New road attack by council ANGRY councillors in Bersted have protested against a looming traffic nightmare. Parish council members have unanimously formally agreed to object to plans to realign the A29. THey have told West Sussex County Council they believe the current proposal is flawed because it keeps the busy road passing through the residential areas of Shripney and Lidsey.

Bersted Parish Council also protested at its meeting on Tuesday about the exclusion of Lidsey, Shripney and Bognor Regis from the consultation venues. Its members complained as well that the maps on view failed to show the A29 and A259 in context. Cllr Gill Yeates, chairman of Bersted Parish Council’s planning, amenities and environment committee, said: “THe

road will continue along through Lidsey and Shripney exactly as it is except with the additional traffic from 3,500 homes from the north and the big industrial estates to the south. “THere will be a bottleneck from Lidsey through to Shripney. We only have two A roads in Bersted. One of them is causing problems now and the second one is going to be an ongoing nightmare. “It does affect everybody. We are all

road users, as well as there being huge safety issues to it. “THere was a meeting of the residents’ group in Lidsey with (county councillor) David Edwards, who is going to take up the issues for us as well as to why the road does not go where everybody thinks it should go – the Rolls-Royce roundabout. “It seems to be a repeat of what happened with the A259 with traffic from See page five
