses have flagged as problematic."

THe BID will be releasing further information on its Facebook page facebook.com/bognorregisBID - during the coming month.

THe big spring clean is based on two national ideas. One is the long-running spring clean organised by Keep Britain Tidy. THe other is the perfect day scheme put forward by business owner James Timpson in a major report about the future of high streets in the age of internet shopping.

Bognor Regis BID started work last April after the majority of businesses in its area around the town centre backed paying a levy to spend on four objectives -a well-known town centre, a welcoming town centre, an active town centre at night and better parking.

Beer lovers have new festival to look forward to in the town DRINKERS will be raising a glass to the first large-scale beer festival in Bognor Regis.

THree residents - Jamie Boyle, Jason Doyle and Darren Judd - have organised the celebration of cask real ales and ciders for later this month.

THe inaugural event is taking place from March 29-31 at the Gordon Centre in Canada Grove and will be spread over five sessions.

A spokesman said: "THere will be some 32 different cask ales and ten different ciders to be enjoyed with some live music. Food will also be available."

THe first four sessions will have ticket entry. THey are midday-5pm, March 29; 6pm-11.30pm March 29; midday-5pm March 30; and 6pm11.30pm March 30.

THe final session from midday on March 31 will be to drink up the supplies and will have free entry.

It is hoped the festival will be the first of an annual event.

f The dippers before they braved the choppy sea CARER Jade Botting conquered her fear of water for a charity dip on Bognor Regis beach.

THe event for this year's Red Nose Day was the first time she had been into the sea.

She was joined by eight other bathers for the dip which lasted up to five minutes in an air temperature which felt like 8C in the 40mph south-west wind.

Jade, 24, of Yapton, said: "I had never been in the sea before. I wanted to do this for charity.

"THe water was freezing, I can't swim but I felt like doing this for such a good cause.

"I had to go out of my confidence zone.

It is something I have achieved today."

Jade was among the employees at Normanton Lodge Care Home who took part in the dip last Friday. Many were

dressed as superheroes.

THey were joined by some supporters as well to take the total amount raised for the national charity initiative to more than £400.

Jade has worked at the home, in Normanton Avenue, for three years.

She has had a phobia of water since a bad experience in a swimming pool when she was a child.

"I was on a slide and I went under the water and my father had to pull me out," she said. "I was panicking when I was on the beach beforehand.

"I didn't know what to expect. When I came out of the water, I felt like a sense of happiness. It was a great achievement.

"I wish it had been a bit warmer because it was absolutely freezing, especially when the waves came up and hit you."

Home manager Penelope Tyau said:

"We want to do a lot more for charity.

THis is an opportunity for us to do that.

"We are very much a family-orientated home and a lot of our carers have their families here to support them."

Some of the home's relatives were also taken to THe Waverley - where the bathers were able to change and warm up afterwards - to watch the dip opposite in comfort out of the wind.

"THis is also giving our residents to get out," said Penelope. "It shows them there is more than the day-to-day life in the home. It gets them integrating into the community as well.

Red Nose Day was launched in 1988 and takes place in March every two years with hours of coverage on the BBC. Money raised goes towards helping people living tough lives both in the UK and around the world.

An Arun spokeswoman said it was considering how to proceed in the light of Mrs Justice Lang's ruling.

"Essentially, this means that the judge feels that hearing evidence from all parties on this matter would be worthwhile and that Pagham Parish Council has been able to demonstrate that there is sufficient (reason) to justify a formal hearing where this evidence will be heard," she said.

"Arun District Council is in the process of deciding its next steps."

As reported, the oral hearing was held after an initial hearing at the High Court last month rejected the parish council's arguments.

Arun has set aside £105,000 to pay for its legal costs in defending its decision.

THe cabinet members of Arun were told when they agreed to the funding: "THe council will be required to be legally represented by counsel.

"Based on previous judicial reviews, this is likely to be approximately £70,000 for representation and for the work involved in the preparation and attendance at judicial review hearings.

"However, the final costs will be based on a number of factors which are unknown at present."

Alan Pivett, chairman of the Pagam campaign group, said: "THat is a lot of money to be putting to one side to fight a little parish council and the community of Pagham. THe parish council represents the residents of Pagham and we support its efforts."

A HIGH COURT judge has agreed that a fight against new homes in Pagham should continue.

Mrs Justice Lang ruled at an oral hearing on Tuesday that Pagham Parish Council was justified in seeking to challenge the granting of planning permission for the housing.

She allowed parish councillors to proceed to a judicial review on two of the grounds on which they said Arun District Council had erred in approving the development of up to 400 homes.

Parish council clerk Nicola Swann said: "THe case will require two days of court time. We are now waiting for a date to be decided.

"We are also waiting for written confirmation of the judgement, which we will be reading carefully."

THe grounds on which Mrs Justice Lang said the judicial review should proceed were related to heritage matters. THey concern the potential impact of the houses on land south of Summer Lane on the Grade-I listed St THomas a'Becket Church to the south and the advice councillors were given by their planning officers about that effect when they granted planning permission last October.

But Mrs Justice Lang rejected the parish council's attempt to have the permission overturned by saying it failed to take into account Arun's masterplan for future large-scale housing schemes in the area which was intended to ensure a cohesive

` Inquiry backed RESIDENTS of Bognor Regis have supported a call for an independent inquiry into how Arun District Council looks after its properties in a seaside road.

A resolution by Jan Cosgrove at Monday's annual electors' meeting called for the inquiry 'into the neglect of properties owned by Arun District Council and urges the town council to do its utmost to secure this'.

THe motion also asked the town clerk, Glenna Frost, to write to the relevant government secretary of state, James Brokenshire, with the views of the meeting about the matter.

Mr Cosgrove made clear his resolution referred only to buildings in Waterloo Square owned by Arun.

` Jobless figures A SMALL increase in unemployed Arun district residents was seen in the latest statistics this week.

THe total number seeking work had increased by 68, or four per cent, compared to last year, to reach 1,866.

But those aged 18-24 looking for a job decreased by 14, or six per cent, to 229.

A spokesman for Bognor Regis Jobcentre said: "We work closely with local organisations who support our customers.

"THey regularly host a variety of partners who use the Jobcentre facilities to work with their clients, including Citizens Advice, Change, Grow, Live (a charity), My Sisters' House and the probation service."

Prom toilets remain shut

STRONG criticism has been made about the lack of seafront toilets in Bognor Regis.

THe loos installed on the promenade last year have been shut by Arun District Council because of an ongoing dispute with their manufacturer about their condition. Cllr Francis Oppler (LD, Orchard) used last Wedneday’s full council meeting to continue his attacks on the council’s handling of the situation.

He said: “What a disaster. What a catastrophe. I have got considerable correspondence between myself and Denise Vine (Arun’s group head of economy) where I have pointed out on several occasions and I have said in this chamber…the toilets are in the wrong place.

“THey have had a number of other problems. Quite early in the autumn, there were queues of people and families waiting to use them because of a reduction in the number of cubicles.

“Whatever facilities are put back on the seafront, they have got to match the number of cubicles between the men’s and women’s toilets previously or else we will have terrible problems.

“We are a seaside town. THere is a huge demand in the summer. We can’t have sloping shoulders and blame everyone else apart from ourselves. It is about time this council listened to local people.”

Cllr Stephen Haymes, Arun’s cabinet member for technical services, said the toilets’ location was approved by the development control committee of the council.

He said: “THe council remains in dispute with the company that has designed, manufactured and installed the Bognor Regis promenade public toilets.”

He claimed aspects of the structure were faulty, including its roof, and that the council’s officers had spent considerable time trying to find an acceptable solution.

In an attempt, to solve the impasse the council had offered to arrange for the toilets to be inspected independently by a chartered surveyor.

“THe council has elected to continue to proceed with the independent inspection,” he said. THe report was set to be received by the end of next month.

“THe council has agreed to be reasonably bound by the conclusions of this independent inspection,” he said.

To ensure toilets were still available on the seafront, said Cllr Haynes, temporary facilities would be provided. THis will be at least the second summer with temporary toilets. “THe council has not paid for the toilets because this matter remains in dispute pending the outcome of the independent inspection," he said.

Cllr Phil Hitchins, chairman of Arun’s Bognor Regis regeneration subcommittee, said: “We have sited the toilets where the sewage pipes are.

"We can’t go burrowing down under the promenade 20/30ft all the way along it to divert where the sewage goes.

“We would have to shut the seafront for a whole year to divert them but I don’t think anyone in Bognor Regis, including Cllr Oppler, wants that at all.”

Town scheme decision call ELECTORS have demanded a final say on the chosen regeneration scheme for Bognor Regis.

A resolution at the annual electors' meeting on Monday showed unanimous backing for a resolution which called on Arun District Council to enable residents of the wider Bognor Regis area to be able to choose the multi-million pound project.

THis could be achieved with an exhibition of the schemes still able to be delivered for the two sites of the Regis Centre and Hothamton car park, a poll or another method.

But only around ten electors attended the session - held in the new screen at the Bognor Regis Town Council-owned Picturedrome cinema - and were joined by a similar number of residents from neighbouring areas.

THe resolution by Jan Cosgrove also requested the town council to consider the matter and enable residents to make their views known.

He said: "Arun holds this land for the people of Bognor Regis. THe town centre is in desperate need of regeneration to move forward.

"It has been 20 years at least from when this project (regeneration) started and, still, we have no decision about regeneration.

"THere is no money for it. Arun wants the linear park to go ahead because that will increase the value of the land for private flats to be built. THat is not regeneration.

It is merely redevelopment.

"THis can't go on. We really have to have

some settlement here. Something needs to go ahead and needs to go ahead quickly.

"We are being left behind by other seaside towns who are forging ahead with developments and are beginning to reap the benefits of them.

"I despair of Arun. Maybe a new administration after the May elections may see things differently. I have my doubts.

His resolution was backed by fellow Bognor Regis resident Steve Goodheart.

He said: "THe shenanigans going on around Bognor Regis, as Jan has indicated, have been going on for many, many years. We are being let down."

Matt Stanley told the meeting on Monday every method of determining public opinion had rejected Arun's version of regeneration for a linear park on Hothamton and a winter garden and bigger theatre at the Regis Centre.

"Arun don't appear to be listening to anything that is being said," he said.

Another resolution decisively backed at the meeting, by Jim Brooks, called for any regeneration scheme to feature beach access and an entertainment venue for shows and exhibitions to increase leisure opportunities in the town.

Nothing had happened 20 years after plans for a beach ramp were drawn up, he said.

He said: "It is absolutely wrong we still have a situation where families with prams, tiny tots and disabled people can't get on to our sand anywhere along on our large beach."

Butlin's pool will open next month A PUBLIC opening date has been confirmed for the new swimming pool at Butlin's in Bognor Regis.

THe first swimmers will be able to enjoy the £40m Splash venue on April 6.

THe new pool has a host of bespoke features. THese include what is said to be the world's first helter skelter water slide inside a pool.

Seaside garden rapids and stick of rock slides have also been built into the large pool on the eastern side of the holiday resort. Quieter areas will enable young children to build up their confidence.

Move fear for centre A PLEA has been made for a suitable building to enable a women's centre to stay in Bognor Regis.

THe lack of sufficient space is forcing My Sisters' House to consider leaving the town where it was started by its chief executive, Julie Budge.

Mrs Budge used the Bognor Regis annual electors' meeting on Monday to highlight the plight of the community interest company.

"I do not want to move My Sisters' House to Chichester or Littlehampton because I have grown it here," she said. "But we can't find space which fits us.

"We are working out of four different spaces. I want to keep My Sister's House in Bognor Regis. But, if I can't keep it here, I will move it out."

She highlighted an empty commercial building in Shripney Road with 2,500sq ft both of office space and commercial space.

"THat would not be just for us but for three to five charities together in a space of that size," she said.

Backing My Sister's House would also keep jobs in Bognor Regis as well as supporting community organisations.

She made her plea to West Sussex County Council leader Louise Goldsmith, who was guest speaker at the meeting, and Cllr Stephen Reynolds, town mayor of Bognor Regis.

Cllr Mrs Goldsmith said: "We have looked at several sites but none have fitted the bill."

THese included county council-owned locations in Selsey and Littlehampton.

"I will take this back and we will work with you.

THis is one of those things we have to work together on," she said. "If Bognor Regis Town Council has a look, who knows what could happen?"

Cllr Mrs Goldsmith praised the work of My Sister's House, which she has visited. "We need people like Julie in our community," she added.

My Sister's House has its main premises in London Road and has helped 750 women in the past three years.

As reported, it was awarded a £370,850 grant from the National Lottery earlier this month. It helps women in abusive situations and also holds enterprise and self-confidence courses.

"We wanted a pool that allowed them to enjoy it and create an experience that takes our Bognor Regis resort to a whole new level.

"We are confident we have achieved that and the unique features such as the helter skelter will, we believe, make ours the best pool in Europe."

THe entire pool covers some 6,300sq m to make it almost a third larger than the site's existing pool. About 950 people will be able to use it at the same time.

THe pool reflects the past with an art deco design and a traditional fountain.

But it has modern energy efficiency and aspects like changing rooms big enough for families.

A MOTORIST with potential links to Bognor Regis is being sought by police.

THe distinctive Porsche, pictured below, has been recently seen around the town and Chichester.

THe Porsche Boxster S was involved in a collision with a black Kia Cee’d on the A259, close to the junction with New Courtwick Lane, about 6am on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

However, police are keen to identify the driver of the Porsche, which is uninsured and notified as off-road. and officers believe the driver could be local to the area.

Warning over social care A COUNCIL leader said social care in West Sussex was ‘teetering on the edge of a cliff’ after a report showed more than one-in-five of the county’s care homes was performing poorly.

Information from the charity Independent Age showed 22.1 per cent of the homes had been rated ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

THis compared to 17.3 per cent in January, 2018.

Among them was the Royal Bay Residential Care Home, in Aldwick Road, Bognor Regis, which was shut down last week after the CQC raised ‘serious concerns’.

Peter Lamb (L, Northgate), of Crawley Borough Council, said: “Families here in West Sussex need reassurance that vulnerable relatives will be getting the best quality care.

"But our care homes are failing to provide good quality care.

“Social care is teetering on the edge of a cliff after nine years of Tory cuts to West Sussex’s budget. If ministers don’t act now, things will get much worse.”

THe report rated ten care homes as ‘outstanding’, 265 as ‘good’, 74 as ‘requires improvement’ and four as ‘inadequate’.

Looking at the national picture, the report showed care home ratings had dropped in more than one-third – 37 per cent – of local authorities.

Describing the figures as ‘extremely concerning’, it added: “With an ageing population and increased pressures on social care, it is imperative that the social care system is of a sufficient quality to

meet the current and future demands.

“THis trend shows the system is not ready and the variation in care home quality is only increasing.

“Access to a choice of good quality care home settings is still very much a matter of luck.”

Paul McKay, the county council’s director of adults’ services, said: “A number of the services that are rated as inadequate in these figures are no longer operating but are still registered with the CQC. “We are committed to providing high quality care for our customers and we have been working very closely with a number of care home providers over the last two years on improving quality, safeguarding and supporting providers with recruitment and retention.

“THis work will continue and we would want to see significant improvements in future CQC inspection reports.

“I want to reassure the public that we will be working closely with all care providers within West Sussex to support them in providing the highest quality care.”

It followed this with a more recent inspection which led it to take urgent action. Its deputy chief inspector of adult social care in the south said it had found a significant deterioration in the care provided at the home in the past year.

Bandstand's future 'should be as venue for entertainments' MUSICIANS should be given priority on the seafront bandstand in Bognor Regis, one of the town's councillors has said.

Cllr Jim Brooks said he wanted the £50,000 lottery funding Arun District Council had received to improve the structure to be spent ensuring it was used for its original purpose.

"I would hate to see it become a seating area for a concession. We need to keep it as an entertainment area as well," he said.

THe bandstand was so poorly used because of a lack of wind shields and a public address system and the

difficulty in trying to get hold of the key to unlock the access barriers.

Bognor Regis regeneration subcommittee chairman Cllr Phil Hitchins said: "THe seating in the bandstand, if it goes in, will be removable.

"We want it used as it should, as a bandstand as well.

"It's a beautiful structure, it was never at risk (from Arun's seafront vision) and we want to encourage people to use it."

Among the work planned for the grant will be the replacement of the low level railings and possible seats for a new cafe planned just to the east of it.

THe run began at the start of this month. By Saturday morning, she had completed six hours of runs. Another colleague had achieved the same.

Some of the running took place on a treadmill in the branch and the rest on streets around the runners' homes.

4Sight Vision Support employees were also present on Saturday afternoon to publicise the work of the Victoria Drive charity around West Sussex.

As well as the leaflets, their publicity material included simulation specs to show wearers the effects of different sight conditions.

A collection tin was also available for any loose change but the event was not intended to be about fundraising.

"We could repeat this every month or six weeks," said Cassie. "THere are a lot of good local charities in the town."

THe Santander employees were among those who ran for a total of 24 hours to raise awareness of 4Sight Vision Support.

THe three members of staff at the High Street branch were joined by family members and other employees last Saturday to finish the challenge.

Casse Partridge, a customer services advisor in the branch, said: "We have such a big space here and Santander likes to get involved with the community.

"One of the ways we can do that with this space is to invite different charities to have a stand to tell our customers about their work.

"It's all about spreading awareness.

THe people who come in here are not necessarily the people they would usually see.

"It could be a person will take a leaflet to find out more or they could volunteer.

It would all help the charity.

` Viaduct closures TEMPORARY lane closures on the Bognor Regis relief road will start next Monday.

THe closures will be needed to enable repairs to take place on the A259 Stainton Viaduct on the road.

THey will continue until April 18.

A spokesman from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes said: "To minimise any impact, there will be traffic lights in operation and we will be working on one half of the road before moving over to the other half.

"THe remedial works are part of the legal agreements between Barratt Developments and West Sussex County Council for the adoption of the structure. THey are to address a minor problem of leaking expansion joints."

THe relief road was built by the developers as one of the conditions of receiving planning permission for the hundreds of homes on the Blakes Mead estate in Felpham.

Camera fans snap up another award SKILLED photographers in Middletonon-Sea Camera Club have again snapped their way to an annual award.

THirteen of the club's members attended this year's MSW Inter-Club Competition and walked away with the MSW Shield for the fourth year running.

THe latest of their impressive successes against their rival Selsey and Witterings camera clubs came after each club provided 20 images for the judge, David Eastley, to consider and give marks out of 20. THe top 30 prints overall were projected and marks given.

A Middleton club spokesman said: "THe remaining 30 images were projected with valuable comments made by the judge.

"By the end of the evening, there was a total of 16 images being held back.

"Once these were marked, it was announced that Middleton had won the competition with 355 points.

"Selsey were in second place with 340 points and Witterings had 328 points."

Members at Selsey were the perfect hosts for the competition night.

THey supplied all the attendees with a tasty buffet during the interval.

Middleton's success also extended to the raffle which

took place in the interval.

THe six prizes won by its members' tickets were more than half of the prizes.

In 2020, the Middleton club will host the competition to seek to retain the shield.

Initial slipper swap success OLD pairs of slippers were handed in at a first Bognor Regis event to help residents to stay steady.

More than 70 people traded in their worn-out footwear for comfy new ones at an event at the town’s library.

THe slipper swap was held by West Sussex County Council as part of a programme to assist men and women to reduce their risk of falls and serious injuries. It is believed to have been the first time the council has held the event.

Bognor Regis resident Nicole Cooper was among those who went along. She had suffered two falls and was impressed enough with her new slippers to convince her husband, John, to be fitted

for a new pair as well.

Cllr Amanda Jupp, the council's cabinet member for adults and health, also attended. She said: "I really enjoyed having the chance to meet and speak with the residents who came along to the swap.

"I would urge anyone shuffling around at home in a pair of slippers which are beyond their best to try and come along to our next slipper swap events."

THe four-hour event also had a range of healthy living information on show.

THe next slipper swaps are taking place from 10am-2pm next THursday at Chichester Library and the same time next day at Crawley Library.

Students wowed at Wembley with the chance to meet stars A TEAM of Bognor Regis students got up close to A-list celebrities as a reward for making a difference.

THe Regis School's 15 rights respecting ambassadors were among those from a handful of schools around the country invited to meet and greet the celebrity presenters as they arrived for the latest We Day UK concert.

Plenty of selfies were taken and autographs gained of the likes of Brit Award winning singer-songwriter Tom Walker, singer and presenter Pixie Lott and internationally famous singersongwriter Liam Payne at the event in Wembley Arena.

But the day was also notable for the inspiring messages and achievements from the speakers. THey included Prince Harry.

THe royal's keynote comments were a call to action on themes as diverse as climate change and mental health.

His wife, Megan, joined him on stage to add to the excitement and leave memories which will last for a lifetime.

Year 9 student Megan Bryant-Lawson said: "Personally, the best part of WE Day for me was hearing about the stories of some people and how they overcame difficulties, voicing their problems and creating an inspirational solution - a solution that made a significant difference not only to them, but others in the same situation.

"THe whole day was extremely inspirational and moving."

Dawson Underwood, of Year 7, said: "Personally, my favourite part was listening to the people's stories and what they did to fix (their difficulties).

"THis made me reflect on the obstacles I come across every day such as illness and mental health.

Year 9 pupil Phoebe Reeves said: "THe best part of We Day was the new things I learnt and how inspired I was to put myself forward to do new things.

"I loved everything about the experience and I wouldn't change one thing."

THe We charity is a worldwide movement which is dedicated to empowering change to lift communities out of poverty in a

sustainable way.

Its annual days celebrate young people making a difference in their areas and around the world.

THe Regis School students were invited to take part, after being involved in previous years, because of their work in promoting recycling as members of the school's green team.

THey were among 12,000 young people from around the UK who were present.

Year 12 student Johan Keijser-Petch said: "THe best part of We Day was the community feel about it.

"It's as if everyone is one big family coming together to create a real and lasting change in this country and far afield."

A school spokesman said: "THere is no doubt the experience will stay with them for a long time and they will be empowered to continue their work as ambassadors for environmental issues both in our school community and beyond."

Also present at Wembley Arena for the day earlier this month was a group of students from Felpham Community College.

THe Year 12 and 13 students were chosen for the commitment and work

they have done within the college's sixth form charity committee and with extracurricular activities which enhance the life of the college.

One of the college's music teachers, Nicole Matthews, said: "THe speakers were truly inspirational.

"THe students and I voted Julia Gillard as the best. She is a former Australian president and she really motivated the crowd with what you can achieve if you set your mind to it.

"Barany Ndume was also amazing. He is a former child refugee from Congo who achieved worldwide attention for the 2009 International Children's Peace Prize - his story was both heart-breaking and empowering.

"THe Felpham students who attended have worked really hard at the college supporting our charity committee and extra events on top of their school work.

Year 13 students Megan Balcome and Harry Tilbury were among those who enjoyed themselves.

THey described speaker Isabelle Weall as awesome for overcoming the amputation of her arms and legs.

` School plan plea AN ALTERNATIVE location should be found for a proposed secondary school in Ford, a councillor has warned.

Cllr Dr James Walsh (LD, Beach) said he was concerned only one site had been put forward by Arun District Council for the ten-form entry school to cope with the extra children due to be living in the proposed homes in the villages.

"I am really concerned at the recommendation before us," he told councillors last week.

"It seems to be sensible to have a plan B. I am very rarely in favour of compulsory purchase orders unless it is in very over-riding circumstances for the community.

"So, to do so, if our plan A fails and there is no alternative strategy in place it could put us in a very difficult situation."

Ford was put forward as the sole preferred site by Arun's planning policy sub-committee, as reported.

Its chairman, Cllr Ricky Bower (C, East Preston), said the final decision would be made jointly with the county council.

"I accept it may well be that particular site will fail to come forward and we will consider the alternatives as and when that becomes reality," he said.

` Vehicles entered TWO vehicles in a Bognor Regis road were broken into during the same week.

THe first crime in Sylvan Way saw two sets of keys stolen between March 1 and 4. THis was followed by the theft of sun glasses on March 6.

Awards presented to district's youths A RECORD number of young people from around the Arun district were put forward for an annual awards scheme.

A total of 61 individuals and group members were nominated for this year's Rotary in Arun Youth Community Awards.

THe awards were presented last week in a ceremony held by the four Rotary clubs across the district.

THeir spokesman, Peter Stemp, said: "Young people's exceptional achievements in supporting and helping others have been recognised and rewarded for a fifth year.

"THe 2019 Rotary in Arun Youth Community Awards have been held to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful work of young people from across the Arun district.

"All the nominees had shown themselves to be exceptionally caring, especially brave, or generously giving of their time to volunteer or raise money for charity."

THe nominations were whittled down by the Arun Youth Council to select a winner in each of the three age categories and the one group category.

THe winners received a trophy and a gift token in recognition of their

achievements. THe ceremony took place at a packed Windmill Entertainment Centre in Littlehampton last Wednesday.

THe winners were: Age 11-14: Sally Atkins; commended: Lacey Matthews.

Age 15 - joint winners: Alex Hall and Ellie Pett. commended: Holly Hawkins.

Bypass delay is announced CONSULTATION will take place this summer about latest plans for the A27 Arundel bypass.

Highways England has announced the timing in its update about the £100m-250m new road.

A spokesman said: "Following our preferred route announcement in May, 2018, we began carrying out our studies and surveys of the preferred route and surrounding area to progress preliminary design for the A27 Arundel bypass.

"In doing so, we have discovered new and important information that could affect our decision around the most appropriate option for the improvement scheme.

"Our priority is to ensure we fully consider our customers and communities in the design and delivery of all road improvement schemes, so we will be holding a further public consultation to ensure the option we choose is the best solution for the area.

THis is planned for late summer 2019."

THe timing is a delay from the date of spring 2019 given by Highways England last year.

"We are currently carrying out further studies to develop a more detailed understanding of the new information and what it might mean for all road improvement options," the spokesman said.

"During the further consultation, you will have a chance to review all of this information and have your say on the

proposed improvement options for the A27 around Arundel."

THe choice of Highways England for the bypass route is option 5A. But this has been fiercely opposed by residents in Binsted.

Its route would divide the village into two and pass through the ancient Binsted Woods.

THe line of the road was subject to two judical reviews which were withdrawn when Highways England said it would consider the additional facts.

THe spokesman said: "As the main route serving the south coast, the A27 corridor is crucial to the region's success.

"A population of 750,000 relies on the A27 and growth plans for the region mean this number is set to increase.

"Currently, the stretch of road through Arundel is a single carriageway, which causes a daily build-up of traffic that costs commuters, businesses, communities and visitors valuable time and money.

"Frustrated motorists often resort to rat-running through local roads that are not designed for the noise, pollution and through traffic, causing damage to the local environment and leading to a higher incident rate than average."

After the consultation, the latest timetable from Highways England shows the new preferred route will be announced in summer 2020 and will be followed by more consultation.

If this is favourable, work should start on the road two years later.

Euro march pledge SUPPORTERS of Europe have pledged to represent Bognor Regis at a major march tomorrow.

Some 50 backers of the EU are expected to travel from the town to the People's Vote March at midday in London.

THey are being organised by town's new branch of the European Movement.

Some of its members put up a stand in the London Road precinct on Saturday to state their case to shoppers.

David Meagher, one of the group's members, said: "More and more people join us every time we go to London.

"Hopefully, the numbers on the march will reach a million. THere are a wide number of other groups taking part.

"THree years ago there was a vote - but it was a blind vote because people didn't know what they were voting for.

"Now we do know, we think people should have the chance to vote again.

"THe government has had different votes on this matter. Why can't voters have another one?"

THe latest town centre presence followed the group's initial stand two weeks earlier.

"Considering this was an area which voted 63 per cent to leave, the reaction was more mixed and more friendly towards us than it might have been," said Mr Meagher.

"It was better than I expected and the mood in this town seems to have changed."

THe European Movement, formed in 1949, has long had a Portsmouth and Chichester branch, which covers eight MPs' constituencies.

Knife crimes KNIFE crime in Sussex was more than two times higher than actually recorded over the past three years, due to a ‘system issue’.

Between 2016 and 2018, while completing data about each incident, some officers did not tick a ‘semi-hidden’ box to say a blade had been involved.

THe information was shared by Deputy Chief Constable Jo Shiner during a meeting with Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne.

DCC Shiner assured Mrs Bourne knife crime in the county was relatively ‘still a very unusual crime’ and, even with the correct figures used, Sussex was midtable, compared with similar forces.

In 2016, 296 such crimes were recorded – the figure was actually 665; in 2017, 305 cases were recorded – the figure was actually 729; and in 2018, 298 cases were recorded, when it should have been 827.

In line with police forces across the country, the figures did not include incidents of possession – where someone was caught carrying a blade but had not used it.

Between 2016 and 2018, those figures rose from 540 cases to 594.

Explaining the computer issue, DCC Shiner told Mrs Bourne that the correct data would be sent to the Home Office.

She said: “When there is a crime which is a knife-enabled crime, then there is a box officers need to tick in order to positively say a knife was involved.

“But it’s at a really granular level that that box was almost semi-hidden, if you like, amongst the systems. So we’re putting that right.”

Keen to reassure the people of Sussex that the county ‘really is a very safe place to live’, she added: “If you look at the

figures which would be corrected had that box been ticked, then we would be mid-table in our most similar forces around the number of knife crimes that we would have under that category.

“So there was a recording issue which was completely down to the system.

“We’ve uncovered it, we’ve got the solution in progress – but we’re still comfortable with where we are, having included those additional offences within the numbers.”

Sussex Police has carried out continuous early intervention and prevention work to help reduce knife crime and explain to young people in particular the dangers of carrying a blade.

THe work includes visits to schools and colleges, carrying out test purchases in shops, and opening knife amnesty bins, where people can hand over their blades.

Mrs Bourne shared news from Crawley police where officers had visited a school to talk to youngsters – and one young student placed three knives, which he had been carrying for ‘protection’, in the bin.

DCC Shiner stressed the importance of working with schools, colleges, licensing agencies and trading standards to tackle knife crime.

She added: “THe last thing that they want to do is to deal with the consequences of somebody who has been hurt – or a young person who has impacted the rest of their life by being arrested and dealt with for possession or injury. So it’s important to all of us that we tackle this. But it’s got to be everybody that does so, not just the police.”

Fight for a cancer treatment goes on A FRUSTRATED councillor has hit out at the ‘endless layers of bureaucracy’ in the NHS as the fight for a cancer treatment unit in West Sussex continues.

Patients in the county currently face long and painful journeys to Brighton, Guildford and London to receive radiotherapy.

West Sussex is the only county in England not to have radiotherapy equipment, known as linacs, within its boundary.

Both the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance and NHS England have supported the idea of housing two of the machines at St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester – but progress on actually getting it done seems to have stalled.

At a meeting of the county council’s health & adult social care committee, members were given an update on a recent public consultation on radiotherapy services in England.

Fiona Mackison, of NHS England South East, told the meeting there was nothing in the new service specifications to stop the plans for St Richard’s.

But that wasn’t good enough for Cllr Dr James Walsh,

Cllr Walsh said he was ‘slightly dismayed’ by the tone of the report, adding: “THere’s nothing in here to say it can’t happen?

“What I want to hear is a commitment that it’s going to happen and we’re going to have our two linacs at Chichester within, let me say, two years.”

Phil McNamara, of the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, told the meeting that two years was unlikely, adding: “We will categorically be immediately pushing forward with our plans for West Sussex, to say that we again continue to endorse the two linac position.”

But he pointed out that the next move had to see NHS Trust providers express an interest and come forward to develop a business plan.

It was pointed out that such interest had been expressed by the Western Sussex Hospitals Trust at a previous meeting.

Committee chairman Bryan Turner agreed he would write to the trust and ask them to ‘start their process going as soon as possible’.

` Funding cuts

Bags of help for citizens advice ARUN AND Chichester Citizens Advice has been chosen for a fundraising scheme.

THe independent charity has been chosen by Tesco to be part of its Bags of Help Grant Scheme.

Bags of Help is Tesco’s local community grant scheme, where the money raised by the sale of carrier bags is used to fund thousands of local projects in communities right across the UK. THe Citizens Advice project will be put forward to a customer vote in Tesco stores in Midhurst and Haslemere during March and April, 2019.

Not many people realise that Arun and Chichester Citizens Advice is a registered charity.

Almost 20,000 people across the Arun and Chichester districts are helped every year, with all kinds of issues - from debt,

benefits, and housing to consumer, energy and legal problems (and everything in between).

THey are 100 per cent independent and impartial and rely on funders, donations and their volunteers to provide our vital services.

THree community projects in the Post areas will be voted on by customers in Tesco stores.

Following the vote, the project that receives the most votes will receive a grant of up to £4,000, second place receiving up to £2,000 and third place up to £1,000. Customers are given a token when they buy their shopping that they can use to make their choice using the voting units in most stores.

Participating stores are: Tesco Superstore in Haslemere and Tesco Express at 10 North Street, Midhurst.

A SCHEME providing emergency help for the poorest people in West Sussex has had its funding slashed by more than 80 per cent since its launch.

THe Local Assistance Network was set up in 2013/14 to help those most in need in times of crisis.

THe assistance scheme has seen the council give everything from food and clothing to travel costs and furniture to people in dire need.

Until 2015, money for the fund came from the Department of Work and Pensions, but when this was dropped it fell to the council to plug the gap.

Figures from campaigners Church Action on Poverty, showed the amount of money put into the service dropped from £1.25m in 2013/14 to £788,200 in 2018/19 – a fall of 36.9 per cent.

THe council recently cut funding again – to £200,000 in 2019/20 – a total fall of 84 per cent.

West Sussex has received 27,589 applications for help since the scheme was launched, with 4,976 grants approved in 2018/19.

Since 2013, benefit delays have been the main reason people have been forced to ask for help.

Amanda Jupp, cabinet member for adults and health, said: "THe council is still investing £200,000 in 2019/20 which is to help people who have no other ways of getting assistance and are – for example – on low incomes or facing an unforeseen emergency.

"As a compassionate society, we need to ensure the system can prevent people being swept further into difficulty."

Chichester Down Syndrome Support Group have been invited to perform at Dance House in Bognor Regis at the Regis Centre on Tuesday, which couldn’t be timed better as it is World Down Syndrome Day. THis builds on their recent successful weekend performing in FestivALL in Chichester, on March 16 and 17, where they put on a spectacular routine as part of the celebration of people with additional needs.

Dance crew organiser Kath Lake said: "THe children are so excited to be

performing in a theatre. We are so proud of how far they have come over the past year, and with the expert guidance and boundless energy of their teacher, Suzanne Hill, it seems that the sky is the limit.

"THe local community embraces their talents and gives them so many opportunities to shine, which is lovely to be part of."

Suzanne added: "I am totally blown away by the dance crew and so proud of them. THey are all making fantastic progress, not just with their dancing, but with listening, communication and confidence.

"So many milestones being reached and smashed. We are all having the best time!”

THe dance crew consists of 17 dedicated members aged from two to 26. THey meet

weekly in Rose Green for lessons and rehearsals. THis would not be possible without the support of grants from the Arun Wellbeing Fund and the Pagham Pram Race, for which the dance crew is very grateful.

Over the last year the dance crew have performed at THe Chichester Canal for the Dragon Boat Race, the Aldingbourne Centre, BRASS Christmas fair, Chichester District Scouts Box Cart racing at Goodwood and the Bognor Regis Hospital Summer Fair.

Kath and Suzanne say they are grateful for all the event organisers who have put their faith in the dance crew, and hope that along the way they may have dispelled some myths and altered perceptions.

Sir Bognor Regis was excluded from the recent A29 realignment consultation exhibitions.

THe exhibition literature claims that 'THe exhibition presents the proposed scheme which will create better connections into Bognor Regis'. If one of the objectives of the scheme is to create better connections into Bognor Regis, then why was Bognor Regis excluded from the consultation exhibitions?

If claims are being made for Bognor Regis then the town has a right to be consulted.

Replacing a level crossing at Woodgate and a mini roundabout at Eastergate with seven roundabouts and the traffic generated by over 4,000 new houses will not 'create better connections into Bognor Regis'. It will make the situation much worse.

In fact, it could be a catastrophe for Bognor Regis.

I am concerned that the claim “... the proposed scheme which will

create better connections into Bognor Regis” is a fallacy (false argument) deliberately constructed to leverage public funding. Public funding should only be permitted if this claimed benefit can be proved.

Government is proposing to spend £300m on a bypass at Arundel - to improve traffic flow on the A27.

THe county council is proposing to spend £55m (part public money part developer contribution) on the A29 realignment.

Both schemes will, in essence, meet at the Fontwell roundabout where traffic will grind to a halt. £355m of public expenditure could be completely undermined by failure to consider the obvious. Why have no credible solutions to the obvious bottleneck at Fontwell been considered/ proposed before the county council commenced promoting this A29 realignment scheme?

THe university's vice-chancellor talks of attracting 'visitors, shoppers and workers', while Arun's Karl Roberts says they aim to 'increase the dwell time that people spend in the town centre'.

Sadly, the only people whose 'dwell time' in Bognor Regis seems to be endless are the increasing numbers of vagrants. What exactly

are the authorities doing about this?

Because the answer appears to be absolutely nothing.

THe chap who has set up home next to one of the businesses has been there for over a year!

No wonder other homeless people are making a beeline for the town.

THey know perfectly well that nothing will happen other than they get mattresses, tents, blankets and all the comforts of home given to them by the bleeding hearts.

Why would any tourist, any business, want to come to a place that

increasingly looks like a shanty town?

Perhaps if the police stopped driving past them, or giggling with them, and actually started enforcing a few laws, we'd have less intimidating, more welcoming streets.

Sir, Surely it is time the authorities did something about the people sleeping in the streets. Some of them have lots of personal belongings making it dangerous for old people and partially-sighted people.

Down the side of Sports Direct, there are three to four people sleeping. THey have a tent, coffee table, etc. Most of the day they are not there, just a pile of junk.

I read in a paper one council had issued them with a notice saying the beds etc will be moved in five days if they are still there and dumped. Time for action, to make our town safe and tidy again.

Having started in Bognor, with regular sessions for children and adults based at THe Regis Centre, Suzy is now offering an introductory workshop for children aged between six and 12 years in Chichester.

THis free workshop will be at the Jubilee Hall, New Park Centre, New Park Road, on Saturday, March 30, 1.30pm - 3.30pm. Although there is no charge, participants are asked to book through the website at: www.dramatis.co.uk To give children some interest and worthwhile activity during the Easter holidays workshops, from April 8-11 then April 15-18, are also being organized at the school's usual venue, Genesis Art Centre, and will have a theme of magic and musicals. As well as performing, the children have plenty of time for games and social activities so they can make new friends.

Describing her aim in running the classes, Suzy says: "Whilst some drama schools are known for cultivating a competitive environment and pushing people to their limits to get the best out of them, Dramatis focuses on nurturing individual personalities and skills."

Dramatis is also branching out with a community group called Dramatis Outreach, which is supported by a committee of dedicated volunteers and drama enthusiasts including local support worker Juli Willis, lecturer in child studies Rob Abbott and manager of Sussex Clubs for Children Keely Hardy.

Its aims are to work within the community delivering drama projects for therapeutic effect. THe first project will be working with adults living with mental health illness, working towards a radio play

with Radio Respect (CIC).

Suzy has been teaching for more than ten years.

Having recognized the enjoyment and therapeutic benefits drama brought to her students, she has been an activity club manager for adults with mild to moderate dementia, running a fun packed programme of drama activities and games to promote wellbeing. Her varied schedule of activities and patient approach led her to win the ‘Engagement and Wellbeing Specialist of the Year’ at the Hertfordshire Care Awards.

Since setting up Dramatis in 2017, Suzy has extended the range of training offered to include public speaking for adults, private tuition for students seeking help with professional drama exams, school workshops, Act Your Age group for adults and themed children's parties.

Viewing each student as part of an extended family, Dramatis believes that building people up, not breaking them down, is the key to success -both on and off the stage.

Celebrating mothers everywhere Mother's Day MOTHERING SUNDAY is a holiday celebrated by Christians in United Kingdom, Ireland and some other countries.

It falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Day. Once observed as a day on which people would visit their "mother" church, it has become an occasion for honouring the mothers of children and giving them presents.

Mothering Sunday became a day when domestic servants were given a day off to visit their 'mother church', usually with their own mothers and other family members. It was often the only time that whole families could gather together, since on other days they were prevented from doing so by conflicting working hours.

Although it is increasingly being called Mother's Day, that name properly belongs to the secular holiday which originated in the United States in the early 20th century and is quite distinct from the original tradition.

THe modern holiday of Mother's Day in the United States, which is fixed as the second Sunday in May there and in a number of other countries, was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.

Anna's mother died in 1905 and she wanted to honour her mother, Ann, who had been a peace worker and campaigner. Saying a mother is "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world", Anna invited other families to join her on the anniversary of her mother's death to think of their own mothers, which later led to the creation of a public holiday.

Today, in the United Kingdom, Mothering Sunday is a reason for families to get together, perhaps at a special event or for a meal to celebrate and thank their mothers.

Gaelic singer travels furthest south ever

Renowned engraver to tell of career Malcolm Appleby Wednesday, March 27, at 7pm

AKIN - Arundel’s Creative Collective welcomes hugely respected silversmith and metal engraver Malcolm Appleby to talk at their next "show and tell” session.

Malcolm has spent his career of more than 50 years dedicated to engraving and pushing the boundaries of metalwork and will talk to AKIN about his craft and his influences.

Malcolm studied at Central School of Art, Sir John Cass and the Royal College of Art in London before establishing his studio in Scotland in 1969.

He discovered gun engraving while at art school and over the years has created wonderful work such as the Raven Gun for the Royal Armouries.

Reggae band celebrate 40th anniversary with tour UB40 Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth PO1 2AB Friday, March 29, 7pm www.portsmouthguildhall.org.uk AS PART of their 40th anniversary celebrations, Britain’s world-famous reggae band UB40 released their first new studio album in five years in September, 2018, and are now on tour, including a date at Portsmouth Guildhall.

Titled For THe Many, the album will be the Birmingham reggae veterans’ 19th studio album, featuring UB40 founder members Robin Campbell (co-vocals/guitar), Brian Travers (saxophone/keyboards), Jimmy Brown (drums), Earl Falconer (bass/keyboards/vocals) and Norman Hassan (percussion/ vocals), and long-time members Duncan Campbell (vocals), Martin Meredith (saxophone), Laurence Parry (trumpet) and Tony Mullings (keyboards).

He then used those skills to become a silversmith and metal engraver and is known for his imaginative use of line and form.

His work can be seen in the National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and Crafts Council, London. Commissions include work in 10 Downing Street as well as the London Assay Office and the Residence of the First Minister for Scotland.

Malcolm was made MBE for services to hand engraving in 2014.

THe talk, on Wednesday, March 27, at 7pm at THe Victoria Institute, 10 Tarrant Street, Arundel, is free for AKIN members to attend but tickets cost £5 for non-members.

Jo, who was born in Edinburgh, began learning the saxophone at 15 and in 1992 she won THe Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year. Inspired and encouraged by local Edinburgh musicians, Jo went on to study saxophone at the Guildhall School of music in London.

Humph's fun-filled and melodic approach to music was to be a huge influence. Turkish delights bring warmth and satisfaction

Although it only has been opened for a few weeks, the owners spent months converting the former shop into a smart, bright comfortable venue, which has the unusual feature of an open cooking area where customers can see chefs at work at the

barbecue-type grill.

As three of us were dining, we were able to sample a number of dishes with choices guided by the smiling and helpful staff, although the menu also gave good descriptions for people who are unfamiliar with Turkish cuisine.

While trying to decide from the long list of both hot and cold starters, we enjoyed olives with flat bread, which also came in useful to accompany the moreish dips and filling lentil soup. An interesting small touch was a fresh lemon slice to squeeze into the delicious soup.

`New luxury restaurant in Chichester

- no easy task with so much choice, which included vegetarian offerings, fish and salads. Most of the meat dishes are based on lamb or chicken and we took the advice of our waiter and plumped for a lamb shank, lamb shish and chargrilled king prawns.

My lamb shank was a substantial piece of deliciously tender meat, which fell off the bone, while the shish was equally succulent but with slightly more of a kick, an acknowledgement of the restaurant's use of herbs flown in from an organic farm in Turkey. THe prawns disappeared quickly - a sure sign of decent cooking.

THe shank was served as a casserole with carrots and small potatoes, the shish had a

delicate yogurt and lemon sauce while bulgar wheat and salad were served alongside.

Although we were probably too full for dessert, we made an effort to try wonderfully crispy yet soft baklava accompanied with a superb raspberry sorbet and vanilla ice cream.

Turkish wine is available alongside bottles from more usual wine-producing countries and Reina Kitchen is making a feature of its cocktails, including house specials.

THe restaurant offers weekday two-course lunches at £11.45.

Thai delights from a family tradition direct to your plate

By Katherine Denny 6-7 The Esplanade, Bognor Regis PO21 1NY 01243 862525 www.tuptimsiam.co.uk A SHORT stroll past THe Steyne in Bognor Regis will bring you to the door of Tuptim Siam and the warm welcome of THai authenticity.

As we were being seated for lunch, the couple at the next table were putting their coats on to leave and merrily assured us we’d enjoy our meal. THeir good wishes clearly weren’t unfounded as we heard the gentleman at the table behind explain that he hadn’t had dinner the night before so he could order two main meals.

THe extensive menu was enough to tempt us to over-order, too, though we sensibly began with a platter of mixed starters to share. We expected the standard selection of enjoyable but often boughtin and forgettable chicken satay sticks, crab cakes and spring rolls with the obligatory sweet chilli dip.

Instead, we received truly restaurant quality morsels, brought to the table by executive chef Kit Khunia who delighted in explaining which of the five freshly made sauces complemented each food.

Like all good chefs, Kit began cooking at a young age with his mother. At the age of ten he was promoted from carrying and washing up to actual cooking and by 12 he became her official taste tester.

His professional career followed a similar trajectory, working his way up through cheffing positions to come full circle as a taster in Mayfair restaurants and five star hotels.

Tuptim Siam has given him the opportunity to come back to his passion of creating dishes personally for

customers with whom he delights in interacting.

Special dishes are even ordered ‘off menu’ by regulars and Kit loves the creativity - though does request that you phone in advance if you would like him to prepare something not listed on the menu.

Having been tipped off, we were lucky enough to sample one of these, a beef massaman which is only available on THursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as it is

cooked to a sweetly melting tenderness for three hours.

My friend was less enthusiastic about tryong the sweet and sour chicken - one of Tuptim's most popular dishes - as she usually finds it a sugary, synthetic disappointment. She was soon eating her words however, with sticky moreish mouthfuls of chicken and the loquacious Kit was happy to provide the answer; no

artificial colours or flavourings are used in any of his dishes and the balance of sweetness is created with fruit juices instead.

Even the side dishes were praise-worthy. We plumped for the special fried rice, which lived up to its name, being great fluffy grains interspersed with enormous prawns, chicken, peppers and alive with flavour.

Desserts, aside from ice cream, are usually only available at the popular Sunday buffets. THese are lunchtime extravaganzas of well known favourites and exotic flavours, with a selection and variety you won’t know how to say no to. THe fourth Sunday of every month switches to an evening buffet, at which you’ll need to book or risk not getting a seat.

We tottered out in to the fresh air to walk off some of our over-indulgence along the beach, vowing to come again very soon and clutching the bag of leftovers we couldn’t bear to leave behind.

Community News & Views fit A resort g for a Kin IT WAS 90 years ago King George V and Queen Mary came to Bognor for their historic visit.

THe Bognor Regis Post will be publishing weekly excerpts from archive editions of THe Times to show how it informed its readers about the monarch's recovery from a lung illness: Tuesday, March 12 - THe King spent an hour in the grounds of Craigweil House yesterday. THere was hardly any wind, and the King enjoyed the sunshine. He left the house at 11.15am and was taken all round the grounds in a bath chair.

It is now 16 weeks since the King's illness began, and this is the first time he has been out of doors since then.

THe Queen motored from Bognor to Hove and Brighton yesterday. She visited Mrs Woodhouse in Wilbury Road, Hove, and afterwards spent some time making purchases at antique shops. THe news of her visit soon spread, and crowds assembled outside the shops to see her.

Wednesday, March 13 - Sir, May I add two more instances, to the many already recorded in your columns, of the interest in the King's illness by friends abroad?

THey are taken from the annual reports from two of our Indian women missionaries, both in Amritsar. THe first is from a Jandiala hospital: "THe servants are always ready for their Bible class on Sunday and never forget to pray for the health of our King."

ANOTHER success has shown the pie's the limit for an awardwinning Bognor Regis company.

Baker Phil Turner and his team at Turner's Pies scooped another prestigious gong at the British Pie Awards.

Judges decided that the steak and mature cheddar cheese offering was so mouth-wateringly delicious they crowned it as the champion in its class at the awards ceremony in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.

To celebrate the triumph, the business is re-introducing the tasty treat into its shops - such as the one in Hawthorn Road - and offering it to customers online with its pies in the post service.

Managing director Phil, pictured above, says he is overjoyed at the latest success for the family firm.

"We're absolutely thrilled to come away as a champion once more. To be recognised in such a way by the industry is a glowing testimony to our values.

"We strive to not only maintain our exacting standards but to push forward with new and exciting pies packed with a winning combination of flavour and goodness," he said.

Turner's Pies has won a series of awards at the championships in recent years. THis year's event took place during a hectic schedule for Phil thanks to the demands of a BBC TV documentary crew filming him and his employees as they prepare for a film to be screened in the summer.

He added: "We've been extremely busy but, by the same token, we have thrived on all of the attention.

"Also, I want to record just how exciting a period this has been so I'm currently writing a journal covering everything and will publish it as a blog on our website very soon."

THe British Pie Awards continue to grow in their 11th year as a showcase of excellence for an industry.

THis year's supreme champion was a vegan entry and Turner's is well on the way to putting a vegan pie range on sale.

OUTSTANDING performer Monty Hawkins has been picked to take part in the finale to this year's Chichester Festival.

Monty's invitation to appear in the festival concert came after he achieved first place in the festival's musical theatre category.

Felpham Community College Year 10 student Monty, pictured above, said: "I am really looking forward to the festival concert.

"I have taken part in the festival every year since I was 11 and it is always a brilliant experience. Winning first was excellent. I performed Mr Cellophane from Chicago.

"Outside of school, I am part of the Art of Dance and Fitness dance troupe and we take part in different shows each year, including performing at the Chichester showrooms and the Regis Centre."

THe Chichester Festival of Music, Dance and Speech began in 1955 to encourage and promote the performing arts for all age groups,

Monty said he enjoyment of performing was matched by another subject.

"Although I really enjoy doing musical theatre, I want to do something to do with science after my GCSEs as that's another passion of mine."

Martyn Beck, depot manager at Covers Chichester, said: "We are always happy to support local charities here at Covers.

"Our wear silly sock day was a great way for the team to do something simple and have a bit of fun, but also raise funds for a worthy cause at the same time."

All funds raised will help the trust to support people with learning disabilities and autism to live independently.

MEMBERS of Aldwick Cricket Club are back for a new innings.

THe cricketers are getting ready to play their first game at their ground after their pavilion was destroyed by fire in January, 2017.

THey will make their debut at the re-built Brooks Lane venue on April 14 against the visiting Sussex Cricket Foundation XI. To celebrate its new facility, the club is running a competition for residents to submit a photograph, painting or drawing they feel represents the local area.

THe winning submission will be featured in a mural designed by Bognor Regis area artist Chloe Dowsett. THe mural will also pay respect to some cricket club members who have passed away.

THe closing date for the competition is next Wednesday. THe winning submissions will be announced by the club next Friday ready for work to start on the mural early in April.

Entries should be made to: aldwickcc@outlook.com with a short statement about the art and the artist. Two winners will be chosen - one under 16 and one adult. Ms Dowsett and Arun's property, estates and facilities team will choose the winners.

Ian Guppy, the club's website administrator, pictured below left, said: "THis is an opportunity for the club to start afresh. We have the chance to be at the heart of the community and want to dedicate this mural to those that offered support after the fire.

"We are totally indebted to all involved who have saved our club after the fire and would welcome them all to join us on match days in the new facility that Arun District Council have provided for us and the local community."

THe cricket ground is located on an Arun-owned public recreation facility. Officers in the council's property, estates and facilities team have worked hard to identify funding to enable a new pavilion to be built.

THe club has also carried out some fundraising to rebuild the facilities they were lost, while making progress with the appointed contractors, Green Manor.

Construction group Galliford-Try, which has been working on the adjoining University of Chichester campus, is also completing refurbishment work on the club's showers and toilets as part of its contribution to the community project.

Paul Broggi, Arun's property, estates and facilities manager, said: "I have been involved (with this project) since its inception and it has been an honour to work with all involved.

"It has been a bit of a labour of love and has taken a lot of time to resolve but I am extremely proud of the result."

Clothes stores have been a constant feature New arrivals continue trend of outfitters opening and closing I THOUGHT this week I would look at clothing shops over the years. I am sure you all have your favourites, and I suspect I will leave some out.

In 1959, Kelly’s street directory had a section on outfitters and clothiers - not a title we would think of today.

Under clothiers, I found Hepworth & Son in London Road and the Longford Clothing Stores in Longford Road. And, of course, one of our longstanding shops, that of Hanford’s. Can you imagine paying 29s 6d (£1.50) for a suit, which was even guaranteed to fit? Well, this was the price that was advertised by Joscelyn Hansford in his shop in London Road in 1908.

In the 1920s, advertising for the trader included the phrase, ‘the shop for young men and men of youth'. By the 1930s, gentlemen’s suits had increased in price to 37s 6d (£1.88) with coats costing between £2 2s (£2.10)to £8 4s (£8.20) for a top of the range topcoat.

Hanford’s always appeared to remain with the current day’s fashions and again in the 1930s it was possible for 3s lld (20p) to purchase a shirt complete with an attached collar. At that time it was rare for shirts to have attached collars, because collars tended to wear out before the shirt and therefore by having collars, which detached, the shirt could be worn for longer.

Buying off ‘the peg’ is now the style that is

accepted for everyday use. THis was a family name that offered a personal service in what seems to be a bygone age. Hanford’s is a name that is still remembered with affection by its customers. However, you can still obtain their unique service in Chichester at 17 South Street.

Next, we will look at Burton’s. We should remember that at the period, between 1918 and 1939, there was massive unemployment and the time was to become known as THe Depression. THere were miners' strikes, a change of government, the Wall Street Crash and other national milestones.

THe company was established in 1903 and later they supplied the British Army with uniforms both in the first and second world wars. THey even supplied war veterans with their first suit, shirt and tie, post war, which was named THe Full Monty – not something that is equated with this term today. During the Second World War, they were known as demob suits.

At one time, 10,000 people were employed, producing over 30,000 suits a week. THe secret of his success was that he offered high-quality made to measure suits at low prices.

His slogan for many years was - 'A five guinea suit for 55 shillings'. I recently read another report regarding the arrival of this store into the High Street, which referred to Burton’s as ‘this cathedral of commerce'. Sadly, this

company closed down last month, both in Bognor Regis and other towns.

Coplestone House was at the end of Sudley Road, at the junction with the High Street. THis was a ladies clothes shop, which apparently was ‘very high class’ I have been told numerous times. You could obtain a card to shop there, but some people had the card, but could not afford to shop there because of the prices.

Town centre stores will always evoke memories and for Bognor Regis residents and visitors alike we have the names of Marks & Spencer, Littlewoods and New Look. In 1936, there must have been some consternation when a private house known as THe Lawns had its garden wiped out by the building of new buildings and stores.

THis new construction was for use by M&S and Burton’s. THe building, from a planning point of view, was completely out of keeping with the rest of London Road.

THe local press in July, 1936, announced the opening of the new ‘Super Store Marks and Spencer at No 4 London Road’. M&S advertised that in their store there was ‘nothing over 5s (25p) and also extolled the fact that 90 per centof their goods were British’.

When television advertising started in 1955 M&S resisted this medium, relying purely on reputation. Ultimately, in the mid-1990s, their first TV commercials for clothing were aired to lead to today's food and clothing advertised with the addition of national personalities to promote their goods. THe company peaked late in the 1990s and then the company shares began to drop, and boardroom changes ensued. M&S left Bognor Regis with a shock announcement to the staff only minutes before the customers arrived, in August,

1990. At the same time, it was announced they would be opening a second store in Chichester. THe people of Bognor Regis felt they had lost a friend, someone they could reply on for their needs.

Soon, the building was to be the home to another High Street store - that of Littlewoods, which to some people had been seen as not of the same standard of M&S but, nevertheless, able to serve the needs of the customer.

THe Littlewoods empire was similar to M&S as a family concern. THerefore, in 2005, there was another shock for shoppers, when it was announced that nationally the well-known institution of Littlewoods was to be sold.

For Bognor Regis, it was announced that New Look would be moving across the road from their small store to the larger building.

As a privately owned company, they had purchased 34 of the Littlewoods stores to assist with their UK expansion.

Staley’s was a store situated in the High street next to Reynolds and eventually moved into new premises at the junction of London Road and the High Street and became known as Bobby’s for many years and today is well known as the national chain of Bon Marche.

Over the years there have been many small ladies’ clothes shops and men’s outfitters including Shirley’s situated in Linden Road, alongside Woods the Drapers, Lemmon’s, William Grace, outfitters and I am sure you can remember more. While writing we have two new stores opening - Trespass, with outdoor clothing, and Yours, ladies clothing, to continue the trend. *I will be giving a talk on Bersted's past at the annual electors' meeting at 7pm next Tuesday at the Bersted Jubilee Hall in Chalcraft Lane.

City ready, set, go to welcome final PostSport leg of the Chi Corporate Challenge HUNDREDS of people are set to run round the city of Chichester's streets for one more time in 2019 as the final leg of the Corporate Challenge comes to town on Wednesday.

More than 1,000 people of all ages have already taken part in the urban running event, which sees those taking part running a series of 700 metre laps starting and finishing at the Assembly Rooms.

THe second leg of racing on March 13 saw Jonathan White (Solent MD) take the victory in a field of more than 360 runners, completing the 4,500 metre course in 13:16.

Close behind were Jacob O'Hara (Oddbins) and Jack Woods (Worthing Hares) in 13:30 and 13:35 respectively.

THe first female home was Cassie THorp (Solent MD) in 15:47 with team-mate Katie Hopkins in 16:05 edging out Ellie Farrow (Portscity - 16:10) for second spot.

In the youth races Isaac Glanfield (Downview - primary boys), Florence East (Lyndhurst - primary girls), Oliva East (Mayfield - secondary girls), Eddy Purser (Purbrook Park - Year 7 & 8 boys) and Cameron Walker-Powell (Mayville High - Year 9 & 10 boys) took the honours.

Elsewhere, Bognor Tone Zone runners have completed a trio of half marathons last weekend with events across the south of England At the Hampton Court Half Marathon Tony Holcombe was first to finish in a sterling time of 1 hour 47 minutes.

Lisa Broad, who only started running a year ago, finished her first half marathon with Mark Desmond in 2 hours 29 minutes an outstanding effort.

Along the M4 in Reading were five club members. Jessica THomson had another weekend of racing and impressed again with a time of 1 hour 35 minutes.

Adam Norgett was next across the line in 1.52. THen came the trio of Gary Gaskin, Stuart THomson and Paul Stevenson, finishing in just over 2:10.

In north Hampshire, Andy Miles and Carl Bryant - the club's very own Pinky and Perkyrounded off the weekend with an adventure of their own.

Despite a fall at mile 11 and two broken toes for Bryant the pair finished in an impressive time of 1.48 as they continue with their marathon training.

CHICHESTER RFC know that two more wins is all they need to secure their London One South status for another season.

THe Blues return to action tomorrow after a rest week, making the short trip along the A27 to play bottom side Hove (2.30pm).

With the hosts not winning a single match all season, ninth-place Chi will head into the match as red-hot favourites.

With four matches remaining of the campaign and nine points separating Blues and the bottom three, Paul Colley's side know that two more victories will guarantee their spot in the league for another season.

Chi supporters will want to see a repeat of their last performance a fortnight ago Blues ran in five tries in inflicting a 3922 defeat on Chobham, a result which condemned the visitors to relagation.

THat win means they have now won four of their last six in the league.

In Hampshire Premier, Bognor will want to keep up the pressure on the top two as they

head to Eastleigh IIs tomorrow (TBC).

THe Hampshire Avenue side - who beat Fareham Heathens 36-7 a fortnight ago - are currently third in the standings, two points behind Sandown & Shanklin.

With just three matches of the season to go, Bognor are seeking a bonus point win which will keep up the pressure on the top two.

--Chichester's Jess Breach wrapped up a record-breaking women's Six Nations as she scored two tries to in England's 80-0 demolition of Scotland last weekend.

THe result at Twickenham saw the Red Roses lift the Grand Slam - with the former Chi youngster picking up praise from all quarters for her stellar performances on the wing.

THe 21-year-old winger scored nine tries in the tournament - and has touched down an extraordinary 20 times in her seven test appearances.

THe Harlequins player also ended the competition with the highest metres made and the most line breaks.

TRAMPOLINING: Dragonflyers' Izzy Hauxwell was among five members of the Bognor-based squad to medal at NDP qualifiers series 2 held in Eastleigh.

Hauxwell's bronze medal was sealed with a stunning set routine that gained a phenomenal nine form score.

THe result was all the more impressive as the routine is barely touched in training where the focus is on national performance.

With the top three exceptionally close, Izzy is right in contention for a place in the Southern squads.

Fellow Regis School pupil Rosie budge was a mere 0.05 off gold medal.

Also coming away with silver was brother and sister duo Manon and Lucas Bailey while Daniel Boon took a bronze.

THe quintet are among a squad of 13 to qualify for the regional finals at the end of March. Many are in primary school and their first year of competition proving the club has strength in depth.

Leaders City keep winning CHICHESTER City’s march to the SCFL Premier title continues as the champions elect look set to mark half a season without defeat.

With just six matches of the season to go, the Oakland’s Park side are ten points clear at the top of the summit.

Chi made it 18 matches unbeaten with a 5-1 home victory against struggling Little Common.

THey had top scorer Scott Jones to thank for the victory after he netted a hat-trick in what was the club's fifth league win in a row.

Even though secondplace Horsham YMCA and Newhaven in third keep on winning, Chi show no sign of stopping in their run to the league crown.

Next up tomorrow is a trip across the border to play Surrey side Lingfield (3pm), a team who City have already beaten 7-0 in the reverse fixture.

A repeat of the performance would not be a surprise for the followers of Miles Rutherford and Graham Gee's side.

Chi have been ruthless in front of goal all season, scoring three or more in 14 out of a total of 32 home and away

league games.

THeir tally of 86 league goals - an average of nearly three a game - makes them the country’s fourth highest scoring team at Step Five behind Saffron Walden Town, Willand Rovers and Plymouth Parkway.

A fine example of their scoring prowess came last weekend when City overcame a spirited Common outfit.

THe hosts started the brighter and took the lead after only four minutes. A flick on from captain Conor Cody found Jones, who nodded home THe pony-tailed striker claimed his second within 60 seconds, beating the offside trap and rounding the keeper before calmly slotting home with his right foot.

Josh Clack added a third just before the break firing under the opposing keeper.

Common, who are just outside the relegation zone, got on the scoresheet after the break through Adam Smith.

But on 55 minutes Jones secured his hat-trick, lobbing the keeper with a peach of a left footed shot that curled into the top corner.

A late own goal completed the rout.

THREE young Chichester Colleges footballers are on cloud nine after gaining England honours.

Dylan Jelley, Liam Brady and LouLou Robson were all called up to play for the THree Lions Colleges squads.

Dylan and Liam both travelled to Italy, where they competed at the Roma Caput Mundi tournament in Rome, while LouLou played for the England Colleges’ women’s team in the WSL (Women’s Super League) Cup at Loughborough.

LouLou, who also plays at Chichester City, said: “I wasn’t really expecting to be selected, so it was definitely surreal and an honour to be in the England squad."

Dylan and Liam were joined on the trip to Italy by Chichester College lecturer Darin Killpartrick, who is head coach of the England Colleges Men’s team.

Dylan added: “I think being in Italy with the squad, playing and training in a different environment, was really good and to be able to play for my country was fantastic experience.

“I’ve played with and against a few of the other guys in the squad before, so it was good to be in the team with them.”

Sleeping Lions need to awaken PAGHAM'S sorry streak continues as the Lions look for just their second win in nine matches.

Tom Simmonds and Richie Hellen's side have struggled in recent weeks as the club look to shake off one of their worst run of results in recent years.

With a fortnight off until they return to action against runaway leaders Coventry United on March 31, the City boss believes his side can end the season on a high Smith said: "I urge the players to keep positivity together and the team togetherness.

"Losing three games did knock us but we

have shown that we got through it "I would not change any issues we've had in recent weeks as it has taken us that to realise that we're a great club pushing together."

After a long trip to Essex, Chi scored four goals either side of half-time to brush off the recent results with Jess Lewry and Kim Stenning starting the rout. Molly Clark hit the Essex side for four while Sara Tubby came off the bench to grab a brace.

Smith said: "I've never [lost three in a row] as a manager and some of the players have not had that either.

"We have had to find a way to deal with it psychologically. THe last couple of weeks have been difficult all through the club and to give a performance like that is outstanding."

Blake: We must improve at the back if we're to make playoffs Next Game

LEATHERHEAD (H) Tomorrow, 3pm

ROCKS first team coach Robbie Blake insists Bognor can still make the playoffs - but warns they must stop defending like "school kids".

Bognor are now ninth, five points off the top five after a 3-3 draw at fellow promotion chasers Enfield Town last weekend.

Despite eight first team players missing the trip to north London, the depleted squad took the lead twice but just could not hold on for the three points in windy conditions.

Rocks, who are struggling to find 11 fit players, rescheduled their midweek Sussex Senior Cup semi final against Brighton & Hove Albion under 23s on Tuesday.

Providing they can find a full squad, they will host tenth-place Leatherhead tomorrow (3pm) seeking their first win in a month.

Speaking to Rocks Radio after the match, Blake said: "Of course we can still do it. It will be tough with no win in five for us now.

"We are having a blip at the wrong time.

THe lads are giving tremendous effort and commitment to the club and, I'm not making excuses, but injuries have killed us."

After falling behind to a freak free kick from 35 yards out, which sailed over the head of debutant keeper Petar Durin, THeo Widdrington equalised on 14 minutes Brad Lethbridge then put Bognor in front with 15 minutes to go after the on-loan Pompey striker turned his defender well.

THe hosts got back on level terms with a

scrappy goal before a wonderful curling effort from Mason Walsh restored the Rocks lead.

THat was until a Keaton Wood clearance was adjudged to have crossed the goal-line.

Blake said: "We've got a point in the end but games are running out. THey are a decent outfit with aspirations to get in the playoffs, but still it's a disappointing result having been leading 2-1 and 3-2.

"With the way things have gone this season I was always worried they would go gung ho and route one and we are not good enough defending leads.

"We act like school kids running after the ball with it bouncing here and bouncing there.

When there's no one with real leadership to command the area, you lose out in those situations."

With keeper Dan Lincoln (hip) joining other key players like Doug Tuck, Jimmy Muitt, Calvin Davies, Gary Charman and Jimmy Wild on the treatment table, Bognor are set to hand a home debut to on loan Durin. Left back Joe Tomlinson should also be back to boost the ailing defence.

Blake said: "THat's 51 goals conceded now and I'm not sure a team conceding that amount will be in the playoffs.

He added: "THey're all important games but with no win in five, we just have to knuckle down and keep going and try and get three points."

Two in and one out for Bognor IT'S been a week of ins and out at Nyewood Lane as Bognor boss Jack Pearce rings the changes ahead of the season run in.

THe most high-profile bit of transfer news is that defender Corey Heath has left the club after nearly two years at the club.

THe former Worthing player has spent much of the last season injured. Rocks wished him the best for the future.

Coming in to the club, though, are two promising young players.

Towering teen goalkeeper Petar Durin has joined on loan from Portsmouth as cover for injured Dan Lincoln.

He made his debut in the 3-3 draw at Enfield last weekend.

Young Canadian midfielder Emmett Dunn has also been added to the ranks after impressing boss Jack Pearce and coach Robbie Blake in training, Dunn is dual-registered with Southern Combination League Premier Division leaders Chichester City.

A spokesman for Chichester City said: "Emmett is a great lad with so much potential. As always, we want to support the development of our players and give them the opportunity to step up."

I THINK it's fair to say there's a real downbeat mood around the club at the moment.

Last weekend's draw at Enfield should have really been something to celebrate.

We have quite a poor record up there and for a while it looked like we would correct that with three points.

As it was, the wind was quite strong and did play a part the game - not least their first which was scored almost from the halfway line!

I don't think anyone blamed the young keeper we have in on loan from Portsmouth as it was a tough match to come in to with a patched up team in front of him.

I didn't expect us to score three and fail to get the win, especially given the absences we have up top.

Mason Walsh stepped up and think he will be key for us moving forward. It was great to see Brad got on the scoresheet again as he needed a goal.

THeo has done great as well.

He is excellent at free kicks and he gets us going forward, which we need with Doug Tuck being out.

Aside from their opener, it's fair to say Enfield's two other goals were lucky (for them).

THe second goal saw Ed Sanders slip on the mud bath of a pitch and the third looked like the ball was cleared off the line but officials somehow said it was in.

After the draw, I think playoffs are now a tall order.

We have not won now for over a month which is not the type of form you want at this time of the season.

Worthing seem to be getting players back at the right time and I don't think Haringey, Dorking and Tonbridge can be caught at the moment.

If we get into the playoffs it will be in that fifth position.

Competition will be tight.

It will be sickening to see Worthing make it and we don't but when I look at the fixture list I just cannot predict us getting wins, given the injuries

that we have.

Leatherhead are below us but they can play good football. Jimmy Bullard was there as a manager and they have retained that approach to playing the game the right way.

I don't know why - and I do remain an eternal optimist - but I just fear for us at the moment as things are going against us.

We are just struggling for players and, given that we have seven or eight available players, it was no surprise that the match in midweek against Brighton & Hove Albion under 23s in the county cup was called off.

I can understand the frustration as this match has been rescheduled a number of times now.

It would have been a good night under the lights at the Nye Camp and I was looking forward to it.

I also feel for Seaford as we were supposed to play them earlier on in the campaign and they were kicked out of the contest as they couldn't field a side.

But given the fact we have been so accommodating to Brighton, it is good of the County FA to move the match back a few weeks.

I don't know how we will get on with the game when it comes around.

I just hope that we have enough fit players to get a team out tomorrow.

We do tend to have small squads at Bognor but I don't think it has ever been this bad down there.

I know there a few fans who would like to see some of the young players, like Josh McCormick, Liam Brady and Ollie Humphreys get some game time.

Perhaps this is time that we throw them in at the deep end and see how they get on.

Let's hope things fall into place and we somehow get the win tomorrow.
